My RRC shifts OK with a 2t weight and 189bhp (yeah, right) V8, so you should be able to get her to pick up her skirts. lesapandre 1

I've never driven one (sadly) but even with the weight it's got to pull I reckon it should be able to get a shift on. Contemporary road tests don't show it as being a hot-rod but don't give the impression of it being sluggish either, so it maybe needs a bit of work. It's cooler than Polar Bear piss. I like the number plates too. eddyramrod, lesapandre and Weird Car 1 1 1
artdjones Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 It might be worth topping up the carburettor dashpots with some 20/50, as they are what provide the mixture enrichment when the accelerator is given a poke. The equivalent of the accelerator pump on a fixed jet carb. Top up to within ½" of the top of the hollow piston rod 83C and tooSavvy 2
83C Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Bear in mind that the L-series might be enormous, but it really isn’t very powerful in N/A form. It should be ‘adequate’ - what that meant in reality was somewhere around 200bhp in a very lazy state of tune, and that in a car that is very heavy and lumbered with a 3-speed auto. As others have said though, worth giving it some love. Filters, spark plugs, check the dashpots, usual stuff. Glad you got in there before I did though, I would have been very tempted!

Top up to within ½" of the top of the hollow piston rod This, and make sure the carbs are synced properly, as if one is opening significantly earlier or further than the other it will vastly reduce the available power and make the engine feel far more flat. Doing that on my Rover made a night and day difference. These aren't massively powerful engines for their size as they just weren't tuned that way, and are very under stressed. Nevertheless they should have plenty of torque to be more than capable of making the car pick up it's heels and get a shift on more quickly than you might expect just looking at the raw figures. If everything is working properly it definitely shouldn't feel like you're lacking power. lesapandre 1

I don't think I've ever seen one of those in the metal. I had a T reg 206 ‘L’ that didn’t have central locking, it had a boot lock. One of the first things I did to it was fit an eBay special central locking kit. It did have a bsi though as I had problems with the indicators and found there was no indicator relay to check, it was all in the body computer. Weird Car and Sigmund Fraud 1 1

Must admit, i thought it went ok- 0-60 is supposed to be about 11 secs from contemporary road tests and it didn’t feel much off that. IIRC i put a set of plugs with the spares, i was so blown away by the plug lead change i didn’t bother with them at the time. Weird Car and lesapandre 1 1
Weird Car Posted April 8, 2024 Author Posted April 8, 2024 So operation tidy the Rolie Polie has started, first with these new plates, not a huge thing but I was growing increasingly annoyed with how faded the old ones were, not slagging off HMC at all as they still looked infinitely better than the black and silver ones but I still couldn’t stand the faded look I got them from here if anyone’s interested, https://www.classicplatesonline.co.uk/plates.asp?gad_source=1 they do great repro plates, they even do repros of the original raised digit plates but at 120 odd pounds I couldn’t justify it at the moment so these pressed plates will have to do, next port of call is to give it a really good detail and polish as looking at the paint whilst it’s not the best finish it should come up really good, that’s tomorrows job LightBulbFun, Vantman, CGSB and 10 others 13

lesapandre Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 How did they get it off?! I thought they were really firmly attached underneath? Cut it? Lucky no damage? Really 'old money' folk take the mascots off anyway and put their own on. 'Old Bill' was popular with military types. Thought valuable now. Find something cheap and cheerful of your own to put back? If you are leaving it out I'd remove the hubcaps too. Sorry to hear about this. Total idiots. The market for these nicked RR badges has to be miniscule - bet it turns up somewhere. Weird Car Posted April 20, 2024 Author Posted April 20, 2024 We here’s progress so far, I contacted a friend with a printer who was happy to print me one using that link kindly provide by @N Dentressangle obviously not perfect but I’m more than happy with it for the time being, we’ve just got to figure out if the print material used can stand up to chrome dipping or if spray paint is the way forward, I’ve also ordered one of these from this eBay seller, just a replica but again it doesn’t bother too much as it still looks the part, it’s going to be a while before it shows up though Shep Shepherd, RoadworkUK, lesapandre and 3 others 6

richardmorris Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Thought of the rolls earlier watching the latest YouTube from Iain Tyrrell. He was showing how the rolls Royce electric windows worked. The reason the motors have so many wires is that they have a solenoid driven brake that basically locks any movement. The_Equalizer and mercedade 2
Weird Car Posted April 26, 2024 Author Posted April 26, 2024 So I had a long drive up to Leeds today to a fantastic Rolls and Bentley breakers yard to collect a door card for the Shad, the MG ZT handled this 500 mile trip thankfully with no drama after finally diagnosing the dodgy crank sensor, it was honestly so cool just wondering around this yard, the door card was £100 including all the fitting and fixtures unfortunately non of the cars had a blue interior so I settled for creamy yellow I’m going to have a go at dying it blue before fitting it though!
