What do you collect?

In amongst a group of hard-core car nuts, the thought sprung to my head. What do we all collect? Car-related or not!Me, I have a pretty large collection of ocean liner memorabilia, from postcards and photos to things such as a window from the gymnasium of the Titanic's sister ship, Olympic. I also have the engineering blueprints of the Queen Mary, from the Queen Mary (brought back in 67 by one of her engineers), as well as china, silverware and other such items from ships.I also collect old postcards and deal in them too - and have about 40,000 at home from the 1890s to the 1960s. I used to collect bubble car models, but I'm alright now ...and I also collect books, especially about cars and ships. My wife's dad used to collect army vehicles from World War Two.

The only thing i guess i collect is car magazines, I have a nice sizeable collection going on now, Got a bit carried away at last years Beaulieu Autojumble as one chap was selling them for £1 each, Going back this May to buy some more!.I use to collect car brochures as well for years but ended up selling them all on ebay for a good profit, I wish i kept them now though, Still have a few of them left but nowhere near as many as i did.

I used to get them from phoneboxes - I remember getting some good ones quite a few times in succession from a box in Dumfries - including two Open Golf cards (both £10 ones IIRC) - think I sold them both for about £75 each - but I also used to love the £20 cards - for years I never paid for a phonecall as I used to get them half used in boxes in Glasgow.I still have the 1993 Messerschmitt one, a Bond Bug one and another Messerschmitt one somewhere.

Not much outside of the motoring world but we did have five fishtanks at one point. Now down to three: one tropical, one coldwater and my marine tank. I suppose I've collected (and lost) fish along the way, and the marine one is quite hard to keep on top of plus it's a minefield trying to find fish which get on with the one I currently have.

cars!!!6 of the buggers at the moment and all but 1 work and I love em all - can't help it - compulsive heap buying!

I hate collecting stuff (except cars and tools), if I could I would own nothing but a tiny flat with some living essentials, and a garage beneath! I have moved house a few times in the pas and have used those occasions to get rid of most of the ridiculous shite I had accumulated during the previous few years.

Yeah, I don't collect much. Used to collect model cars, but then I could legally buy real ones, and the appeal of scaled down versions soon dissapated. S'pose you could say I collect musical instruments seeing as I have 3 bass guitars, two normal guitars, a reed organ (lounge) an upright piano (kitchen), a didgerydoo, some bongos, and a (really crap) theramin. That's just an accident though, not actual collecting (the piano was free, the reed organ £15 on Ebay).

Cameras. I have a small collection recently thinned out to only models I can buy film for. Unfortunately, I don't have a film scanner, so all my pictures come out uneven and streaky.

Regardless, here's a picture taken with a 75 year old Box Brownie, on expired film, developed at the wrong temperature in tired developer and then scanned using a flatbed and a Halford's inspection lamp for light source.

I have no need to actually collect things as I seem to accumulate them (especially books, magazines and models) in vast quantities without any apparent effort on my part. 8) And not forgetting a small collection of lawnmowers :)

Models, as you know. T shirts, I have around 50 of them. And books. I love car books.

Yep, I've used house moves to get rid of a lot of my shit. Down to quite an acceptable level of relatively essential stuff - records/CDs/books/clothes/2 cats.

I used to collect women but one of them found out so that was the end of that :D

I used to collect car brochures, and 1960s Dinkys/Corgis. Have got stacks of old brochures, which I must get round to sorting out and selling the ones that don't interest me anymore.I also have an interest in old radios, but haven't bought anything else for ages - the only thing I'm looking for at the moment is pre 1990 issues of 'Car' and 'Car and Driver'.

Oh and CDs, I think I have 110 that I actually like now. I know some of you have alot more, but I think thats a large enough number!

Interesting.

Do you know if 10mm ciine film cartridges are available in decent camera shops? I recently aquired a 10mm cine camera as I've always wanted one (love that 60s feel to the 10mm films), or would flea bay be my best bet?

9.5mm with the centre sprocket holes? I think you might have trouble getting hold of that. Photographic film is still well represented (although shrinking all the time, especially in shops) but cine film is nowhere near as abundant.

Try this bloke Mr H Sceptre, he appears to still supply 8mm film, so he might know where to get some 9.5mm for youhttp://www.leescameras.demon.co.uk/

Retro handheld games for me. The ones I wanted as a kid. And a few others too.

Camera equipment although I have started selling it off as some lenses make expensive ornaments at an average of £300 a pop, I have a modern digital set-up but find it hard to part with old mechanical gear I've owned for years. Like my cars I prefered older stuff, stuff that was perfectly capable of being used everyday and was high quality but old.I have a few old manual SLRs like Olympus OM1/2s and Nikons F3/FE/FM and a couple of Fujicas and a load of great lenses that were once well out of my reach but now are affordable, some are becoming classic in their own right.Other than that I don't really have the spare cash to spunk on much else, I'd love a set of Cornishware crockery but they seem to go for loads on ebay.

Oh wow, had the Grandstand Invaders From Space game - very addictive (though the first time I got to 1000 I thought I had busted it)
