Some ERF showman shite. Many many hours spent building this from all sorts of bits so I'm really quite proud of it.

Ling Cars has given me a headache. I did survive long enough to read this.

Nicola H reacted to drum in A warning about having a lease car, best stick to the bangers
For many, driving around in a car with the latest reg plate is very important even if it costs them half their income.
I can understand wealthy people not wanting to fork out £40k on a new bimmer or such like when they can spend small beans like 500 a month and invest that dosh elsewhere or whatever it is rich folk do. Not something I have to worry about.

Oh aye, each to their own and they must be a salesman's dream: they go back to hand their car back in and before you can say a word they're into a world of 'First MOT due, could be expensive/we'll take the old car and you can get the latest model instead' stuff.

Thanks for offering to help! I do need advice about my tape player. This tape player MUST remain! Just it needs a code. I've trawled the web in the past and drawn a blank:

Jeremy Clarksons has a collection of his favourite cars, including a Perodua Kelisa, Volvo 340, Vauxhall Vectra and FSO Polonez, all kept hermetically sealed in a luxury car storage facility near Chipping Norton.

Nicola H reacted to Sigmund Fraud in keys
Late-1990s Fiat group cars had this, you got two normal blue keys, one blue valet key and the red key. The red key can be used to drive the car but it's main use is to re-program the immobiliser ECU to work with replacement blue keys. If you didn't have it, and you lost both normal blue keys, you had to get new ECUs for engine management and immobiliser, which was £££.
I am, however, prepared to bet that someone has found a workaround during the last 15 years...

Nicola H reacted to Skizzer in Ask a Shiter
Ah, KrookLok. You hook one end over the steering wheel rim and the other over something else, like the brake pedal, handbrake or whatever. You then pull it nice and tight.
Then, if someone breaks in, they have to snap off the yellow plastic bit and fiddle with a screwdriver for about 10 seconds before they can release it and drive off.

Kind of...
You can have a 3 saloon, a 3 wagon and a 3 Grand Tourer which is a taller, heavier hatchback 3 which is only really good if you and your passengers like to wear hats.
It's about as pointless as a Golf Plus.
The 4 is available as a coupe (used to be a 3 coupe), a convertible ( used to be a 3 convertible) and a Gran Coupe which Skizzer has.
The Gran Coupe is a hatchback with four doors and a low roofline, it's aimed at business users who want a "cool" car but can't have a coupe and short Asian people who want to be driven rather than drive themselves.
The 4 series exists because people believe that an Audi A5 is a completely different car to an A4 and BMW had to respond to that.

DRLs have been proven to cut road fatalities in several countries, of course you'll get the odd knob who doesn't turn full lights on when they should though.

fordperv tell her its similar to the dozzy twats that can be taught how to pass a simple driving test & then get behind the wheel of a Chelsea tractor & intimidate everyone else on the roads.

Nicola H reacted to dollywobbler in Highways agency (big rant)
Managed motorways work well in my opinion. I'd rather drive at 40 than be stationary. Problem is, there is still often too much traffic and the system can't cope.
Traffic wombles do piss me off, as do overhead signs. Especially the ones warning of congestion that isn't actually there. Had that on the M25 the other day.

Too right. I think this article neatly sums up how we've got to this state...
Housing crisis? What housing crisis?
The UK economy has been utterly ruined through it's reliance on house prices being artificially pushed ever higher to support a massive Ponzi scheme.
Hence most young folks have difficulty seeing a situation where they'll ever be financially independent or not handing over all their hard-earned to fund a Buy To Let landlord's retirement.

When Ma bought her current car, she walked out of one showroom due to the salesman's attitude. I remember that rant well!

You’ll have been speaking to some shiny-suited mid-20’s gobshite who spends his life coaxing clueless goons into signing finance deals every couple of years and who thinks dealing with an older car, and the doley scutters who drive them, as beneath him. Can you go to the garage in person and politely ask to speak to someone who isn’t a bellend about it?

Nicola H reacted to Squire_Dawson in Driving pre 1970 cars on...
The driving test is seen by many as an obstacle to be overcome - not a learning curve and a chance to learn the Highway Code or the art of good driving. And for some of those who do pass the test, the tuition ends there.

The Ferrari/John Deere one kind of overshadows this majorly, however..
Mate of mine works in a car spares shop here, I was out with him on his delivery run a few months back and he was telling me he had some Hungarian guy come into the store with a wheel bearing gone on a 2009 Merc E clarse and asking for a genuine replacement. My mate looked it up - 9,800Kn (that's about 1,080 quid ). My mate tried to point out that he was just paying a fortune for a box and even showed him the same thing made by SKF in his catalogue for 3.400Kn. No no no, he must have the genuine part. So my mate goes and gets it, brings it back and the first thing the guy notices is, underneath all the Mercedes emblems, it says "Made in China" Then he opens the box up and written on the part itself is "SKF" My how we laughed.
