If you look on AROnline you’ll see a load of my pictures of abandoned MGs i found when I lived there back in about 2012

Wonder what happened with all of them in the end

What is it with Wolverhampton Council, do they make all their money from taxi badges? Every single fucking Uber I ever get in seems to have a Wolverhampton licence.

EML made a short appearance tonight.

In other news the stop/start decided to work for an hour this evening.

Puncture number two this afternoon.

Undertray, well the remains of it, has been removed. The rear had started to come adrift and by the end of the shift the MG had started to resemble a 1:1 Scalextric car with it rubbing on the tarmac. With it removed I've noticed the front suspension making a grinding noise river speed bumps. As the front end is basically Rover 75 I suppose this is the right place to ask if this is a common fault with those as well? Also, there's a rattle from the front end that doesn't sound like a drop link which I'll investigate when I have the time. I took the opportunity to do a fluids check as the washer bottle was empty. The gas struts for the bonnet are piss poor meaning I had to prop the bonnet up with my head. Well below the quality of those fitted to a 1978 Princess. I also encountered some patchy fog the other day which had me pondering over how to turn the fog lamps on. After pulling over I discovered that the driver has to turn the light switch from auto to dipped to be able to pull the switch out to turn them on.

87 year old OAP was delighted to have a ride in an MG last night. He was made up to see the MG threshold plate when he got in and told me that his late wife always said that he should buy an MG as his name is Maurice Green. He spent the journey telling me about buying an Austin 12 in Perth, Scotland and driving it back to Wirral in deep snow.

Yes, I know that the first six days haven't been trouble free, but every issue so far isn't MG6 specific and could have happened if I was driving a Mondeo or Insignia. Zero "renter's remorse" so far.

An interesting question is if this manages to live until its compulsory 10 year retirement date would anyone here be prepared to buy it?

Depends on how cheap it is.  I quite fancy trying one of these but I wouldn't want to pay a lot for one.

Seconded.

Craptain's Log. Stardate 10/1/24. 1500 miles completed. Stop/Start has decided to work more often. Fuel economy is now 44.1mpg. Occasional EML and TSC moment that seems to cure itself over the course of a few miles without having to be plugged in.

By now there should be a few things about it that would be niggling me but so far so good. The seat belt chime can be timed out in a minute for night shifts and doesn't reactivate when I get in or out of the car as long as I leave it running.

I'm not going to say that this is the perfect private hire car because that vehicle doesn't exist. Also, I've yet to have to do a headlamp bulb change or replace a fuse. Other than the aforementioned parts availability it's very difficult to find a negative aspect to working the MG6 as a taxi.

So where do we go from here?

My E7 is due for inspection and tomorrow it'll be getting the spanner treatment before being presented on either Friday or Monday. If it dies on its arse requiring £2500 spending on it then I'll keep the MG. If it only needs minor work then the MG will go back next week. The thing is I'm loathed to hand the E7 back as I've paid a lot more than I owe on it. Obviously, I do totally understand that you lot want the E7 to get mauled as that means that I'll be hanging onto the MG6 for anything up to another 18 months therefore running it to 200,000 miles before roffling it to a lucky punter on AS.

In the interests of full disclosure though I really should tell you all that Claim_Garage_2 will be coming into possession of a 220,000 mile, ex PH 64 plate Passat estate that's potentially got another 10 months taxi life left so if the shit hits the fan then jumping into that may be an option.

Sorry, I'm a bit hard of thinking. What is an E7?

And how could it possibly out-taxi an MG6?

Purpose built cab based on the peugeot expert. It out-taxis an MG6 because it is an actual taxi

I sincerely hope the E7 comes back to you. Just the fact it has separate driver and passenger compartments sets it above a private hire car. Cant put a price on safety. The amount of times i had absolute roasters sitting beside me when I worked private hire doesnt even bear thinking now. And think of all the wheelchair and airport work you will miss out on

Due to the sliding doors fitted to the E7, I have to hop out and face the public to let them in anyway.

True, i do that with the transit procab as well. Mostly out of courtesy, and also to keep the circulation going. Wont need to soon though....watch this space.

Ps....first proper cab i drove was an E7, back in 2009. It was brand new at the time, and was an absolute dream to drive

Sell the E7 to @LightBulbFun and keep the giffer-pleasing MG6 on taxi duties 🤓

would be fun confusing all the London Taxi drivers with it LOL dont think I have ever seen an E7 down here, for I guess the obvious reason they aint compliant with London's Black cab requirements etc

however I think I would have the exact same insurance woes as I get with an LTI sadly...

I did try a couple E7's they where treated just like LTI's in that they are hackney carriages through and through

so it was like if you tried putting a double decker bus through go compare or such, as they are not cars you just get told "No" or "vehicle not found"

so although I have not gone out of my way to ring up a specialist and ask, I imagine for an E7 I would need decommissioned taxi insurance, (which no one seems to be offering anymore)

unless @JJ0063 I am mistaken here and its PEBKAC?

An E7 is a factory/purpose built taxi so yes is still a decommissioned taxi.

A Peugeot Expert MPV that has been licensed then decommissioned is a Peugeot Expert MPV

Even best case scenario you bought just an Expert, it’s still a big 2.0 engined 7 seater vehicle for someone with 0 experience/no claims etc

Why do you keep putting yourself through this looking at unrealistic cars when there’s a million and one insurable, obtainable cars out there you could get tomorrow?

I don’t know how to say it without sounding rude (not my intention) but it feels like you enjoy the task of trying to achieve the unachievable

I dare say in 12 months time we’ll still be going round in circles, whereas if you went and got a little 1.4 estate car with a hoist to get a scooter in the back, you’d be on the road building NCB up, getting actual road experience and putting yourself in a much better position to try and insure something a bit more obscure

I know you’ll never listen but until that happens the answers will always remain the same

I’ve had to decline people in their 50s who have had a normal car for 20 years trying to insure taxis before, it won’t just immediately become easy once you hit X age or X license length

I've been in one with power side doors, maybe Vito.

because I dithered and the Renault 4 sold *sad face*

I mean you make a fair point I could of gotten a hoist fitted to that... although saying that I'd still have the same problem as I would with rear loading WAV's if that someone parks up behind you, you end up in a bit of a pickle...

(dont forgot, I live in Central London, so cunts-a-plenty)

@LightBulbFun needs one of those 1970s FX4s that were sold as sort of a halfarsed limousine, I assume they were registered as regular cars.

Or track down Prince Philip’s, I doubt he had trouble insuring his.

You’re creating a problem that you don’t actually know exists yet though?

Majority of disabled spaces give extra room for loading/unloading..

In your head you’ve decided that you simply cannot have a rear load because every time you park, someone’s going to be 6 inches up your arse.

In reality, let’s say you buy a car of some description - where on a day to day regular basis are you planning on going? I just can’t see it being a problem you can’t live with. Bearing in mind you currently have no car at all, what’s the harm in buying an ‘An’ car and seeing how things go?

If you bought an estate with a hoist or a set of ally ramps and after 6 months it was that much of a problem that every time you park somewhere someone’s parked up your arse, then yes sell/roffle/whatever and move to something else

Currently you’re limiting yourself due to a problem that in the real world probably doesn’t actually exist in a way that’s anything more than an occasional inconvenience
