I do like the slight forward leaning 'stance' of these cars, a nice simple design that still works.

Just reading about the Poissy engine, and didn't know there was a version (not in this car) of only 777cc for tax reasons.

It’s weird that door has rotten like that, yet the rest of it just hasn’t. All the bits you’d expect to be crispy like the sills and pinch welded joins are perfect. I wonder why that one door got it so bad? Blocked up drain holes??

Fantastic little car though and the colour really suits it I think.
Stay safe on them there roads Bollwell!👍

I haven't tried to explore its bursting points

Possibly not a wise plan on this journey I'd guess...

Also, 1118cc engines are a smaller bore than the larger engine, meaning LLLLAAARRGGEE clamping surfaces for the head gaskets, and a very tough bottom end for the engine size.  IIRC the largest size of this engine (1592cc?) has essentially the same crankshaft sizing and fabrication method, meaning the 1118 is hugely under-stressed.

Right, must crack on

Angouleme can’t be a million miles adrift from your route to Paulmy, you don’t fancy a detour to track down the supplying dealers premises?

Though it’ll probably be derelict anyway. Seems to be some talk of the place here: https://forum-auto.caradisiac.com/topic/374126-enseignes-et-façades-de-vieux-garages/page/190/

One negative I've always found about travelling in Europe is the lack of savoury pies and pastries of the kind sold by Ginsters and others here. They just don't seem to exist there. Gap in the market perhaps?

Honestly sitting in my home office this is giving me THE URGE to just ‘go driving’. Preferably in France, with a pastis at the end.

Great progress though, well done. Simca looks a honey.

I reckon those pics are AI-generated. Bollo's route has really been made up of a procession of manky industrial estates and out-of-town shopping centres like 97% of tat collection trips in the UK.

I found a 'Revue Technique' workshop manual for the Simca 1100  range this morning.

It's a bit 'sortie de la garage' but still usable.

If it all goes pear shaped I can photograph the relevant section.

446 Route de Bordeaux is now a retail shed site alas.

Ere, @Mr_Bo11ox I reckon you should tag one of these onto the end of your collection.  Conveniently there'll be a support crew* on Saturday for you

This thread has given me bad ideas about going to Germany to bring back some old Opel or similar. Off to browse mobile.de for a bit.

Wonder if the Simca acquired by Autoshite management @Mr H Sceptre  is still about?

Stopped in Ax-les-thermes for a beer and a plate of interesting-sounding 'tagliatelle with local cows cheese and chistorra' "what's Chistorra???' 'It's a type of sausage that comes in small pieces' 'Ok I'm in'
