Must be running L wheels for the winter.

I think you’ll find they’re GL wheels, the L didn’t get the fancy chrome hubcaps, just plastic centre cap and wheel nut covers. Not that I’m a Granada Anorak or owt…

From mid83 minor facelift ( economy drive) the GL got a full plastic trim, these were weird in that they didn’t have a rim , they fitted inside the wheel onto the nuts. The LX also got a white version of this trim and the L also got them later.

But this intrigued me...

Yes, from the Hachette 'Century of Cars' partwork is this unbranded Land Rover S2 SWB, which appears to be nothing more than a hacked-down version of the long running Corgi LWB casting.

IMG_20231208_0807512.thumb.jpg.cf68b58a2a44cb5f40462b0de8354e90.jpg

The incorrect sloping roof is a bit of a giveaway.

So I felt a need to procure this one and carry out a comparison at some point, to confirm or deny my suspicions.

That's interesting and now I know I wasn't the first to chop one down!

I finished another couple of Fake Corgis today...

It’s unlikely anyone remembers that I found this Corgi Whizzwheels Stingray for 50p in  a tub of made in China tat at a boot fair in May. It was missing much of the paint, the headlights, bonnet (sorry hood) and the roof panels, but I was still pleased as they are few and far between and seem to sell for quite a lot on Ebay.

IMG_6950.thumb.JPG.d716c926ada29b54d7783fbdb944acb6.JPG

Anyway I have managed to find all the bits needed to restore it for prices I was happy to pay (I’m a cheapskate).

IMG_8411.thumb.JPG.46af5284ee603860d07df2610cadaa17.JPG

Finished in Rust-Oleum Colour Shift Cosmic Blue which is really nice...

IMG_8413.thumb.JPG.2d62c364c521bf3854e82ea5529e454e.JPG

It uses a black base coat

IMG_8426.thumb.JPG.d6fd921676e73ac97d4ad8b80491b08a.JPG

Some of the Whizzwheels Stingrays have moulded in rear lights, but this has the jewels like the Golden Jacks version.

IMG_8428.thumb.JPG.0ac00f801028553bac0b8fd8ef2c4e82.JPG

I’ve also made a replica of the yellow Corgi 282 Mini Cooper in Rally Trim as shown in my 1970 Corgi catalogue...

IMG_8441.thumb.JPG.2a1bda4246dd5c714aff1bbcd25d0391.JPG

I used a white 282 which needed a few repairs and the wheels from a Juniors Jeep transplanted onto the original axles.

Aha!  A Playskool 'Power Rod', from 1984

Could I buy it?  Not got one of those...  would like to repair it...

Yup, that's what it says on the base. Don't remember it at all from my teenage days.

Would like to keep hold of it for a bit, as it's an unusual 300ZX, but I'm sure it will become available at some point.

Stumbled across this site with a selection of old trade catalogues

https://www.parrygamepreserve.com/features/catalogs/

Quite a few interesting ones among them, spent a while lusting over the Kenner M.A.S.K stuff (there were loads I was unaware of), and spotting the prototype Matchbox cars among the final production versions - MK2 Golf GTI for example

image.thumb.png.ea616738d71a3c8fdac93b62305c84be.png

There's some Schaper ones too, idly browsing looking for Five Winders and remember I have a Stomper Beetle

Schaper Stompers 4x4 Volkswagen

Can't be worth anything surely?

The silly sausage packed them in a bag rather than a box, so the already UV damaged blisters suffered in the post. Did mean I could free the '53 Chevy from its sarcophagus without feeling guilty I suppose

Not a bad rendering of a Mexibug, although I don't remember seeing one with a roof quite like that!

Hot Wheels Proton looks pretty good under the paint, no nasty casting lines or rough bits. A little bit of sanding and it'll be ready to paint in a nice shade of ........

I don't actually know yet. In my head they're usually white - looking at Wiki they had a very limited selection of colours available

The last one I worked on was a pale gold. Nice colour on it actually. It had a brown interior I think.

Got to be gold or pale metallic green?

