FoTU 2025 thread - show wrap up

Not long home after a long old day. Great to meet @Schaefftand @egg and seeing the old Panda looking splendid and at a show I never managed to get it too was really lovely

some highlights for me

I think the delightful green mk1 Polo was the star of the show for me, and I was delighted the Favorit won best in Show. I remember that coming up for sale about 3 years ago on the Skoda forums as the guy was seriously going to scrap it for HGF

I also got to look at the blue Yugo I nearly bought a couple of years ago but went for my still yet to be driven Estelle instead

I'm really liking Mk3 Fiestas nowadays.  Was really tempted by the Flight I saw before I got the Carina.

Thanks for the pics @wesacosa, I see the weather was suitably unexceptional as well.

Honestly these pics are all I need because for some reason it's socially unacceptable to wank over old cars so I have to do it in the privacy of my own home.

Please can I have the 305 and the Honda City thing, thanks. X

Reading reports on the Facebook group that a couple of guys had their cars keyed at the show and and other people were trying door handles and letting themselves in to people's cars when the owners were not around

What the fuck is wrong with people.  Its bad enough people touching other peoples cars at shows or going up to them whilst swinging camping chairs but this seems to be a whole new level of cntary

A lot of it comes down to the sheer size of the event now. When it was a cute, boutique* gathering of chod in Northants 10 years ago - it was a calm, chilled affair. It’s now a full blown orgy. Think school fete becomes Glastonbury.

Put simply, the more people you have present in one place - the greater the chance of a real minority being noticed.

Horrible initial weather, the knowledge that many shots would be taken and the difficulty of getting a decent photo meant I only got a few.  IMG_1308.jpg.174140445084bc0d59a23ef39b7e1db9.jpgIMG_1294.jpg.44cb26d060d2e05731a4f3df2618a0cc.jpgIMG_1286.jpg.243a3582ee14c99f50bead74e97c94fb.jpgIMG_1285.jpg.fc3c569cc7f3d14658e1fe6370a04f03.jpgIMG_1284.jpg.e362e48234cade6bdf8f083567a81ff6.jpg

That Infiniti was one of the coolest things there! I forgot they existed until yesterday.

A close second was the minty red Volvo S70 on the swirly alloys.

I enjoyed the sheer number of FWD Volvos there as well. Which was why I bought a RWD Volvo there. IMG_3773.jpeg.f51863031ebc41b6d8ca36402093b207.jpeg

Had a great day out, the mad rush to get the Polo FOTU ready paid off. Did feel like there was a little bit of a quality/quantity ratio drop this year, but the forecast was shocking and by its very nature there's only so many of this 'genre' of car out there, so that's to be expected.

The highlight of the show was definitely the Samara Cabriolet, just an utterly ridiculous thing that I was supremely happy to see.

All the way from Belgium-land with the roof down. Hero.

Thanks for the photos of the little A3, it was cleaner when I left, but 180 miles mostly in the rain undid some of the work.

I enjoyed the show,  I do like that it attracts such a different crowd to the other events I go to which is fantastic to see as car culture can sometimes feel like a bit of an old boys club.

Real shame to hear about the keying, that's such outrageous behaviour. I did notice people leaning on, bumping and touching cars. they are parked quite close together, more like a car park than a show field of cars. I would prefer they were a bit stricter on what made the cut for the field and spread them out a bit more. I don't think they need to go mad, but a 15% reduction would be fairly easy and would remove some utterly tedious stuff, you're always going to have people moan about what should and shouldn't make the cut though. Who went to see a new-ish Caddy with a bad mk4 Golf trailer?

I only took a couple of photos as I realised I never really look at them after the day and there are much better photographers doing a much better job than I could.

I am always undecided whether I'll attend (mostly due to distance), but I'm glad I did. I need to get to a Rustival next.

I actually ended up moving my Polo as we were directed to what was definitely the end of the row, and then they shoved another car in next to me so close that neither of us could open our doors properly. Luckily a space cropped up almost opposite so I just shifted it over there.

Some common sense would have definitely prevailed.

it's very odd, they leave that big gap in the middle and don't put cars right up to the end, yet they cram them in on the first part of the field

People being obnoxious at shows isn't a new thing, quite often see folk trying doors or kids hanging off door handles etc and parents not caring.

Years ago one bloke casually poked a hole in the Doloshite's front wing and then turned to me and said "you need to restore this"!

@MrsJuular's Toledo picked up quite a lot of damage last year, scrapes down the side of the bodywork and both hubcaps. We suspect a wayward mobility scooter failing to squeeze between the cars.

I'd imagine the "keying" is similar, people squeezing past with prams, umbrellas etc.

Posted

I would bet that the keying and letting themselves in is coming from the “let’s look at the old cars and then go to the castle” lot who bring moderns, rather the other classic owners. Just a feeling.

it does look quite badly damaged for a camping chair or umbrella

Screenshot_20250727_114901_Chrome.jpg.6d5ba081714501652c746a1eefc350ae.jpg

apparently the scumbags letting themselves in to others cars were so pissed up they could barely stand and one spilled his beer all over the lovely yellow 100a in the concorse.

That was my first thought, but having seen it on person it definitely looked deliberate. The Laguna was far worse than the C6, down three panels I think.

Looked like a good show with some gorgeous cars there.

Very disappointing though to hear of the damage being done and people trying doors. That’s why I don’t do car shows though. I’ve heard of it happening before and even parts being stolen from the cars.
I don’t know why anyone feels the need to behave like that though. If nothing else it’s a show meant to be full of like minded people that show respect. Unfortunately not though. Likewise, I don’t understand why people feel it’s acceptable to go there and get pissed either. By all means, have a beer but control yourself and don’t go OTT. Show some decorum as Del Boy would say. It’s a pity a small few ruin it for people.

