SEATMad's gone mad... 1988 Mitsubishi Colt GLX 1500

I've kept this one quite...

So recently I lost all sensibility and decided to spontaneously spend a considerable about of money on a new shitebox that I don't necessarily however it was too tempting to pass up. Do I need it? No. Should I have bought it? probably not. Is my Mrs foaming with me now? Of course she is. Do I have any idea what I'm going to do with it? No Am I happy? Absolutely!

I actually bought a couple of weeks back however due to the logistics of my job (I'm currently serving in the RAF so I bounce around the place quite a lot and I'm only ever home on the weekends), organizing either collection or delivery was quite troublesome to say the least. In the end I opted to just simply get it towed to my home address and today it got delivered and was waiting for me when I got home (I was terribly excited).

Anyway, I've had a chance to give it a proper look over and well, it's not bad at all. Some background, its 1 owner from new and comes with a stack of paperwork. Tax discs dating back to 1995 and service history dating back to when it was brand new and 96,000 miles from new all accounted for. There are a couple of issues, small things like it'll need a front window regulator (clue! its got electric front windows) and I believe she's running a bit lean. Other than that it's in really good nick. Rust work has been carried out and is solid underneath and runs decently enough when up to speed, not bad at all.

So in true AS style, before I upload any photos (I refuse to use the sellers photos), Try to take a guess as to what I've wasted my hard earned readies on. Clues:

. Hatchback

. From the 80's

. Was featured on the eBay tat thread and wasn't posted my myself

. NOT A SEAT! (unfortunately)

That's all ya getting 😉 You win a high five if you guess correctly. Thanks for reading.

As a relatively recent joiner to the forum to probably won't have seen the "forum bike" Colt that a good few of us owned previously.

Yes I'm aware of this one! I believe @dollywobbler had it for a while, saw it on Hubnut.

Yes! This seemed like such a good deal. Sold by a man who owned it for 35 years, wasn't it?

All credit to you who posted it originally! Cheers! yeah the bloke bought it new and I ended up getting it rather cheap so a very good deal all round

Great motor @SEATMad! I love 80s Japanese stuff. Ooh electric windows, how swish. Can't wait for the thread.

Thank you mate! I'm the same I cant resist old Jap crap myself. My first job with this is to try to source a new window regulator as the drivers side one is buggered, other than that though she runs as sweet as a nut. Genuinely could daily it. This is what I'll probably bring to Shitefest and other meets if I can make them.

Very well played SEATMad! I have not seen one in ages. I would like to ask a SEAT-appropriate question, if I may. The indicator and wiper switches look quite unusual, how do you operate them on the Colt?

My sister in law had one back in the nineties, a three speed auto.

We borrowed it once, when I was between cars briefly, to go from Reading to Glasgow and back. It covered that no problem at all and didn’t miss a beat. Rot got it in the end but was sold to the owner of the Mitsubishi dealer, who said he was going to restore it. No idea whether that happened or not and can’t remember the reg. It was a dark blue metallic 5 door, C reg.

Well bought!
