I recently wrote an article on police Marinas for the Club mag. Unearthed quite a few pictures, apologies some have undoubtedly appeared before.

I like that. Even with the povo-plastic wheeltrims of doom. Wonder why Mercs have always been so rare in UK forces?

My friend owns this ex-met Jag. Previous owner sadly replaced the basic interior with leather out of a plebian one

Cost. Mercedes probably wouldn't have offered a fleet discount like all the "British" manufacturers.

Not just cost, also perceived cost.Even these days with nasty little A Classes etc Mercedes are seen as expensive upmarket cars, similar situation to @bunglebus’s mate’s S Type which when new had a painted plywood dash replacing the walnut even though it cost more money, but gave the impression of not being too posh.

Theres always been plenty of Vitos and Sprinters used by Forces around the Country and you see a lot of unmarked A, C and E Classes in more specialist and Security Service roles around London and in convoys on the Motorway.

Sprinters are very popular as personnel carriers. Saw 13 of them from various non-local forces yesterday that I guess were heading to Bletchley Park for that big AI conference thing.

I wonder if Mercedes cars might find a police role now BMW have pulled out. Thames Valley seem to have switched to Volvo and VAG though.

A month or so ago I was walking up the hill from the village, heard a siren behind me and looked round, it was a nonmetallic grey XC60 with blues in the windscreen going warp speed up the hill.

Usually such a sight is followed by marked cars and/or other emergency vehicles. No such luck.

Yes Bletchley is full of Police from all over today, lots of road closures too.