I did make it in the end. I'm afraid I don't know the cars/faces on here well enough to have said hello to anyone (and I'm a bit anti-social), but the handful of people I did happen to speak to were all lovely so it's sad to hear about that small minority.

I have attached a handful of photographs of various BL products which I don't think have appeared in this thread yet.IMG_5386.jpg.8cc99d0ab47afe1f36827ec317a06d44.jpgIMG_5380.jpg.42db9e3eda2bf8eb6b14c927347bef12.jpgIMG_5370.jpg.f5c0c16e1183dfbaf158b0c2a3a55a53.jpgIMG_5359.jpg.9c1ad27bd70c643a3885b899fd6cc0dc.jpg

I probably will go again next year if time permits as the variety of cars on display was fantastic.

Made the trip down to it this year too in my corolla, was a nice day out overall and the sheer amount of chod in one place is probably unbeatable as far as shows go. I went back in 2023 too and it did feel like there was a little bit less of the really interesting and rarest cars overall this time round but I guess the weather forecast could be to blame there. Highlight of the show for me was probably the other E100 Corolla liftback, one of the only ones I've seen since I got mine and I first saw it in the roads outside a bit before I actually got to the entrance. Might have been the last thing I would have expected to see appear in the rear view mirror, got to speak to the owner for a while too and he was equally shocked at seeing another one appear outside.

It'a a shame to hear about the few people ruining stuff, didn't witness most of that behaviour myself but I was parked right behind the two dutch cars that got scratched up, didn't catch any of it on camera sadly as I know saw they were asking if anyone had any leads there but the owners seemed like nice enthusiastic guys and it must be awful for them having driven all the way there just to have that happen to them.

Everyone else has already done a much better job than me taking photos so not much to spam here that hasn't already been posted.

DSC_6302-Copy.png.f374d6676b2bcb406f3a6a521345175e.png

The little group of 90s smaller executive cars I ended up in was nice company, also joined by the blue k-reg mondeo from over here on the forum just behind

DSC_5983-Copy.png.abadd09ea2c1f539588a4a8e1df0e1d9.png

This polish Solara was one of my favourites of the show, was still pretty much spotless despite the trek it had been on to get here. Generally seemed to be tons of Talbots about this year

DSC_6005-Copy.png.f615437d3de505af2f036669f33974e5.png

The colour on this is great, and didn't seem to have started dissolving yet which is impressive

DSC_6278-Copy.png.ef6bb2a1c8812ee4b76d36c3475e795b.pngDSC_6378-Copy.png.3c91ba941bb041ccf7f324d341380f98.png

Saw a silver one of these going the other direction on the trip down, this was apparently a sign of things to come as 2 then turned up at the show. I have a soft spot for 90s Japanese stuff and couldn't tell you the last time I saw one before then.

DSC_6344-Copy.png.de9429b2d32a09fb9874fb7b1f66e7c2.png

And last but not least the other Corolla liftback, not a fan of the wheels (owner said he still had the originals safe at least) but just seeing another one at all turn up is enough to make me happy here.

Not sure if I'll go to next years, Rustival is seeming like it's starting to come on top as the better overall show nowadays (especially now with some of the stories about what was going on here), was planning to do both this year anyway so will be interesting to see how the lineups compare.

I enjoyed it, don’t think the quality was quite as good as when I attended a couple years ago but still a good day out, I tend to go every couple of years just to keep it fresh.

A lovely bloke gifted me this cassette which made my day:

Didn’t take many pics as there’s just too much of interest, here’s a few I snapped at random:

And my Tipo parked next to a delightfully shabby 106, reminded me very much of the forum bike 205 Inca I used to own.

Glad to see a Senator made it to the party, thanks for that. Sorry to hear that some mindless morons were also in attendance.

Do they make any effort to sort things into a rough area, eg 'Italian', 'British' etc?

I feel like the dickheads/vandalism is the inevitable result of success, the more people in attendance the more likely it is that trouble will occur.

It's a shame because there will be people calling for CCTV/security etc and Hagerty will use that as an excuse to bump ticket price up to £50.

Well done to everyone who made the effort and keep the great pics coming, they're all going into my wank bank.

Primer grey Solara is the jester's shoes for me.

They just park you in arrivals order. There are around 2000 cars and its been plagued with congestion in the past so they just want you in. To be honest I kind of like that as you just don't know what your going to come across as you wander around

I know it shouldn’t matter, but was it some of the foreign cars that were vandalised? Not a good advert for our country if so!

That Solara is absolutely gorgeous. Fair play for bringing it all that way too.

It was some dutch cars yeah. Shame really as it was a nice show overall. Although it's gotten way too expensive

I've only been twice - a long time ago. Once in the hearse, and I can't remember the second time.

The cars are always lovely, I think, and I miss seeing things like that. I had planned on taking the Audi but got too overloaded with things to get organised in time.

Love that green Polo.

I had another fantastic day, me, @Broddersand @cortinaboy jumped in the Cavalier and raced 2 hours up the A14 with a cheeky McDonald's breakfast on the way.

We arrived at 9.30am, and pretty much drove straight in. (Yes I did stupidly queue for 30 mins for a £22 photo...)

PXL_20250727_2125264482.jpg.a310a92bb0eb561cc02a03664cef7eb5.jpg

The marshall parked us up in the Concours de l'Ordinaire area outside Grimsthorpe Castle which was nice.

And then it pissed it down, which wasn't so nice

But once it stopped things improved, this was the winner of the peoples choice and the judges and deservedly so, it was in amazing condition, it was due to be scrapped as the head gasket was gone so a young lad stepped up to save it, fixed it up and apparently even drove 1000 miles in a day for a set of headrests!
