Wheel trims - The Good, The Bad and the downright Shocking

I'm not talking about eBay special vomit inducing wheel trim sets, I'm talking Factory fit or Dealer special wheel trims.

You don't see as many cars on steels and trims nowadays, is it a fashion thing?

So, what's your favourite? What really irritates you? What's the ugliest?

Thread inspired by the Maestro currently for sale, so let's start there! I actually love these Austin/Rover trims.

Ladas always seemed to have some horrendous ones, but I suspect often they were just whatever the dealers had lying around!

I like the faux-lattice-alloys ones on my Rover, although they're an utter sod to keep clean and have demonstrated a tendency to launch themselves into ditches at speed.

Cant find a pic of the utterly miserable Lancia Delta 2 trims I saw once, so this will do.  Exec car with these things...

Around 1995 I bought a March 85 last-of-the-Mk2s 2.3LX 5-speed with these on it, my car was exact same colour.  Didn't like them at the time as they looked 'Orioney' (new word invented™) so they were binned and I repainted the steelies.

I thought the trims made it look like a giffer's tow-car.

Surprisingly enough, previous owner was a giffer who towed a caravan.

Car was a good-un though, kept it for several years and it gained a 2.8 from a minty original unrestored (but crashed) Capri 2.8 Special fed by a 38DGAS Weber.  185/70 14s were sufficient.

And my all time favourites.

One wheel, two trim options and both fantastic.

Is that a wheel trim fixed to an alloy?

Yep. Both styles are the same underneath.

Goodness me. I knew about the top ones, but not the bottom ones. Every day/schoolday. Cheers!

So years ago, say about 1998, some arse hole pinched the wheel trims of my Dad's Rover 820. Which looked like this:

Same colour, same style (although his was an E) , the wheel trims never suited the car.

My dad though wanted wheel trims to protect the wheels. So he went to a local scrap yard after trims to the fit the car. I think he tried for Rover ones, they either didn't have them or whatever, but he came out with a set of Peugeot wheel trims for a 405. Like this

And do you know what? It worked. I always thought the Peugeot trims suited the Rover far more than the Rover trims.

But then, the Peugeot trims are pure sex really.

I know my username may suggest some bias, but one of my fave trim designs are the plughole looking ones you got on a Mk1 Mondeo GLX

Back in the 70s you could get fake Porsche wheel trims to put on your Beetle. I'll leave you to decide if they're good or gash

Searching for them has revealed you could get Empi, Sprintstar, all sorts!

Edited For Accuracy? Or it was…..

I’ve just noticed the edit. That’s it, I’m off the booze for this evening.
