I reckon I'll be going to this, if I can drag the LDV far enough up the A1 before all the fluids fall out.

1. egg + Mondeo (and a +1)

Me, hopefully in the Tipo, took the Forester a couple years ago.

Will be convoying down with @richbraith and @GC97, meeting at Thirsk services in the morning if any other North East shiters want to join.

I'd be interested but it's perfectly timed to coincide with the crunch at work so highly unlikely I could get away.

I wanted to go this year but I have a uni reunion (25 years since leaving) on that day. I did enjoy it a couple of years back, and wanted to go last year but circumstances dictated otherwise; I would really have dribbled from a number of orifices over the 6d Diesels hedge find 305. £40 for a car, especially if going 3-4 up is value for a day out. Don't want to spend a million pounds while you're there? Be a mingebag like me and take your own drinks and lunch.

You make of these things what you make of them. There was plenty in 2023 which piqued my interest, and plenty that didn't so I just walked past it. For me, dad and big little brother it was a great day out. I had a lovely chat with Steph from idriveaclassic, me and my bro absolutely towered over her! Been to plenty of small local car club shows in the past which have been seas of 50s-70s sports cars and the obligatory blue oval & VW crap with very few other marques represented.

Rustival is on my list to go to but this year looks like it's not possible as things currently stand; the show reports from the various YouTubers I watch it does look like a great day for a variety of cars.

I’m looking at coming along, there are still tickets available and I have some very unexceptional shite incoming. It’s also I show I’ve fancied for a while.

only thing stopping making it a very firm yes, we go on holiday for a couple of weeks on the Sunday so I need to be sure all the prep for that is going to be complete before I spend on the tickets.

No.  As I've said before, my car is so unexceptional that it's too unexceptional for the Festival of the Unexceptional.  I wouldn't be allowed in, therefore.

I'll be there, my Cavalier is apparently unexceptional enough to be selected to be in a special unexceptional area

Hoping to make it along in the Mini.  Trying to keep Dad busy so, if I can get him to mine, we will go.  It'll be a last minute decision so I'm not going to buy a ticket direct; they are alway slopping around cheap a day or two before.

Hope to see some folk there.

I will be there with Vanessa.   No doubt would someone would say that as a CD she's not unexceptional enough or something and only a 1.8L will do.

£40 for a car,

Isn't it £40 per person now?

Anyway as I've said before, I'm not paying for something where my car is (part of) the exhibit.

I get that in principle but I don't think there are too many decent free shows now. I read somewhere on some of those village/countryside show things now are 30 quid a pop for visitors and I can't imagine anything more dull!

I would recommend people go at least once though, even if you just try and hoover up a cheap/free ticket someone is flogging on here or Facebook a few days before.  Last year I think was 2000 cars ,80 odd percent of which were related to the FoTu ethos.  There's also a Smith and Sniff podcast live on stage if that's your kind of thing (they are £20 plus a ticket if you see them live elsewhere) and other stuff on stage.  I don't bother with that usually, I takes the whole day to walk around all the cars if you look at everything

Yep, I’ll be there. E36 320i. A friend may also be there in his family owned  unexceptional Porsche 924. Totally base, 12,000 miles and one keeper from new. Though it still needs some work, so we may be in the one car.

Are any of you camping in Lincolnshire on the Friday night?  I've got to collect a van load of stuff from Grimsby on the Saturday so was hoping to collect that first thing in the morning then turn up in the modern van before possibly making it to Bromyard Festival of Speed in the evening.  Not got a ticket yet but still some availability.

Fair enough.  You do you.  It'll still be full, the world will still turn and everyone will have a great time.

Can't speak for the others but I'm not sure I'll be making it. Not 100% ruled out but distance makes it a tricky one.

Ill be there in this fine steed! Its not too far from me and I havent been since my failure to arrive because of wheel bearing failure in the Mini a few years ago. I enjoyed my rolling car show as I watched everyone arrive and then leave many hours later while waiting for recovery...

I received this email today, it seems the 'concourse' part has actually gone all pebble beach and they are now judging the cars on condition rather than their back story like previous years?

It really has now drifted so far from the original premise of the show it can barely call itself the same thing.

Such a shame.

WTF? 5 points for the story and 95 for condition? That's totally at odds with the whole ethos of the event as it wasn't supposed to be a conventional concours and a scruffy car with an interesting story was always considered far more unexceptional than a restored and polished show queen.

I can't help thinking it's drifted so far away from how it started that there is an opportunity for the founders, now they no longer work for Hagerty, to create a new event in the spirit of the original FOTU they came up with in 2014. Maybe a free event that does away with the concours altogether and celebrates every unexceptional car equally.

Realistically for me this was the same as last year when the fella with the Hilux won, that felt far too 'clean' to be there, with the re-made stickers on the battery and other such items. Otherwise people will just bring a delivery mileage Metro they bought from Stone Cold Classics or the like and say 'HERE I WIN FANKS'. Agreed, the story is more paramount than a steam cleaned underside.
