My wife’s seat Leon is extremely scabby and she’s complaining about how awful it looks so we need a new car .

After the bmw 320si that is hard to source parts for and mechanically fragile we need something reliable and easy to work on .

So with that I find myself on a train at arse o clock 6.30 am with a book. Odb2 reader . A bar of chocolate and a tissue for tears

I should  be there by 11. hopefully

So it's

1. For the wife

2. Less scabby than a modern Leon

3. OBD2

4. 4.5hrs away on trains

5. Sourced by Cort

this puts us in the central that-there-england-belt. Keighley, Manchester, Bury, Bradford etc because only nutters by cars in Northern Scotland.

For the wife means we're potentially looking at a four-figure budget here so it's something big.

OBD2 means you're confident and it has brand name tyres. Also means it's a modern.

sourced by Cort means it's unnecessarily complex and probably niche. Lexus?

Why does anyone bother with trains?

my train from Edinburgh has just been cancelled and I’ve had to buy new tickets on a different route that puts me an hour behind .

The Edinburgh train experience never disappoints.

The last car pickup I did on a train I didn’t even get out of Glasgow. I’m heading in your direction too hopefully this one doesn’t get cancelled .

He's been through Glasgow and now Edinburgh.  That suggests to me somewhere along the East Coast route.  Yorkshire, Humberside (a Humber is too much to hope for), Lincolnshire maybe (and again, a Lincoln....).

Oooh, a @cort16 collection thread ...

That's Saturday sorted!

Sorry to hear re the train cancellation, but happy to wait the hour for MOAR excitement

It’s east coast but not that far south .
The car isn’t being purchased from the forum .

Plus side is I’m now going to have time in Edinburgh for an over priced bacon roll and coffee .

I was being slightly disingenuous  when I said this car was for the wife . She will get a new car out of this deal but not the one I’m collecting .

At least you'll get a refund, don't forget to do delay repay.

My guess is.... a Citroen C6.

But not @Schaefft, it would seem.  @wuvvum?  How fast are the trains on that route?

To be fair, the train is usually the quickest way to get to Edinburgh (little over 2h) or London (under 4h). The problem mostly are idiots on the tracks or storm damage.

Watching with interest, my guess is an Astra of some sort. Similar size to a Leon and they’re not too bad compared with other Vauxhalls

was going to go here for breakfast but it was £5.50 for a cup of coffee and their only breakfast option was a vegetarian roll and sausage . HARD PASS

Lots of people at Waverley station booked on my original train like

I bet you're proving your addiction to BMWs by buying a Z3

I love a railway station pigeon . It’s a majestic beast roaming the marble floors of the train station full of confidence .

Highly evolved to be able to waddle at 11mph to evade pished folk trying to cuddle them at 1am and being able to perform high speed smash and grabs on McDonald’s chip containers .

A quick  flash of its holographic feathers and a gentle whisper in the wind and your chips have gone .

Good luck ! I hope it all goes well - and that it`s a Ford V8 Pilot you`re collecting (!)

Pigeon oh pigeon why is your nest a midden? Is it because you work so hard collecting chips or is it just because you’re a lazy shit ?

I’m on a train again . I got confused by the fact all the carriages have the same seat numbers . I don’t get out much .

Quite difficult to get a picture of an empty platform . If there’s people on it they naturally  think you’re trying to get a picture of their arse  or the funny hat they’re wearing  rather than an auto shite collection update .

Ah, so we're back down to a 3 figure purchase price.

I'm gonna say an Indian built Duster with significant rust and a replacement engine

4 figure purchase price . This kind of quality doesn’t come for free.
