Humber Bridge - a big and varied meet, old fashioned report thread.

Right then you lovely lot, I got an invite out of the blue from a forum acquaintance that there was a big meet happening literally just over the water from me in the Humber Bridge car park.  Regular meet, and was promised it was big and varied, a promise that was certainly delivered upon.  Ages of stuff attending was incredibly wide, from things like a 1930s taxi to 1990s Novas, and newer stuff than that I can't remember in this paragraph, so read on to find out.

This Trabant was perfect, wouldn't change a single thing.

I do love a Z car, and this one was exactly how I'd like one.  Ford really got the proportions and scaling right on these so they look like a small American car without looking like a cartoon.

Equally appealing for different reasons is this Marina in... a colour.  Not quite brown, not quite orange, not quite the same colour all over.  Excellent.

A Hillman estate car, not a van, an estate car.  If you look carefully you can see it has rear doors.  Remarkable and I assume ridiculously rare.

A lovely blue Montego.

Gorgeous little Volvo PV544 (or maybe a PV444, I'm not sure)

A superb Maserati Ghibli burbled in, the very first time I've ever seen one of these in person and my goodness, what a machine.  Photos do not do this justice, it had the subtle presence of an exquisitely tailored Italian suit.

Another treat was when this Talbot arrived.  I couldn't tell you more than that and sadly this is the only legible photo my camera wanted to take.

There was so much to take in for it being my first time at the event.  They had excellent marshalling, and there was food and drink to buy on site too.  Well laid out, and easy to navigate.  Here's one of my all time favourite cars, the Riley RME.

Next to it was this cheeky little ADO16 that was probably a bit spicy.  The wheels work amazingly well and it was so clean you could likely eaten your dinner off it.

 

Another treat, for me, was this Morris Oxford.  True stodge, and all the more appealing for it.

I was trying to work out what the Alvis was - I'd guessed wrongly as Aston Martin and Peerless, similar styling and era you see - and got to enjoy an handsome MG Y trundle past followed by that Citroen CX which I'd only ever seen photos off, stunning colour choice.

Going more modern was this Toyota Crown Athlete (I think) looking very nice on the wheels and ride height picked out for it.

I always love seeing these Consul Capris (okay yes, I know it's a Consul Classic, but you know what I mean), and this was a particularly pleasing colour combo.

Since we're heading into the American section, let's have something a bit like this with this glorious slab of custom niceness.  Pretty sure I've seen this in a magazine some years ago, it's another Z car so of course I'm going to like it.

Quite possibly car of the show for me was this Plymouth Fury wagon, I would have happily taken it home if I could, what a machine.

Nearby was this gargantuan 1959 Cadillac, a ridiculously proportion behemoth of a machine that is absolutely perfect in every way.

Here's a much more sensibly proportion Dodge, which was a close second for that car of the show for me, I could just imagine pottering home in this in absolute comfort.

Quite keen on this two tone Pontiac Bonneville, it ticks many boxes for me.

 

Also keen on this Ford Fairlane.

Two very different takes on performance cars here with this Triumph TR7 and Ford Model A (I think?) hot rod.

As we depart from the Land of the Free(dom Fries), we must venture forth in the weird and wonderful world of the rest of the world...  But first, here's the brightest yellow Chevy Camaro you're likely to see today and a massive military truck I don't know enough about to identify.

Not a looker the Renault 8, so it made up for it by being quite possibly the cleanest example of one of these ever.

There was a Clan Crusader!  A jolly little Toyota Hi-Ace camper, and a very orange Beetle.  Oh and a Ferrari I guess.

A super little Austin Metro was in attendance, quite a lot of stickers, including the yrmc.co.uk/ so young people are interested in old cars, don't let anyone say otherwise.  There was also the ancester of the Metro, sort of, with a lovely little Austin Seven (or maybe it's a Ruby?) nearby.

Then there's Frank.  That's the blue Triumph Acclaim here next to a bright yellow Triumph Stag.  Frank belongs to the chap that invited me and I've read about him (Frank, that is, not the owner) for years, it was great to finally meet the little monster(again, Frank) and even get to sit in the fun seat (although not for actual shenanigans this time, lest you be confused once again, Frank).

I have a serious soft spot for these old Ford Cortina estates, hits me right in the nostalgia.

These Toyota Starlets are really cute, and this one was the Glanza edition according to what it said on it, I don't know, I'm just a dumb BL fan.  What I do know is I liked this very much.

 

We then went back in time to the late 1930s for this Austin 12/4 based taxi in what looked to be almost entirely original condition.  Blue leather inside, with black coachwork and the hint of a gold coachstripe down the side.

Forward in time again to some nice foreign vehicles variously.  I have run out of brain to tell you what they are, sorry.

It was definitely a bit of a whim to attend, every time in the past that forum friend has tried to get me out to some event or other I've been too busy or too skint or too in another part of the country but this time I was at a loose end and free to womble over.  I'm really glad I did, it felt a lot like an old RetroRides meet, very chill atmosphere, weird mix of classics, modifieds, ancients, and miscellany, and a decent age range with attendees too.  Excellent marshall work, as previously mentioned, and just a generally well put together feeling to the whole event.

 

What's amazing is it's absolutely free to attend (unless like me you have to cross the river and pay the toll, of course) and you don't normally expect this level of competence for this size of event without some sort of fee.

 

I wasn't even in the weirdest car there because a Bond Bug turned up.

I reckon the Princess did well and who knows, since there was someone doing video on the entrance and exit I might even turn up in some videos somewhere.  Definitely gave me that personal recharge and boost I've needed as lately my life has been pretty chaotic and a little bit miserable, this cheered me right up.

That K-reg Montego must be ex RAF or fleet?

I couldn't say for certain on that one.  Montego sales did overlap with R8 sales and while estates were normally the late reg stuff, some saloons were on late plates too.  Rover had all these cars just laying about waiting to be sold, I daresay a late reg Montego was a very cheap way into a new car.

The Alvis is a very rare Graber bodied TC108G from 1958.

Thanks for the thread. A great turn out, a few cars I recognise from other gatherings. It is one of those meets I hope I could make some time but I'm almost always too late finishing work, given I'm an hour or so drive away. One day perhaps.

That marina is a regular at events all around Lincolnshire, it was at stickney this weekend just gone and I’ve also seen it at Hemswell. Owner gets about in it. Nice original car. I noticed the Ipswich registration.

Funny thing is, at the show I wondered if it might have been an Australian import just from the general condition and colour.  It looks much more baked than rotten, so I wasn't entirely sure it was an original UK car.  Good to know it's as well loved as it looks to be, not pristine, just loved and repaired as needed.

One of the things I missed getting a photo of or a proper look at, really neat little car.  There was that blue Fiat 900T van there too, I forget the username of who it was that restored it, but it was great to see that in person and it really looked good.
