The grumpy thread

Pete, no offence and I can imagine that dealing with Wolves council must be a pain but when you work in a job dealing with people who don't work for the same company it can sometimes lead to a sense of humour fail. I can take a small amount if banter or 'funny' comments but when I've had it all day from people my patience goes and I flip at them or make them wait longer.

Its shit when you have to wait round but sadly sometimes you just gave to bite your lip.

Oh aye WVM is bang on the money, I've got mates in the council and my missus works for the public sector and if anyone is stupid enough to believe they're all lazy fuckers then it just shows the level of ignorance they have.

To be honest, it's the customer facing folks I have more sympathy with. They can't piss about so much because ranty people will complain about them in no time at all. These are the front line folk having to deal with massive workloads while managers sun themselves on golf courses and congratulate each other on another 'efficiency' saving. Which was just a blanket ban on some aspect of customer service because it cost an extra £50 a year or something.

Maybe "lazy" is the wrong word.

Just listing some personal experiences, what word would you use to describe people who, in my local area:

* Take 2 months to process an application for an on-street parking permit.

* Clamp a car without an on-street parking permit every second day.

* Take 8-9 months to process a request for a rates review on a business premises.

* Threaten you with court and bailiffs when you're a month or two overdue with the rates payment.

* Ban you from parking your car on the side of the road with a 'for sale' sign on it. Do that and your car will be towed and you'll be charged for storage...

* Spend 17 grand on carpets for the mayor's office.

* Build a library on a flood plain and lose 8 million quid's worth of books in a flood before the fucking library even opens.

* At a time when town centre businesses are struggling, increase their pay parking charges and hire in third party traffic wardens (who are given targets) due to hiring freezes.

I could go on and on. In my personal experience in dealing with councils the only time they'll do something fast is if it involves them taking money off you. You're fucked if you want them to do something in a hurry. In fact, if they managed their own money as badly as they managed the public purse they'd be sleeping in cardboard boxes for fucking sure.

This is my jaundiced view. Your mileage may vary etc.

Sod the problems of this country. I've just watched Shame, a British film which for some reason is set in America, with British actors trying to sound American. Described by the Guardian as "icily compulsive." The Observer called it "gripping and intense." The Telegraph called it " an unqualifiedmasterwork." Yes, they got so excited that they forgot a space.

The Daily Mail said "it isn’t as well-written, entertaining or socially aware as it pretends to be." I'm annoyed that I agree. However...

Dollywobbler says "what a load of arty bollocks. A film with no plot, just fancy camera work. An utter waste of Carey Mulligan. I'd rather stare at a Vauxhall Vectra for four hours."

I hate shit films. They feel like a criminal waste of my time. What I hate even more is shit films that critics have decided must be good. MUST BE GOOD!

A load of council plebs could do better.:lol:

Hey DW, if you hate shit films, don't watch this like I did last night. It does have some nice views of a '70s motorway service station, but that was the highlight!

Shameis the Steve McQueen one right? That's annoying if it's bad as I thought Hunger was fantastic. Then again, we probably have quite different taste...

Grump? Feeling I have to defend myself against four-letter abuse just for agreeing with someone on here.

For anyone who might be the slightest bit interested, what I was particularly agreeing with was the last paragraph of Pete-M's rant.

I worked for my local council, many years ago, at the lowest possible hourly-paid level. Even from there I could see the waste above me. My experiences in the private sector before and since have shown that any business that expands beyond a critical point is heading the same way. I'm not saying that everyone at the bottom of the heap is an angel; nor that everyone above is a waste of space. Just that there are enough examples to form a stereotype in each case.

Oh I know where that Barkas is. Stasi prison Hoenshonhausen, Berlin. Worth a visit, it's free, donations only.

This van has 5 tiny cubicles where there is just enough room to sit. People would be handcuffed and put in there in darkness, then driven around for a few hours so they thought they had gone to a prison in another town.

