Autoshite on Wikipedia....

Hello,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Autoshite should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Autoshite .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, Ireneshih (talk) 16:16, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

  • Delete on current sources for failing to meet WP:GNG. I can find plenty of casual use of the term online, but no press coverage of "autoshite" as a movement, or even enough for a bare bones dictionary definition or one-line mention in the decrepit car article. The current references are backing up facts related to autoshite (an inspirational book existed, car production is bad for the environment and scrap metal legislation has changed), but aren't telling us anything about autoshite, so don't help to meet WP:GNG.

I can't help, I managed to get our entire work IP range banned from editing Wikipedia.

"Vandalism" apparently.

"Funny" I called it.

Love the 'Roffle' description. :)

Also...

Autoshite, with a network of participants whose skills and knowledge can easily match most main dealers, including expert technicians and mechanical, electronic and chemical engineers can offer advice, solutions and practical assistance for most situations

I'd suggest the collective skills can sometimes EXCEED most main dealers. I've yet to see an official dealership manage to recover a stranded vehicle using yellow string or a length of barbed wire (yes Krujoe, I'm looking at you) :)

Me, no idea if its the right one but I wanted to lob some citation in to try and stop them binning it off

We need more of this, and less random words in a line. Good work Womble.

Also I reccomend a citation to Mr Wobbler's online articles about autoshite car reviews, he is a notable journalist and therefore a reliable source for external citation. Even better considering he writes in the third person tense, so he distances himself from his Autoshite connections.

Guys.

Why do we never think of the most obvious first?

If there is a man, who could lend us any credibility, it would be James Ruppert, whom we even cite as the originator of the Autoshite movement.

So, if any shiter is on this there social media, contact him and ask him for help.

I bet you anything that he is fully aware that his pioneering work in the field has long since morphed into an internationally accepted ideology called Autoshite.

Besides, we can always fuck Wikipedia and prodceed with Squire Dawson's suggestion.

Them mind control nazis have already deleted an article I once wrote about EMPI, which they dismissed as covert advertising!

To quote Mr Ruppert

"Kenny I've no idea what I supposed to do, but obviously as lover of marginal cars I am happy to do whatever to Whackerpedia..."

He is the lord and I am his conveyance!  etc.etc.

Or Convenience, I always get them two mixed up.

I've updated the Wikipedia deletion discussion with the following:

*The term "Autoshite" tends not used in publications due to resistance of much mainstream printed media to the use of perceived profanities such as "shit" - or its derivative "shite". However, it should be noted that an alternative meaning for this colloquialism is "something worthless, rubbish, nonsense" - see sense 3 of the Oxford Dictionary definition of the word "shit" (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/shit=)). However, use of the term in various online communities is relatively widespread.

Hmmm..... 'self advertisment' - the route to full social cred.....

Branson (famous for crossing {sinking during..} a Blue Riband of the Atlantic.. or.. NOT getting the Lottery .. or.. being hit on the head by a football, lobbed by that Guy) has the people behind him (or.. UNDER him, if he is in his balloon).

That sinking did him no harm at all....

We should get a Transit and attempt to cross the Solent (Solent Shiters MEGGA River Trip) powered by bananas... or mebbies the Transits banana motor.... if we ensure it starts to sink[alternatively, keep it afloat long enough], and we get a supply of DERV filters rowed out to it with the Daily Mail on hand for reportage - a touching photo of the 'Auto$hite Sticker' in the rear window, supplied - that Kudos will allow a genuine entry in Wonkipaedo >> probably :?

Public domain or not, I'd be more than a little vexed if someone broadcast my contact details on a web forum...

I've edited E-C's post. We don't want to start upsetting people by posting their personal details up on here.

We should probably keep the Wiki entry more general, too... if it starts looking like we're only talking about this forum they'll probably pull the plug.

They're already trying to kick back, claiming that the term "autoshite" is a non-notable neologism.

I've added the following:

  • Keep - both the term and the concept of "Autoshite" independently exist in other languages and cultures - e.g. Russian-language blog about an old UAZ vehicle using the French transliteration "automerde" [1], French motoring blog entitled "automerde" [2]

lol... not that I'm bored or anything...

One of the Wiki editors wants to just add a comment to the "decrepit car" article to the effect that they're 'sometimes called autoshite'.

I made the following comment:

*'''Keep''' - the term "autoshite" does NOT relate to decrepit cars per se. Indeed, the cars in question might be in 'as new' condition. However, unlike the vast majority of classic cars that tend to be valuable, sporty or luxurious models or marques, "autoshite" tend to be very ordinary, everyday cars that were once everywhere but have now all but disappeared. In many cases, this means that they are far more rare than their 'classic' counterparts.

And why the fook does anyone want to be on wankopedia? just what good will it do apart from attract even more members,(facefuck was blamed last time was it not) we are always reading grumps about new threads diluting the forum and regular long term members saying fook it they have had enough.

Is it any use whatsoever to the long term viability of autoshite?

We should beat them autoshite style.

Let's make up some funny magazine and journal names and then feed them with plenty of references to 'autoshite' in the press.

I am sure you all remember the 5 page article about autoshite in the September 2006 edition of the Junkyard Herald (pages 22ff). The Old Stock Times  had an editorial "Life and death with autoshite" in the first March edition 2010 (page 2) and who will forget Didier Darkson's "Autoshite for beginners" series running in the Shitterton Daily last spring!

We'll need some international citations too, pshome... something like "Flott mit Otto unterwegs - Youngtimer durch die Klobrille betrachtet", or suchlike.
