Cheers Jon and for that I have a treat coming up for you.

Now, another question (you don't need to say it, I already know) is there a way of multi filling the bits you erase as it's taking me forever with my spazzy hands and spazzy mouse?

Never write off camera phones for decent close ups. Contrast is important, as is saturation. These were both taken on my C902 and 'fettled' in GIMP.

Saturation \ Contrast:

Contrast \ Brightness:

I learn bits of GIMP as I go along. I'm utterly useless with layers and specific filters. The controls I use are:

Contrast

Brightness

Colour Balance

Saturation

Desaturate

Colourize

Lens Distortion

Crop

That's all I use. 98% of this malarky is composition in my humble opinion. The other 2% comes from adjustments

Probably, but I'm the wrong person to ask. I wing it with GIMP. I just like twatting around with sliders. I used to infuriate the engineer at Bailrigg by wanking up the levels on his desk whilst broadcasting. Sometimes I used to take the knobs off the sliders and once I swallowed a pan pot for a £10 bet when he pissed me off.

Now I claart up pictures for fun. ITS A HARD KNOCK LIFE YO.

Agreed. If you don't spend the time framing it, looking around the scene, then no amount of GIMPing will make it look good.

My sister does some kickass photos. Her best advice to me was to take the time to look around the edges of the frame, see what you're including - it's too easy just to look at the subject in the centre.

Righto, everyone get your CTRL - hotkeys ready. I shall dump my best phone camera shots for you. These originated on my W810i and C902 chat boxes.

Splendid thread! I'm not going to brag any about my photo skillz, 'cos mostly they're mince. Living with an artist, who's pretty handy with a camera double-shames me!

What I will say is this: For about £30 or so, a small tablet and lightpen can bring a whole higher level of usability to Gimp/PS, 'cos standard mice and lappy track pads aren't very good for accuracy, on the whole. If you get hooked on photo manipulation, the small cost will open up all sorts of possibilities! The hand/eye co-ordination sometimes takes a little work, but it's worth it.

For now, I'll sit back and enjoy...

Herr W. Atanabe took this one, and it still makes me grin at the result and the palaver involved in taking it.

I know this thread isn't for posting other peoples pics, but bugger it, I made the indicators flash and drove the Jeep.

That Photo iz teh seks. Calender 2012 stuff fo' sho. Along with peter's Herald-in-the-garage. It's going to be so difficult to choose, as they're all great, certainly better than I can do, but I'll have a go, I promise.

I'll just watch this thread for now, until such time as I manage to capture something worthy!

These are a few point and click jobbies. All taken on a cheap Goodmans G-shot for various ebay ads over the years.

First up an laying down shot.I angled the wheels slightly for effect.

Next up on this one I am standing halfway up the bank of a dyke.

I use this type of photo a lot in my listings. The sun is usually over my left shoulder putting the photographed side in the shade.

And finally standing on the wall of a bridge.Again used a lot in my listings as it shows the roof.

Love the roadkill shot!

Nice work with the postbox Billy. You can increase the scale of the eraser to make it easier to re-colour larger sections. Being picky, that shot could do with some fettling around the postbox itself but it's a good effect. As is yours Trig.

Quick note on black and white images - increasing the contrast and decreasing the brightness a bit really brings out the detail.

These are very old...

This has just made me LOL: when I was a kid, there was a shovel in the boot of the car for scraping precisely that sort of thing off the road. If it wasn't too badly mashed, we would eat it. To this day, my sister and I subconsciously grade roadkill on its ability to be scraped up - we only realised what an uncommon skill this was when discussing it one day when our other halves were there and having it pointed out to us that not everyone was forced to eat roadkill by their parents...

 I'm Bunwell 213 apparently (and my house used to be the telephone exchange)

Not especially great but thought I'd try and reverse the previous theme here...

What isn't helping is it's a dull car in a dull colour anyhow so really need to whang the Cortina out of the garage and get snapping away with that instead.

*Thanks once more to DW for his excellent tips, today the enlarging of the eraser was a real help.

I love pretty much every pic WAT has posted so far. The Cat' Dozer is a cracker, as is the grim blue door.

The E46 pic looks kinda flat Billy. I can't put my finger on what it is, maybe like you say it just the flatness/greyness of the Bimmer thats doing it (or not doing it as the case may be)

I did the same today, had a play around with some of my Cholmondeley pics. This one came out alright I thought...

I think I missed a bit of of the topright hand corner on this one

Cavette's murdered out BMW and MK1's first pic - superb!

This was a nice picture, except for the plastic tape and other cars.

Enter Stalin's favourite Photoshop tool: Clone stamp! Goodbye plastic tape and other cars.

Bloody hell, what a difference in the second Imp picture, really like that.

Jon: how did you do that to my Cortina picture please? That looks fugging WIN!

Here's my latest effort, I'm quite proud of this one though the 'L' badge needs to show more red and the wheels let it down...

Really like Wat's potatochop, but that headlamp/indicator shot is also jolly pleasant.

I did another colour-drain last night.

Cheers for the posting tip on layering DW, always wanted to know how that was done. Still a little bit uncertain about doing large areas of the picture though, how the hell do you not go over?

Anyway, my first attempt at such thing, because it's almost gradiented:

Also, a bit of LD to bring the focal point into the centre:

Some great work going on here. Does anyone have any tips for getting a decent interior shot. I'm thinking of 'the Doctor' here who seems to be able to get the interior well-enough lit to not have miserable dark corners in footwells etc and makes the whole lot look nice and bright. Plus he seems to be able to get a 'bigger' shot than I can. I suppose as youre essentially inside a box theres only so much you can do to get it all in the shot, but he has got a much better knack than I have. Any suggestions? I'm talking about a bright, good-looking 'practical' photo like, not an arty one, or at least not one that looks obviously arty.

Interiors can be tricky. Especially on a day with strong sunlight - lots of nasty shadows.

This is one of my favourites. A friend's DS. I'm not happy with the fact that grass is visible - proof that you need to be very mindful of what's visible - but my technique is to get the camera to focus on the bottom of the windscreen. That's quite a light point. I then force-flash and move the camera view down slightly. That under-exposes the dark areas, which are then brought out by the flash if that makes sense?

Dunno if you remember that chap who posted up on Retro-Rides during the scrappage scheme? He got a proper studio effect by draping a shower curtain over the windows! Astonishingly successful.

I won't be forgetting those pics in a hurry, they were absolutely superb. The lad was a hero.