Councils fail

I found this book in the pub the other night, written in 2004 it's basically a similar rant about Eire's recent political failings re corrution, crap infrastructure and the property bubble, which, er, well we know what happened with the latter. Oh and although you can't really see in the stock image the car he's driving is a BX :D

Czech Republic is mega corrupt. If you do anything through official channels there are mountains of forms to fill in and rubber stamps you have to get from various offices staffed by grumpy old women who act like what you have asked for is a huge inconvenience to them. I think it's a hangover from the old days.

Because of this, you can basically get anything you want if you throw some cash in the right direction.

You've just described Cyprus with startling accuracy.

I know it's called the Grumpy thread, but yes, +1.

Further to recent discussions on this thread, some bad news. Ben Elton's back :(

Oh shit, please tell me it's not true.

x2 This is starting to bore the shit out of me now.

x a million. Another stupid f*cking thread full of ill informed, pointless trolling.

I'll bring the thread back to something less controversial...

eBay fucktards. I put my 'saved from scrap' C5 in for an MOT last week and was surprised that it only failed on windscreen washers. Surprised that there was nothing else wrong and surprised because the washers worked fine the last time I drove it. A quick check confirmed that the pump itself had given up- something that's happened on every car I've had this century. I decided to be lazy and order one on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 1040904689

When it arrived it turned out to be the wrong one altogether. Annoying, but easily solved by a trip to the motor factor- which I should have done in the first place. I wasn't going to bother about the wrong one but I sent them a message explaining that it was wrong and could I return it for a refund because I'd had to buy one locally?

Fucktard- Are you sure it's wrong? What number is on the box?

Me- Yes I'm sure, here is a picture of the one you sent me beside the one that came out of my car. The number on the box doesn't even match the number on the delivery note

Fucktard2- It matches the picture in the listing (which it does, I thought it was a generic picture). This one should fit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350581035410

Me- I bought it based on the compatibility information in your listing. The alternative you've given is a twin outlet pump but it doesn't matter because I've already had to buy one elsewhere. Can I have my money back please?

Normally I just shrug my shoulders when I get something wrong on eBay but they've annoyed me now. I'll report them if they try and argue any more.

So "ill-informed" now means what you see and hear first hand, well I obviously need new glasses and a hearing aid. I'll buy it myself though, because the NHS are a bunch of feckless, sycophantic idle bastards. Patient care charters? Don't get me started.. I remember back in 1988, I ended up in Hospital in Swindon.. :P

I worked in in the public sector for about 8 years. In both private and public there were lazy, incompetent, enthusiastic, dedicated, clever and inspiring people. Any workplace or organisation is the sum of its workers and I think to generalise about public v private is pointless.

PS Hirst: GR8 post, one of your best, even though the subject matter is very depressing.

Yep, you've got it. EVERYONE at the NHS is a 'feckless, sycophantic idle bastard'. No exceptions at all, including the ones on shit pay doing a shit job and getting abused, punched, kicked, spat at and threatened on a near daily basis, all for trying to help people. I expect they deserve it because they didn't fluff someone's pillow up at the correct angle, or perhaps couldn't take some fat, lazy bastard for a fag exactly when they wanted because someone on the wards had the outright cheek to have a heart attack or need the crash trolly.

Next week perhaps we can generalise about another trade, maybe car mechanics? Everyone knows they are ALL lazy, bodging, can't-be-arsed-to-fix-things-properly bastards who live for ripping off the public and trying to steal stuff so they can do foreigners at the weekend. Whilst they're not round the back of the garage smoking and talking about the secretary's arse of course.

So irony isn't your bag then. I was taking the piss. I have a huge amount of respect for NHS workers, I was having a go at Swindon!

There's no point in this thread. None at all.

If you post an opinion based on personal experience, but which doesn't fit Pravda / TUC / Daily Mirror / Morning Star / NKVD guidelines on internet posting, you'll get shouted down by someone.

"The chief function of propaganda is to convince the masses, who slowness of understanding needs to be given time in order that they may absorb information; and only constant repetition will finally succeed in imprinting an idea on their mind.........the slogan must of course be illustrated in many ways and from several angles, but in the end one must always return to the assertion of the same formula. The one will be rewarded by the surprising and almost incredible results that such a personal policy secures."

