Begrudge doing it but 97k on the original is roulette and eventually selling the car people will want it done anyway.

All that’s left then service and windscreen.. then I really am done with it…

 

Looking at a grand finished basically. Still good going IMHO.

Ordering a timing belt and water pump kit, what are the brands to go for these days? I can get a Borg & Beck kit about £13 cheaper than INA / Dayco / Gates

Literally to echo @Bren. Dayco/INA kits are top quality and OE. I had the XF done last week or so at a specialist and they showed me the one that came out, Dayco branded and didn’t even look like it had any wear, it was the original. Another Dayco kit went in.

Dayco was what I’d originally priced up but then saw B&B, I know they used to be a decent brand but looks like the names been sold and it’s now a trading name of ‘Firstline’ which look hit and miss. For the sake of £13 I’ll get the Dayco!

He messaged me asking if he’d left an extendable wheel wrench in it so I replied saying yeah, he then asked if I’d had any joy fixing it so I said a combination of driveshafts and rear tyres has fixed it… didn’t want him to wrap the wheel wrench round my head and take the Volvo back 😂

Got to be a grand profit in it surely? Parker’s guide assumes 120k and suggested something like £2400-£3400 private sale, albeit it’s not going to know the bodywork condition

 

Really enjoyed this project and I think it’ll stay with us at least a few months. It’s ideal and I don’t think you’d get much better for what it owes me

Currently trying to 'grease the wheels' so to speak on a potential purchase/kollekshun kaper.... fuck me this isn't easy.

Getting to the place is a pain enough, but insurance etc is SUCH a fucking ballache.

To such an extent, i'll need to take some tools with me and remove a part of the car, because it's non standard, and to insure with that mod (it's a £60 part that will take 10 minutes to remove) saves me a theoretical, wait for it.... SEVEN THOUSAND POUNDS.

And people insist insurance isn't a con? 🤣

Very very likely it’ll be staying at least the rest of the year, we all like a change but this seems to be ticking every box - I just need to sort the air con, my gut feeling is it’s the compressor which isn’t a hard job to change, no harder than an alternator but I’ll need to get the gas removed, change it then take it to be regassed. It’s bottom of the list for now.

Random bit of luck today… the only bit of trim missing from the Volvo is the passenger side rear side skirt end cap, they tend to sell for £40 odd on eBay.

Went to drop the pugs off at the in laws this morning and the father in law said he’s cleared the shed out and there’s a pile of bits he thinks are mine if I want any of it before he goes to the tip…

Spot a side skirt I had come spare with my old S40 I owned years ago and there’s only a bloody end cap on it! Albeit gunmetal grey but I can soon spray it, hasn’t got to be perfect.

Rubbed down and a coat of Black sapphire paint, bit orange peely but for Halfords rattle cans and my terrible prep work it’s presentable enough. Will let the lacquer harden for a couple of days then stick it on. Another cheap fix! Only cost me £8 for a can of the correct colour paint, had primer and the trim has been in the shed since 2017…

With this weather the lacquer went off so quick that I managed to get it fitted tonight. I’m going to try and get it sitting better again in the week but the clips/screws are all in the right places yet the trim doesn’t sit very nice against the skirt, however the drivers side looks the same so I’m going to whip them both off and refit.

It’s a decent colour match albeit very shiny and clean compared to the rest of the car. 
 

Found a rear door in colour for for £60 and I’m really tempted as it’s the worst panel on the car but trying not to get carried away.

Oil & filter, piss easy

Air filter, piss easy 

Fuel filter, one of the torx bolts that hold the cartridge onto the top was so tight it snapped my torx bit then rounded so had to drill it out then you have to prime it manually and could I fuck find my hand primer since moving house, eventually found one of those 12v oil transfer pumps so managed to feed that in and manually fill the new filter with that.

Pollen filter - what a twat of a job, fuse board is in the way, unhook it then the bracket is in the way, unbolt the bracket and could just about get it in. Took shitting ages.

Oh well, it’s done, just timing belt and water pump left!

Popped to show Charlie tonight but no-one was about, drives so nice now it’s bobble free and serviced. Cambelt roulette is stopping me enjoying it 100% yet but it’s a brilliant car.

It’s very likely the way I’m going to go to be honest. It works so well for the dogs, Mrs JJ likes driving it, it’s cheap to run/tax/insure and owes me what, a grand completed

Still got a massive hankering for another campervan so maybe the 335 will be replaced with one and this will stay as a cheap daily

Got a great bargain last night, genuine Volvo dog guard and a stupidly rare centre partition for £25…. I did have to drive to Milton Keynes for them but well worth it.

 

Now the pugs can have a side and the lab can have a side, no fighting and everyone’s safe. 
 

The dog guard bit behind the seats is really neat too, it’s on gas struts so you can just flip it up when not in use.

Route the coolant from the heater matrix through that and you've somewhere to dry yer towels too!!

Been using this virtually every day and it’s been great. Was supposed to go in tomorrow for timing belt & water pump but my mechanic rang and asked to move it to next week as he had a job overrun.

Quick scrub up today and because I had a rattle can of the correct colour paint from the side skirt trim I decided to touch up a load of marks, definite ten footer still but it’s looking so good now. Just need to sort that bloody boot lid dent - don’t know whether to try one of those inflatable bag things behind it or just replace the boot.
