Chodmolestedly Sept 21st 2025!

Like shite? Like meeting Shiters? Like difficult to pronounce castle names?

Well do I have the event for you!

Yes, last year it pissed down biblically and we were all wet to our underwear. But if we hadn’t turned up we never would have witnessed how to attach a Triumph Spitfire to an A-Frame under a gazebo in the pissing Cheshire rain. It was a life experience.

Deets:

21st September
@ Cholmondeley Castle SY14 8ET

Club name: Autoshambles.

Tickets can be booked here: https://classicshows.org/events/festival-of-1000-classic-cars-21-september-2025

And it’s probably easiest if everyone books their own tickets again like last year. One year we had over 30 cars… wonder if we can manage that again?

Booked one - three <2009 vehicles here so something, surely, will still be working by September?

There was no space in the 'book a club space' options for the club name though? Double checked but, hey, £8.06 is not a deal breaker.

Oh… I’ll check that out. I Might need to give them a call.

I remember the year @mk1_4dr and I snuck into the concourse bit with my Oxford that was 50 shades of grey. The interview guy said I was from the Auto Excreta club and asked me some questions but he would pull the mic away from me/us at all the loaded questions. I remember also sneaking into the cricket club and having a pint or two then loosing all oil pressure on the way home fun times.

Just booked a ticket, hopefully I am not being too optimistic but I think I may be able to get the Corrado ready in time.

Oooh, this is just down the road from me, count me in :)

So if we book individually, do we still get an AS stand?

Yeah, I let them know rough numbers and they allocate us a space large enough/far enough out of the way to not upset Triumph Stag owners.

I’ll start to put together a list in the usual fashion then I can update them shortly before the day with a more accurate number.

I've already booked this day off work, so I'll be there (unless I figure out why I booked this day off work months ago)

Can't do it any more, it's too much to do as a daytrip.  Anyone who remembers pushing Huggy will be glad of that!  I'd have to book two nights in a hotel somewhere convenient, and since I'm already away the following weekend for MrsR's birthday, it becomes economically unviable as well.

So, have a splendid day, chaps, and I hope it keeps fine for you!  If anyone is browsing the stalls and spots cheap Corgi/Dinky cars/vans/trucks (cheap being maximum £2) then you know where you can move them on to... ;)

And following discussions at the highest level: I'll be there with Desmond!  I've booked my ticket, and I've booked two nights in a Premier Inn.  Specifically, the PI at Crewe West, which is on the A530, only a few miles from the show.  I've also booked dinner and breakfast, so if anyone wants to convoy in with a decent scran inside them, come to the Beefeater about 0830.  There's been a bit of a message exchange behind the scenes and it would appear that I already may not be breakfasting alone.  I wonder if I might find another Omega?

It's years since I've been to Chumley!

Chumley

Is that how you say Cholmondely?

Yes it is.  You'll see all sorts of variations on here, but phonetically, Chumley is as good as it gets.

For anyone looking for cheap local hotels, there's Woodside Farm B&B in Wettenhall, from which it's a very short hop through Bunbury and onto the A49 for Cholmondeley :)

As for me... I've booked the "club exhibitor" ticket but it went through and confirmed without asking me which club I was supposed to be part of..... have I boobed somewhere? Presumably I've now got to contact them to ask how to get assigned to the correct club?

No, same here.

I've always just cruised up to the gate with ticket on phone, announced "AUTOSHAMBLES m8" and been pointed in the right direction with a grin.  Usually, that direction is away from the 'real' classic cars - but that's fine with us!

Incidentally, continuing my earlier train of thought: is anyone coming who's holding a box of diecasts for me?  Or am I holding any for someone who will be coming?  A surreptitious exchange in the Cheshire countryside, shielded by raised bootlids, might be appropriate, don't you think?

No need, I give them numbers, you just tell the fella on the gate “I’m with Autoshambles”

Except for that year they put us right next to the arena….

I don't think they'll do that again unless we register with a different name 😂

Not booked a ticket yet but I will come to this one, didn't half get some looks last year when I was the first one on the stand in the rusty Focus 💀

I've just booked my ticket. I'll probably bring the Rover but the Saxo might make an appearance as it hasn't been out much this year.

And we cheered for the beige Acclaim as Car of the Show, but (surprise, surprise!*) Les's mate's red E-type Jaaaaaag was the winner**...
