Collection I didn't know would happen 20mins ago - Buying a car in Bradford

It's 2am in the morning and I received a reply from the seller of a highly questionable car in a highly questionable location. It's probably also the cheapest example I've ever seen come up for sale, has mot and apparently will make it back to Newcastle. Stay tuned for what could be one heck of a collection mission in the morning!

I sometimes think some youtuber should do a VinWiki-style appraisal of your collection. It’s gotta be at least approaching the value of something brand new, premium* and  southern German? 😃

That said, chodspeed good Sir!

I think @Schaefft must be the origin of dark matter.

Everything old and interesting (and shite) is eventually drawn into his orbit.

May your battery be de-calcified and your handbrake be operational.

I know, you can now get Porsche Taycans for under 40 grand and I'm still messing around with obviously broken chod hardly anybody wants simply because it looks cheap* and totally not like an absolute money pit. I guess my justification is that usually these cars cannot depreciate any further so therefore wcpgw?

Thanks, I think I'll need it! Naturally the handbrake on this one appears to not be functional according to the mot history. Somehow it still passed it's last mot🤷‍♂️

We are on our way! This will be another train journey, I haven't even booked my tickets yet fully expecting the seller to cancel on me or the car blowing up. The latter will probably only happen once I show up there.

I do have a spark of hope though. The car must have done around 30k miles in the last two years and it's not the only vehicle in his fleet that I'd declare as prime shite.

You might get lucky and find a 20p wedged in there.

Have you got your emergency whistle and a chocolate bar in case you get stranded in the wilderness?

I just bought the cheapest sainsburys meal deal incl. a Redbull so I should be good to go for a few hours. The train station is only 5mins on foot from the seller's storage so I can always abort!

It's of the electric type. At this point I'm fairly sure there's not a single one of these left that doesn't have a parking brake fault. And it's not another Velsatis!

Anyway, Newcastle Central should be a familiar sight for most on here at this point!

Hmm I have a feeling I might know where you are heading and to which seller but not sure which of his fleet you might be bringing home

And we are off. Quick glimpse at Newcastle's latest development of student housing for anyone curious in such things, really seems like almost everything here is now driven by demand from foreign students. Not a bad thing considering most of it was dilapidated brown sites for decades.IMG_20241215_100408.jpg.0c48cc500b40acd3df8523c147a20042.jpg

I felt like I've had to tell the seller that I might have interest/might know people who are interested in a few other of his cars just to make sure that he isn't just going to sell this one to one of the hundred other legit* local buyers who would no doubt have no problem rocking this thing as their daily until the wheels fall off.

We are now in Darlington. I have the feeling it'll compare favorably to our final destination today. Then again I've never visited today's collection location so it might be alright?

That raggy, rough edged cement pour, with reinforcing rod poking out....

Like the Gaza, in reverse = Newcastle going up / IDF taking it down 😕

Agreed, good to see some use of that post industrial *landscape.

*The leadworks area will need some decontamination 😮

🚙💨

North Yorkshire impressions.

Today's vehicle would be the newest car I've ever owned. It'll also be the most expensive to tax, unfortunately. I can't remember whether I ever felt like buying a bigger liability than today but I guess that's what breakdown cover is for.

I just came here to say that

I'm going Supercharged Range Rover Sport with the wrong wheels(painted black and with worn budget tyres) dodgy tints and a dash with more lights than my Christmas tree.

Not quite but the engine in this was certainly available in various JLR products, including the Range Rover Sport.

Arriving in Leeds soon. One short train ride from there and we'll arrive at our destination.
