More Bloody Russian Shite

I'm trying not to buy cars at the moment because they take up too much bloody room and I'm buying bikes like they are going out of fashion but I snapped this little monkey up yesterday and pick it up tomorrow. One owner, 23k from new, full history of course and zero rust, runs nicely too! I'm sure the MOT will be a doddle!

Now that brigs back some memories! FATHA_RML245 had two Rivas, both red. One a 1200 and the other a 1600SLX which took 5 of us and luggage from Scotland to Scarborough.

What a bloody good buy, well done!

Wow that looks sweet especially the interior. Has the radiator spewed it's guts at some time though?

Posted

Looks good, I'm sure the MOT will be fine!

You are like a one man tat saving machine!

That is utterly superb, good to see you keeping the Ladas alive, one I spotted in Colliers Wood recently was scrapped, so this makes up for it. London does seem to be the only place with these still around, I have seen 4 in the past 10 months, more than anywhere else.

Ace! They're great fun to drive and that looks a tidy example. Top work, sir!

Posted

This would have been scrapped if I hadn't of stepped in, tidy and sweet. No radiator residue DS, that's dust, it's been garaged for 7 years

Posted

Sweet! Well saved sir! I had one just like it, G328 EKC, having taken it over fom my parents. This was when I had my first Cadillac, so rather a jolly choice in the mornings.... which one shall I take to work today? :D

Great save!

What are the plastic things above the headlights for? To change the beam setting or something?

Posted

Absolute class! I used to have just like that, it was great!

Always assumed they were clips for the lenses, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm intrigued all over again!

Torsten, good save.

What happened to that other Riva you had - the one that 'Orvillesnob' banger racer wanted?

Posted

Thats very sweet indeed. Looks like its had nice new front wings at some point too.

Can believe this was going to be scrapped - total waste if it was!

I also like the wheeltrims, very period!

Posted

Well saved it looks very nice, definately would love one of these at some point.

Do you have tat radar or something? You always manage to find these gems!!

I suspect they're probably to change the lights from RH to LH dip. My Renault 6 has something similar.

lovely save!! I think the headlight clips are for the top spec ones that had headlamp wipers?

I believe they're the stops for the optional headlamp wash/wipe. The blade is free to spin, allowing it to pivot when it hits the bump stops, to ensure it clears as much of the lens as possible.

That is a superb save. Nicely done!

Very tidy looking car and an excellent save. Now where's Andrew?

I picked it up today, first outing in 9 years (2003). Booked it in for an MOT and drove it to the Dungeon. It drove beautifully, a really peppy little car but it has the old, old style V5, taxing it won't be easy so I parked it up and cancelled the MOT, I'm sure it will sail through though.

On the way back through Wandsworth there was a massive Police check point, I didn't get a tug despite the 2003 tax disc! Same colour as a 2012 one though

Here is is after a quick hose down!

That looks lovely! Good to see the new wings/ weber carb combo being used to good effect - that's all these cars really need!

ps - You have a pm.

Posted

It's really lovely to be honest, it really flies! My favourite Lada so far!

Posted

Isn't it the 1300? That is the best engine in my opinion, but make sure the cambelt gets done, especially if it has been sitting around a while. Not that I need to tell you that.

Posted

Yup -this confirms the Doctors prognosis.

Nice save -welcome to the nut house. Catch up soon.

Posted

That looks ace, well saved! Would be a massive shame for that to get scrappped, I haven't seen one in ages, I even like the rubbish '90s wheel trims!

The dashboard reminds me of the Allegro one*