Obviously worked better on some than others. I still prefer to make my own decisions.

Posted

Trouble is, Pete, too many people seem to confuse personal opinion with incontrovertible fact. At least some of us acknowledge that there may - just possibly - be an opposing view to our own, eh...?

Posted

For the love of God Pete, stop trolling and talking shit. Just because you believe it doesn't mean everyone else does, but oh no, we can't have the great Daily Mail reader of the year having someone offer a different opinion can we?

Of course there are other opinions but when you go all JC on us (as someone rightly pointed out recently) you seem to imply that every nurse, union worker or 'bolshy' council worker is a fine example of all the others.

Some of thew bollocks on here about the NHS (not saying it's all you at all by the way) is fucking offensive, ill thought out and mostly complete shit. If anyone would like to disagree then come and swap jobs with my missus, I'd give you about 4 hours at most and you'd find out what it was like.

You need to get over 1979 or whenever it was, Rover went to the wall (eventually) because they were fucking crap cars, if you want to rail against anything you feel may have been caused by the nasty unions then go ahead but at least find another forum for your tedious fucking soapbox.

Do you get bored or something? Only every few months you get on the box, start ranting on and trying to knock anyone who disagrees with you. If you can't handle the internet without getting all troll-ish now and then perhaps it's time to switch it off for a while or just STFU with your stirring? Could you do that without trying to organise a smypathy poll on here so people can beg you to stay? I very much doubt it to be honest.

It actually sounds to me you've got a really shit job where you have to work like hell for crap money and thus want to rail against anyone you think has it cushy. You get pissed off with Wolverhampton Council? Stop going there, your job is obviously so ace your boss won't mind if you tell him. While your there make sure you stay away from hospitals, doctors, other conucils, anyone who might just have a union there.

Maybe you're on really shit money, never get a holiday, never get sick pay and your boss has you crawling up chimneys, as all those sort of things got outlawed by those horrible unions?

Whatever has made you fall off your bike this month PLEASE shut the fuck up about it, and I promise faithfully to do the same. This isn't the place and after a nice week away and planning on looking up some non-troll threads and posting some shite pictures up like the complete tit that I am I get caught up in this absolute fucking rubbish.

I like Labour and the Unions, you don't. Do we really need a fucking flame war every couple of months to sort it? I hope not.

I'll bring the thread back to something less controversial...

eBay fucktards.

I think you'll find ebay fucktards are a cause of much controversy of late!

I think it's sad what the NHS has become. Some amazing people working at my much underfunded local hospital, I know I couldn't do what they do. I have nothing but respect for the front line staff there.

Posted

Woo! Go on Billy, chat some epic amounts of bullshit.

Few quick points.

I don't read the Daily Mail, never have.

At no point have I ever said anything at all negative about Nurses - other than when they were considering strike action. I pointedly stated that I think the problem with the NHS is bloated bureaucratic departments which need to be cut.

I stated that Wolves council are shit because in my experience they are shit and I explained why. I didn't say every council is shit, not once, I named a few who are excellent. I did however state that I think that a lot of councils are bloated with unnecessary staff, and I believe that to be true. I hold Unions to blame for that. I only visit Wolves council a few times a year, so it's not something that irritates me regularly, but they are the best example of council fuckuptitude I could use based on my experiences dealing with a lot of councils.

My "shit" job pays me £25+k a year for a 3 day week, so I don't mind having to do a bit. It gives me time to do other things as well. It's people who don't work hard that irritate me. Wolves council are the perfect example, which is why I used them as an example. I'm good at my job, so I'm not worried if I have to deal with the odd workshy cunt now and then.

Rover went shit because they were nationalised. If Tony Benn hadn't fucked about with Rover they'd quite probably still be going. Unfortunately, the whole BLMC thing in the 60s meant that the whole of BL was run by a vastly swelled and mainly useless middle management that were clueless and would never have happened if Benn and his lot had left it alone. Derek Robinson and his lot merely killed what was left.

Re-write history all you like Billy, but at least try and use some facts.
