Thought I'd enjoy my getting-older day by having a mooch around Maldon and maybe Battlesbridge later.

Tonka in a charity shop

And wonder of wonders, fresh stock in Home Bargains who are usually useless for Hot Wheels, especially in their more modern stores. I may have spent some money

I hope you saved some money to buy this collectable Lledo keep sake? It’s even got your age on it 😂

Had a delivery over the weekend which contained a few Bburago from Dan,and a nice raffle prize from a Facebook group I'm on.

Not bad for a tenner.

When I was visiting my mum yesterday I was going through so old photos. I took a photo of some of the photos using my phone.

Here’s one from the mid 80’s with my favourite car at the time beside me on the step. IIRC it was a plastic Mercedes (possibly a 190?).

That’s my dads Chevette work van behind me.

Some further requests were fulfilled over lunchtime.

This uncommon Matchbox K-179 Suzuki SJ was finally liberated from a shop shelf, just in time to celebrate its 30th birthday.

Yup, 1992 copyright - which I believe equates to a 1993 release.

I've never even seen one of these before outside of a catalogue, and they really don't seem to crop up for sale all that often anywhere. So despite somewhat unhelpful pricing fluctuations, I guess it's a case of 'find another'...

Not exactly cheap - but hopefully a sound investment for the @Noel Tidybeard collection!

This oddity was also acquired:

Seemingly one part of a set, this will be making its way over to @bunglebus. It's by Impulse, and appears to have been part of their Pinch Poppers range - a bit like Matchbox Flashbacks.

That plastic fantastic looks interesting - might be up for that, think it might be related to the Impulse/Imperial copies of Matchbox cars.

Could it belong inside this Pinch Poppers van?

Nothing much acquired for myself - I did swing past Poundstretcher in the hope of some half-price Matchbox Working Rigs, but they were all apparently long gone.

B&M had replenished their pegs with more Hot Wheels mainlines, but they seemed to be the late 2022 releases - and there was nothing new that appealed much.

Poundland had nothing of significant interest either - seems that the white Cruise Bruiser is proving surprisingly unpopular, making up the bulk of what's left there.

Some recent acquisitions

Corgi Ford HT 950 car transporter.

20230320_201703.thumb.jpg.3db91cfb606b9c219249cd9586922c21.jpg

I bought the Holmes Wrecker version at a Swapmeet in the early 1990s but the jib was missing or had been removed for something else which always annoyed me. I substituted it with one from a Britains Unimog but it was never right so I sold it about 10 years ago. I always wanted the tractor unit version.

Obviously not all the cars on it are Corgi but I tried to choose period correct ones for about 1965.

It's an awesome big toy, I forgot just now detailed the lorry is, including detailed leaf springs.

It looks great on my 50s and 60s shelf (with a rogue Range Rover just creeping in!).

20230320_201841.thumb.jpg.f76fb4cb4ba8749028c11cd1864d37a9.jpg

Also, HW 505, been after this one for many years.

20230320_202024.thumb.jpg.c8a8915eab7b1df625db26852253c9c7.jpg

Equally elusive was the Corgi 1/36 Renault 11. This one, bar a couple of chips is absolutely box fresh.

20230320_202007.thumb.jpg.ba211b98699e522fbdb1c96f473cd337.jpg

Finally, a better 18 Taxi than the one I already have. The sign was broken off but present so that's now glued back on.

Can’t say I’d ever read that, so thanks for posting it.

Im not old enough to have had these when I was a kid (unless I scored one as a hand-me-down!), I was born in the 80’s but even at my age I can really see the attraction to those old toys. They look brilliant and they work well. They must have been absolutely awesome to a child in the 60’s.

I don’t know which I prefer, Ford or Scammell, but both are definitely deserving of a place in my collection!

Actually I think I’ve got about 3 or 4 of the Ford versions now! A couple are going to receive different tractor units (the Mack will be one!) just to make a varied fleet to display my cars on!

Corgi should be pleased with themselves with those that’s for sure. Going on 60 years since the first Ford version was released and they’re still around and still so good!

Here's a thing I bought a while back but just got round to mentioning.

Came in a pretty box.

Screenshot_20230321-124717_Gallery.jpg.a9a600a12ec32b920bb1b4ee27a6ebfe.jpg

And a nice logo on the side.

Screenshot_20230321-124708_Gallery.jpg.0be88cfe34a4402ee56718a8cc217cf9.jpg

Wrapped up in brown paper!

Screenshot_20230321-124626_Gallery.jpg.5566439c5e041676d2e9eb3c50ab3de9.jpg

Despite the spun wheels and general 60's build style, the slip of paper inside is dated 1987.

Screenshot_20230321-124700_Gallery.jpg.3db1ee4f7116ca838a39261c1f42af5a.jpg

So, nicely original then.

Screenshot_20230321-124640_Gallery.jpg.25f54bfcd81d868570d0c8e6bd318b39.jpg

Should've asked the seller the backstory on this one, as he had some other similarly aged Soviet offerings but this appealed the most.

back end looks pretty nifty.

Screenshot_20230321-124547_Gallery.jpg.911864adfceea1d20e275085b9229acd.jpg

Front end is very gawky! I think this is supposed to be a Volga.

Screenshot_20230321-124523_Gallery.thumb.jpg.7738c33655fa648a583b1b3836004719.jpg

Those ever so flush headlamps reveal its party trick - a knock-off Transolite system. So there was only really one option.

Screenshot_20230321-124501_Gallery.thumb.jpg.8e611e13c1bae5b6e35cb39bbb05a83e.jpg

Acquire a Corgi P6 for comparison. I'm pretty sure I'd placed a low-ball bid on this, then bought another from @danthecapriman, thinking I'd be outbid. Which I clearly wasn't. So I've now a northern hemisphere and a southern hemisphere P6. Kicking the life goals of adulthood, right there.

Screenshot_20230321-124614_Gallery.jpg.d130ba8b4cb6f4c8a70ac09d767417fb.jpg

The system works just the same on both castings but obviously, the Rover wins hands-down on overall quality.

Screenshot_20230321-124535_Gallery.jpg.2818e740b88e6b2d157f9eacc92f769b.jpg

However, there's something just indearingly likeable about such an outdatedly constructed, simplistic design being made somewhere in the world to satisfy the needs of a restricted market. In 1987.

And to give it its dues, the Volga's paint quality is good and the lustre and shade are fantastic.

Proper happy with this one.

I only have a few cars that are correct for the set so I'd like to find at least ones that came with either the Scammell or the Ford. The search is on!

I used to buy Model Auto Review magazine back in the 1990s. They also had a shop near Leeds that I visited a couple of times. The magazine was great for keeping up with all the latest obscure diecast, resin and white metal model issues.
