With all this shit about Ford and their new Capri I was wondering what other long defunct vehicles I've owned in the past would be worthy of a 2024 resurrection? 

I really hope this happens as a two stroke.

Maybe my Mk 1 Triumph Vitesse - you couldn't make the transverse leaf suspension any worse than it was. Keep the straight six, add fuel injection, lighten up the panels/body and plonk in some decent seats.
Could sell loads - maybe even more than just one dozen. Two maybe?

Not to reboot? My 88" Ser2a Land Rover - that's been rebooted several times since and the latest aberration about sums up reboots really

I’ve always thought BMW should have rebooted the Triumph brand. I assume they probably owned it when they owned Rover.

In my mind it would have been a similar brand to Skoda in the VAG universe, using BMW and Mini platforms. A mini based Toledo and 1 series based Dolomite would have been pretty cool. To me. Nobody would have bought them except giffers of course.

They were never building that in a hundred years. Look how slim the a pillars are, the size of the glass area. Far too practical and attractive for a modern 🤣

Haven’t owned, but if someone was to make something very similar to a Renner Espace mk1 again, I’d be on it like a tramp on hot hand cut chips. With ketchup.

I was going to say an Imp, but also a Triumph Acclaim. A basic little saloon with good reliability and much more wafty comfort than you could reasonably expect from a 1.3 family car.

I see what you mean, it seems very hard to buy a seven seater that isn't an SUV these days. 

Possibly van based things are available, I dunno. Is there some sort of electric VW (Buzz?) that has 7 seats?

On similar lines, I'd like to see a modern take on the original Mitsubishi Space Wagon. A proper 7-seater that looks like and isn't much bigger than a normal estate and drives like a car rather than a van or SUV. The Space Wagon was great (we had three of them when I was growing up) but such a thing no longer seems to exist.

That's the sort of thing I'm talking about but it's not available any more, discontinued in favour of (surprise surprise) more SUVs. Even the Vauxhall Zafira nowadays is a Vivaro minibus and nothing like the original compact MPV.

Small to medium in size, beautifully proportioned, perfectly engineered, fast but not sporty, stylish but not showy, gentle and relaxing but capable of motorways… that was the market segment for Saab and Lancia, maybe Rover at times, too.

I think everything I've ever owned essentially has either modern models of the same name/type in production (tenuously in the case of the Fiat, there is sort of a modern successor to the SX4 on which it was based!).

Not really old, but I think Skoda made a mistake not making a Mk2 Yeti. I'd go out and buy a 2024 version quite happily and I suspect I wouldn't be the only one. Or for the same idea but going back about 40 years, a Rancho.

Modern reboot of a Saxo could be interesting, surely possible on the 208/Corsa platform?

Controversially, I wonder what a modern take on a 'retro'-styled vehicle like a PT Cruiser or Figaro would look like - I'm picturing something like an Ora for the latter.

They needed to put the Rocketman concept into production. Genuinely small and had some clever features to help negate it's small size with modern legislation

Manufacturers:Just start producing quadricycles.
There is a singular lack of anything compact, light, cheap to run and buy that is capable of doing a sensible speed to keep up with traffic.

Citroen Ami - yeah, sensible commuter, just make one that does 50 or 60 please.

Yes but we buy petrol in litres but say our car does 40 mpg, and when it comes to tyres we have the width in mm but the diameter in inches.  Mixed units everywhere in U.K.

Alma Sprint

Alma Sprint is the name of the restomod inspired by the Alfasud Sprint 6C - ClubAlfa.it

The history of the Alfasud is a fascinating one like few others in the wide panorama of historic Alfa Romeo models. A condition intercepted by the Portuguese of Alma, to whom we owe this Alma Sprint deeply inspired by a  vehicle perhaps little known but fascinating like few others: the well-known Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint 6C, born with the desire to bring Alfasud to Group B rallies.


We are talking about a 1983 project reasoned first of all on two specimens revised by Autodelta which had equipped these two models with the 2.5-liter V6 Busso of the GTV6 by mounting it instead of the rear sofa. Then there were new bumpers, a new rear spoiler and the use of wider wheel arches. In addition, rear-wheel drive and a five-speed gearbox with a coupled differential were introduced. The Alfasud Sprint 6C, in two examples, however, remained only a prototype since the desire to drive it in Group B rallies remained a mirage.


A project that has therefore remained on stand-by until today, until this Alma Sprint that follows the ideas of the past but transforms them into today's needs.

The two prototypes of the Alfasud Sprint 6C were built by Autodelta in collaboration with Zagato; today, however, Alma Sprint has the task of introducing a more detailed approach, useful for making significant changes to the project that was. In fact, the Portuguese company has perfected the surfaces of the bodywork by thinking about fenders with a more muscular appearance, useful to ensure a seamless transition between the body panels. In the same way, the front and rear bumpers have also undergone targeted interventions to manage a design that now allows them to merge with the design of the revised fenders, taking inspiration from iconic models responding to the name of Lancia 037 and Maserati Shamal. The result available on this Alma Sprint is to have obtained a unique bodywork that makes extensive use of composite materials, as well as a front characterized by the latest generation Hella LED headlights integrated into a billet aluminum housing. The rear-view mirrors are redesigned Vitaloni units that blend perfectly with the side profile of the car.


Inside the cockpit of the Alma Sprint, the focus has been on improvements in terms of design and ergonomics, focusing on a style that harks back to that of the rally sports cars of the Eighties, but focusing on improved refinement and safety.


The driving position has been revised thanks to the adoption of new seats in accordance with the repositioning of the steering wheel. The latter, designed by Zagato, is combined with a custom-made aluminum gear selector and further characterizes the interior which is completely upholstered in Alcantara and corduroy fabric. Most of the parts that can be touched are now offered in aluminum, while the seat belts are represented by 4-point Sabelt elements, while there is also a Bluetooth speaker that guarantees the necessary connectivity needs of today. The Alma Sprint will be produced in just 20 units, starting at €50,000 plus the donor car needed for the transformation.


Adopts a revised four-cylinder Boxer
The Alma Sprint abandons the mid-rear-engined layout of the Alfasud Sprint 6C that inspired it. Instead, a redesigned variant of Alfa Romeo's 1.8-liter four-cylinder boxer engine is now used. This now includes a redesigned cylinder head, the use of forged pistons, the adoption of revised camshafts and a custom valve train with Dell'Orto intake horn carburettors; The exhaust system is made of stainless steel with a revised lubrication circuit. In the road-spec variant, the engine delivers 160 horsepower, which can however become equal to 220 horsepower available. Power is transmitted to the front axle via a five-speed manual gearbox with Torsen LSD limited-slip differential. The front and rear suspensions have been redesigned, also taking advantage of the availability of a wider track and the adoption of adjustable shock absorbers with revised geometry. The brakes have been revised by taking advantage of the adoption of larger ventilated discs and components usually used in motor racing.


A set of features that, combined with a total weight of 880 kilograms, guarantee exceptional driving qualities combined with the striking design of this Alma Sprint. Each of the 20 pieces produced can be fully customized based on the specific preferences of each customer, drawing from a wide range of options. Alma also aims to help, those who wish, to find the perfect donor car to bring the project to life. The first deliveries are scheduled for the third quarter of 2025, remembering that each Alma Sprint is carefully made by hand.
