eddyramrod Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Six-way fuel distribution, hmmm... late 70s/early 80s, I'm thinking, going off the seatbelt buckle and the headlight. Something PRV maybe? Justwatching 1

eddyramrod Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Front windows electric, rears optional.... so we're in Volvo territory. I can't see it being an Audi or BMW, but maybe a Merc? Headlight is wrong for a Jag or Granada. Could be Japanese, I suppose. Justwatching 1

Justwatching Posted May 27, 2021 Author Posted May 27, 2021 After all that build up, I don't actually have any good pictures of it yet. I just rolled it into the garage and disconnected the battery. More will come in due course once tinkering begins. I'll probably sort the Ford out first though. I've wanted a DeLorean since I was a teenager. It's my dream car, so this is a really big deal for me. Six-cylinder, eddyramrod, spike60 and 35 others 38

Justwatching Posted May 31, 2021 Author Posted May 31, 2021 Used sleepers as a makeshift ramp for the LTD. Quite happy with it, actually. I drained the engine and transmission oil with a view to removing both sump pans. Thankyou Ford for not putting a drain plug in the transmission sump. It's not like the transmission is supposed to be serviced or anything... And here's the mess that ensued. Unfortunately the gasket is fossilised, and worse still, glued to the transmission. If they must use adhesive, why not stick it to the part that comes off?! Getting all the gasket/adhesive off is a PITA. I got fed up and left it about 50% complete in the end. Gave the DeLorean a quick clean off. Glass cleaner if you're wondering. LightBulbFun, mercedade, Coprolalia and 11 others 14
Justwatching Posted June 6, 2021 Author Posted June 6, 2021 I removed the rest of the stuck-on pan gasket, replaced the transmission filter and fluid. And not a moment too soon - it was rather brown. Also replaced the power steering fluid and painted some of the chassis with waxoyl while I waited for things to drain. I planned to use a jack under the transmission bellhousing to lift the engine and get clearance to remove the engine sump pan, but this didn't work for reasons I'm still not sure of (and yes, I unbolted the engine mounts!). I gave up and decided it can go to a garage to have the rear main seal, oil pick-up screen and sump gasket changed. Now the DeLorean gets a turn on the sleepers. Sorry, didn't get a picture before putting the cover on. One has to keep the lookie-loos at bay. The transmission doesn't shift properly (holds on gears too long and and can be quite erratic in its shifting). My suspicion sits with transmission's governor computer, pictured below. I've ruled out simpler things such as low fluid, throttle microswitch, system charge voltage and the cable that goes from the throttle spool to the governor computer. I didn't get started, just eyed up the job today. Glad I spotted this fuel line. We'll add that to the list. Isopon, Scruffy Bodger, mercedade and 2 others 5
horriblemercedes Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 I recently saw a Delorean for the first time ever and you're from near me so I'm guessing it was you! Let me know if you ever need a hand with anything. I need an excuse to properly see that LTD and DMC! eddyramrod 1

I very much hope that I am able to lick see that in person someday! and am looking forward to your further posts on it (I have always been a massive fan of the DMC-12 and even if it wasn't for BTTF I would still be, I mean just look at it!) Justwatching Posted June 26, 2021 Author Posted June 26, 2021 Governor computer now removed from the transmission and will be sent off to be rebuilt. I replaced the transmission filter and the pan is cleaned up and ready for reinstallation with a new gasket, sump washer and magnet. The chassis was rust proofed by the factory using an epoxy resin type paint. It works well, until it gets old, then it cracks and separates from the metal. Everything is nice and solid on mine, but there are a few spots where the epoxy has failed and surface rust has formed, the worst of which is shown below. I chipped off anything loose with a screw driver then used a Dremel on the surface rust. Cleaned down with sugar soap spray and a coat of Hammerite afterward. Justwatching Posted July 3, 2021 Author Posted July 3, 2021 Headlining was a mismatched set of light and dark grey. Should be dark grey for an '81 car with black interior. Luckily the car came with the dark grey panels, so all I needed to do was fit them. Now all correct colour and matching. JMotor, Isopon, rainagain and 7 others 10
