The F40 was also a belter which I got for Christmas 1989 and then another from my cousin which had been a kit. I also had a couple of Hotwheels ones which are almost identical except for the addition of door glass.

There were 2 versions, a  low line and high line. After researching, it turns out that the latter had more painted detail and are worth quite a bit.

For me, Bburago 1/18s and the original Corgi Classics represent CHRISTMAS!

Does anyone else remember getting diecast for Christmas that blew their mind?

I think the Bburago starter pack was the F40,Testarossa and the black Countach although mine was a Tonka version.

I remember the ones that had a bit of wood you kept the model on. Not sure what the advantage of that was.

Same here! I must have been about 7 when I got my first, the Ferrari 250 TestaRossa. It was in our local branch of Fine Fare, of all places (Even Romer Parrish, the big toy shop in the town hadn't got hold of the 1/18 Bburagos), We passed it in the toy section, Mum and Dad must have noticed my squeals of delight as come Christmas day, there it was. It blew my little mind, that thing. The steering, the removable wheels, getting the spare wheel out and changing it, practicing changing gear (don't think the gear lever was meant to move, but it did on mine...). For the next few years,  subsequent Christmases would bring one. From memory, I had the 250 GTO, Merc 300 SL, Lancia B24 Aurelia spyder (such a pretty car, that one), the slightly smaller scale  Rolls-Royce Camargue (Loved that one), Jag E-type roadster (I liked that one too, the opening bonnet that you had to unclip like the real thing giving the wow factor). The F40 though was by far the star of the show, definitely my favourite. I had the 288 GTO, but the Polistil version. Not as nice as the Bburago IMO but the upholstered seats helped it's case!

A few years before that, I got one of those plastic multi storey garages with the wind up lift, which came with four no name diecasts in plain boxes, a Honda N600, a Mk1 Capri, a Rolls Silver Shadow and I forget the fourth. I had no idea what they were at the time, but I loved those cars. IMO the Capri and Roller were a better rendition than the Matchbox ones, and the N600 was so unusual. Only many decades later on this forum did I find out they were Zylmex.

I still get diecasts for Christmas, usually whatever Vanguards take my fancy when they come out, I buy them and they get put away. I actually think that this year is quite Vanguards heavy, blame the 45th anniversary of The Professionals TV series for that....

Piss easy to buy for, that's me...

I still have the E-type Kit that I got as a kid, loved building that. The Bburago kits offered the opportunity for a bit of modification, so things like the decals you could skip to create a roadgoing variation of something like a Peugeot 405 Raid.

I never been a fan of 1/18th due to the size, and when I was getting stuff for Christmas it was all the Dinky TV stuff like

Captain Scarlet SPV

or stuff from UFO

I have a couple of Kyosho Mini Coopers in 1/18 and a Solido that is 1/16th, but I prefer the smaller scale stuff as you can get more into the house without them being noticed.

I remember there were 2 Mercedes, an 'SSKL' and a 'SK' or something.  T

SSK and SSKL. I had these; quite neatly done, the SSK being the luxury version with the full fenders, and the SSKL being the lightweight sportster with smaller wheelarches. Both models (and cars) shared the same body assembly, those. Mine still exist, but in a very carelessly preserved state.

The 288 GTO is a particularly good example of the above as I never had that one as a kid. I picked mine up at a car boot for £3 and its in absolutely perfect condition!

I got my 288GTO the same Christmas as I got the Dream Cars book, which has a big section about the GTO. I spent ages comparing the model and car side by side. It was like having the world's best pop-up book

Those were the executive desk sets. Very much meant for grown ups. They came in two flavours, varnished mahogany and lacquered walnut. The former came in a glossy grey non-window box, the latter in a non-window box with a similar walnut print. My Mercedes 500SSK with the mahogany stand is still on display at my parents'.

Because SHEER CLASS.

Todays installment of Roadside Assistance is from Germany. The ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club) is modelled by various, mostly German, manufacturers. So here's some VWs in ADAC livery

I have a Lesney giftware ashtray on the bedside table at home so I know all about tasteful decor. 😂

I was reading your description of them thinking "I bet they were Zylmex" 😄

The blue Rolls was the one that got me started, in a job lot of Matchbox and looking very like one - but I knew it wasn't. Start of a slippery slope!

Today's mystery model is this plastic MK1 Escort that's clearly meant to represent one of the Daily Mail London to Mexico rally cars. I'm going to guess it would have had additional pieces representing the front and rear lights etc, and the external roll cage like the Corgi Junior

All very nice. Somehow more appealing to me than AA/RAC stuff.

I don't know if my very playworn ADAC Dinky bug should get restored or left alone

Almost certain I’ve got a very used and battered SPV up in the loft. Must get time to find it…

Some thing in my deep deep memory thinks these were cereal give aways, maybe Kellogs Rice Crispys. I remember me and my brother would poor the whole packet out of a fresh box of cereal just to get the toy. In the end the cereal companies had to pack the toy seperately after a few kids had problems with chocking on the toys and not noticing it in their breakfast.

A quick interwebs search found this red version

It's the red that I remember... (I thought it could possibly have been yellow).

I'm doubting myself now... although I believe I've seen these Escort's before I don't know if I'm also getting mixed up with the reflector things that fitted to your bicycle spokes!

Swines! This thread has now got me looking at 1/18 Bburago 'barn finds'. They're the last thing I need!

Giving me ideas though...

That rings a bell. It'll take years to reach a vague level of quality patina I'd have thought though.

Is it @bunglebus that is making one of those in real-time using a Porsche 356 on his garage roof or something?

Yep there's an ex- @DoctorRetro 356 coupé on top of the outhouse, I tried putting some moss and small plants in it last summer but they didn't seem to like it

I presume mine was once ADAC too, but appears to have fallen into private hands and had its livery removed