Ours was the pale green metallic.  Willow is its name.  Interestingly* soon after buying the car we bought a pale green leather suite, and guess what that colour was called?  Willow.

Needs those old style wheels that Matchbox use as well. A Proton owner wouldn’t have had flashy alloys fitted.

This morning at Brighton Marina boot fair I only saw a few very overpriced Corgi and Vanguards so nothing there for me, however I bought some overpriced toys at the vintage market at the race course. I almost baulked at telling you what I paid as it is a bit embarrassing as I didn’t especially want any of them and I know I need to reel my addiction in a bit haha!

First at an actually not too hard to swallow £3 knocked down from £4 is this Dinky Rolls. Strange that it has suspension, but no interior.

IMG_8447.thumb.JPG.470ca622de114b95e2f9867181f002c2.JPG

Next at an exorbitant £8 knocked down from £10 is this nice little Dinky Anglia.

IMG_8445.thumb.JPG.be563f5bfefb136e2d073c84c5ad6aca.JPG

The period stickers for tax, running in etc sold it to me...

IMG_8446.thumb.JPG.a763267505970badcd58a8a8b72ca038.JPG

Lastly one I didn’t even know existed and starting at £20 but knocked down to £15 this Spot On E Type

IMG_8448.thumb.JPG.1c9cb0cb4e2c7b48e11f66866baf2baf.JPG

Looks a bit strange with the opening bonnet, but the raised details for door and boot shuts

IMG_8449.thumb.JPG.1e652a9233cc0884ebb12d968e1653a3.JPG

I think it looks clumsy compared to my original childhood Corgi

Thanks for this, the only toy fairs I've seen or been to are these as suggested by @barrett

So we'll see which of those you posted we can get to.

Midhurst isn’t too far from me. I might make more of an effort next year, assuming I’m still down this way by then.

I remember having a Spot-On E-Type from new.  It suffered at my little hands, gaining the weight of several coats of Humbrol (as so many did) and losing its bonnet, which of course is a big chunk of the car's identity.  Unsurprisingly I lost interest in it after that.  I don't even know if I still have it; if I do, it's buried in a box somewhere.

I'll have to see what I can find in terms of northern toy fairs, won't I?

@Datsuncog Amazingly, there's a Yesteryear I might want, if it's going to be in the £2 box!  The Crossley RAF tender; I think there might also have been a breakdown version, so both if possible please.

Don't think I've seen any MoY Crossleys lately, not in RAF colours or breakdown flavour anyway... but will keep a look-out.

This Guisval Crossley brewery wagon did show up earlier in the year, though.

Also, please tell me you picked up that big AA Land Rover (Corgi?) because I can rehome that too.

No, sorry - the late 90s reissue LWB SIII was a bit ropey paint-wise and the rear door was missing, so I left it.

I agree that it's maybe not the finest rendering of the E-Type... but I still reckon you weren't too badly stung for £15.

Quick roundup of stuff I’m working on at the moment. I’m struggling to find my paint jars & tins though so anything needing brush painting is sat waiting on me finding them.

So instead of doing nothing, Savoy had the window frames done in gold, as the real cars had them body colour, usually. Did the interior in its tan base colour too. Steering wheel etc need picking out in different colours and I might do a second tan tone on the seat centres.

IMG_3076.thumb.jpeg.44b2088c78eafe492407c8c78fc40cff.jpeg

Ex Bond partwork Ford Econoline stripped and given its first colour coat. It’s going two tone.

IMG_3097.thumb.jpeg.526f9d3f77bf1188c96447e38f0f61ab.jpeg

Stripped one of the Sierra’s too. Lovely looking casting these. Just needs a few areas filling and sanding.

IMG_3096.thumb.jpeg.b83bbd50b0900a651dc7c9f23350aebf.jpeg

Opened up the Jeep that came the other day too. Lovely looking model. I think these are my favourite American pickup trucks tbh. The 60’s Gladiator version is the one I like most.

This arrived last week.

1/24 magazine model and is a nice little piece.

Just need to get the Mrs to Cricut some Opel Blitz seat decals for me to finish the interior ..

Fits in nicely with some of the other Opels.
