CortinaDave Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Last night I picked up possibly the bargain of the century... 55 plate Skoda Superb 1.9 TDi - tested til may and taxed til end november - 300 quid!! Just happened to be looking at gumtree when it was listed so I was straight on the phone and the bloke was only round the corner. It is howver an ex-taxi, 250k on the clock and has been a cat c at some point. Who cares tho?? bargain ! The interior is shabby as you'd expect for an ex hire car and it could do with a set of rear pads but apart from that its pretty decent! starts and drives well and is quick. It also came with half a tank of diesel. I'm not sure whether to keep it or just fire it through the auction on Thursday and make some cash to buy more interesting shite. What sort of value is in thsi? bearing in mind it is pretty tatty.
trigger Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Christ that is cheap!, It would break for more then that, Pete-M is the one to ask about prices as I think he works on a lot of Ex-hire one's of these, It is'nt nicked or anything is it?. I'd supect you could easily punt it on for anything between £1000 and £2000 depending on how pretty you make it look and Check behind the rear seat for loose change as well!
CortinaDave Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 not nicked, no - i have all the paperwork for the thing and it all checks out fine. there was £1.50 in the coin tray
Cheggers Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Christ that is cheap!, It would break for more then that, Pete-M is the one to ask about prices as I think he works on a lot of Ex-hire one's of these, It is'nt nicked or anything is it?. It's a brave man who sticks his hand down the back of a cab's rear seat...wear a glove That is definitely a good deal, almost too good!!
cort16 Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Wow that is cheap. Great cars as well. I heard it was a stalled project by VW to make a long wheelbase passat that got snapped up by Skoda when they dropped it.
stuboy Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 run it round over colder months the flog it when warmer weather
ashmicro Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Bargainacious dude! Even if it blows up in 6 weeks you can't go wrong.
Cavcraft Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 By Christ that's cheap, personally I'd give it a valet and whang it up for about £1795 ono privately and see what happens.
Father Ted Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Hells bells thats cheap.I mean what can you get for £300 these day?A curry and a few lagers and a dose of the clap & crabs down Chorlton St.
Albert Ross Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I'd bang a black leather interior in it, £200 from local breakers kind of thing, and trundle about in it.... Then flog it next year for £1300....
greengartside Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 holy shit that's cheap! Wish I could find bargains like that, sadly it seems like I'm always too late hope it serves you well for the forseeable
Alexg Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 BARGAIN!!!! I heard it was a stalled project by VW to make a long wheelbase passat that got snapped up by Skoda when they dropped it.I think they were actually based on the Chinese built LWB Passatts
MK5 Escort Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 £300 including some tax and a decent MOT. Bloody nora. Despite it’s former minicab life and the mileage, that’s a hell of a lot of car for the money. Well done! Any interior pictures...? run it round over colder months the flog it when warmer weather Seconded. Give it a damn good valet after some hard winter use and given no issues, I would be very surprised if it didn't fetch in the region of £1500. As it happens, a 55 plate ex-taxi Octavia in silver was up for sale at a local second hand place about ten miles away from me. According to the website that had done 220k and was up for '£1500ono'. It wasn't there long... A week, perhaps.
Bren Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I think this does go to prove that there are bargains out there, the scrappage scheme did'nt get rid of everything. I'd be tempted to smoke around in it for a bit, then let the idiots fight over it on fleabay. Then you can piss the winning bidder off by telling him how much you paid for it.
andrew e Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I'd ask the other cabbies who the previous keeper pissed off/crashed into/run over before fire selling the Skoda...
fiatdaft Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Aye , decent buy it does go to show that cars are cheaper up here ! For a wee lift out of it i would ebay it and would be happy with a grand upwards (trade is between what you paid and a grand) The £250 audi was a decent buy for me earlier this year, they do exist, its just being in the right place at the right time and not be afraid to put your money where your mouth is !
CortinaDave Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 I've bunged it on ebay to see how it goes. if there's a lift to be had from just flogging it on I'll let it go as I've got my eye on other shite - If theres no bites i'll run it through the winter and enjoy the mega mpg and valet it and sell in the spring. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0737794721 At the end of the day if I got a grand for it I wouldn't be grumbling.. I just hope the bloke I bought it from doesnt read the listing as no doubt he'd be jumping up and down.
ashmicro Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 See? That's how to write an eBay Motors advert. No gigantic coloured text or biographies of the designer. Mind you did show your age by putting "multichanger"!
whitevanman Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Shit a brick Dave.....hope you make a fair wedge on it, you deserve a break
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 its just being in the right place at the right time and not be afraid to put your money where your mouth is ! Not had anything that good for a while. But....I did buy a Jaguar XK150S for £100 once (1990). A mostly fucked, dismantled and rusty one, but an XK150 nonetheless. The best bit was, it was 100 yards from my house, hiding away on a farm where it had been since the early seventies. The farmer thought it was an MGA. You've never seen £100 in cash move so fast. My own VAG bargain was back in 1994, a 5 year old Jetta GTI in Tornado red. 250'000 miles and FSH - and filthy. I bought it for £350, spent 3 days tidying it up and banged it into an auction. It had had a new speedo at some point and showed 120'000 miles. "HAS THE VEHICLE COVERED OVER 100'000" MILES?" You betcha."IS THE MILEAGE WARRANTED?" Not a chance Pal. You'd clock it anyway if you knew.
AnthonyG Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 A definite bargain, my mate loves his Skodas and he is a minicabber - currently running an '07 Octavia estate but has his eye on a Superb next year, he'll probably get a year old one or a pre-reg. I would be inclined to run that one around in the winter and sell it come spring, but then you have the Primera for cold weather motoring. Why are cars cheaper in Scotland - do they show their age quicker or something?
Lankytim Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 A guy I used to know used to catch a flight up to Scotland with a mate, buy a couple of cars at auction and drive them home to Birmingham, where they would be sold for a tidy profit. Used to make quite a bit of money doing it!
whitevanman Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I find cars to be much more expensive up here, the exception possibly being the west central area( Glasgow to Bathgate) and Dumpdee, every where else they are over the top, cheapest cars I come accrosss usually are in the North east of England..
Cavcraft Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 A guy I used to know used to catch a flight up to Scotland with a mate, buy a couple of cars at auction and drive them home to Birmingham, where they would be sold for a tidy profit. Used to make quite a bit of money doing it! Lad I know did the same. Spent most of the week travelling to Scotland in his Transit recovery truck and dragging two cars back at a time. He was making seriously good money out of it too.
cort16 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I can see an Autoshite Shandy drinker express in the offing where shiter in Scotland buy tat and ship it down south for for mega £££z
CortinaDave Posted October 14, 2011 Author Posted October 14, 2011 Not to make sweeping generalistaions at all, But I've never bought a decent car in Glasgow.. they can be keenly priced, but any one I've been to see (and there's been quite a few) has been utterly shagged. So much so that now if I see an appealling ad, but the car's in Glasgow I tend not to bother. Went up to Thainstone sales last night to try and get some idea of what it may fetch if I stuck it through, but im none the wiser. a 52 plate passat tdi ex taxi with 199k on the clock and a fair amount of rust - £900 a 54 plate Superb TD - 95k, much nicer than mine but in a hideous colour with skoda superb writen along the side in 2ft letters and dire wheels - not sold at 2.5k. I'm none the wiser.
