After last week's careful and diligent search of the toyboxes revealed no remaining C30s, I wasn't really expecting much this week... but a cursory rummage resulted in me pulling out, in best Little Jack Horner stylee, an unexpected black C30...

And further delving produced another one, plus another two in gold.

Well, slap my thigh and call me Gertrude.

Dunno whether last week these had been set aside for someone who ultimately didn't come back for them, but either way - there they were.

So I'll set those aside for you, dude - and hopefully it'll give you a couple of extra black ones for yourself, plus a couple to help replenish your club chum's pilfered collection! No red ones, unfortunately.

Another grand visit to St George's of a Friday. 

I now have 4 Hong Kong buses from there and 4 UK models! Had I not been so restrained* I could probably own a lot more!

One of my favourite Matchbox Collectibles series are the Muscle Collection. The detail is pretty good, the colours are good and the proportions look right. Even the underside are well detailed with correct engine colours.

The Majorette Capri is far and away the best rendition in that scale, the corgi and the Matchbox weren’t that good.

Dunno, I think the Majorette looks a bit wonky because of how they've made the vinyl roof from plastic. But it is 100% more fun than the Corgi and Matchbox for its level of detail. It even has the correct badges on the back!

Technically I don't know about this one, but I will do in just over two weeks....

Hasegawa are probably the most interesting of the Japanese kitmakers at present, they're bringing out some great stuff. Tamiya are a bit slow, and Fujimi and Aoshima tend to rely on rather aged mouldings regularly reissued with different wheels and box artwork. But I still buy them every so often.

The A40 van comes in about 20 different versions. Here's just a few more examples.

Matchbox Dinky did one, they don’t go for much if you wanted to paint one. They were made right in the middle of the ‘collectors item’ phase so there’s loads being cleared out of old dead men’s flats. 🤣

Soma are one of many "no-name" brands that turn up from time to time. Skip lorry is quite a nice find

Another no-name, probably a Yatming copy of the ubiquitous pick up truck. Hadn't seen a camper before

One of the "H.W." Matchbox copies i hadn't previously found was #302, the Lamborghini Countach that everyone loves 

Lastly, this is a 2004 issued Hot Wheels Morris Wagon. This is the less desirable Treasure Hunt version,  there's also a similar one with Real Riders but they're £££

I can never fathom why Mattel put MG Rover on the base of these as clearly it's neither

For licensing reasons at a guess as MGR presumably owned the Morris name at that time. It apparently belongs to SAIC (via Nanjing) now.

I had forgotten about those.

The main two versions are the Dinky and Brooke Bond ones. However, there are a lot of Code 2 Matchbox and Dinky versions for shows and company promotions.

The Matchbox 'Dinky' replacement is quite different, he had thought they just resurrected the casting

Those early ‘Dinky Collection’ models were really underrated, if they’d carried on they could have easily preempted Vanguards etc.

The MGB GT is well above early Vanguards in my opinion, especially the separate chromed handbrake and gear lever. Corgi Classics completely eclipsed them though, they certainly captured my young imagination with their saloon cars of the 50s and 60s.

Such great models for the era, and it remains a collection I'd like to assemble (one day).

Really wish Matchbox had made these castings in the repro Super Kings style packaging available over here:

Obviously the 70's SK style wheels are much more toy-like, but the overall package is very, very appealing.

They were some great vehicles in the Matchbox Dinky Collection. The MGB V8 was great, the Triumph Stag, TR4. My favourite was the KG Cabrio. It filled the gap that MiniChamps had left by only making the 55-57 version. The Dinky version was teh post 57 with the larger nose grilles.

At the time I thought the Dinky Collection models were better than the Corgi Classics, the detail seemed better. What makes them so cheap now, compared with other brands is that they were made in their thousands, like early Vanguards, and hung around unsold for quite a while.

Efsi is a brand we don't see much of, this Commer interestingly taking a leaf out of Majorette's book when it comes to wheels 

He also had a selection of premium Hot Wheels that didn't seem to get any other bids,  so I snapped them up

Popped into the local charity shop this afternoon, they had a big zip-loc bag full of old cars, but wanted £20 for them. Seemed a lot but I could see a few interesting ones hiding inside, so bit the bullet. How did I do?

Despite lots of them being from the shrinking hub era, there's just one tyre missing among them

Corgi Mini, early Lesneys and late-60s King Size are well worth having.
