The grumpy thread

I wasn't disputing it being legal or not, but taking up the whole lane on a normal road with little to no opportunity to get past is pretty annoying especially when we had to toddle behind at just over 15mph in a 30 zone.

Posted

Legal or not, it's completely inconsiderate and something that only a complete wankstain would consider doing on a dual carraigeway, let alone on single track. It's clear to them that they are holding up traffic just so they have have a jolly good chinwag about how many dozen miles they rode for no fucking reason at all on a previous occasion.

I'm a cyclist and occasionally have to ride on the road in order to get to interesting places to ride. When I do this I try and be as considerate as possible. Obsessive road bikers like this bunch give all cyclists a bad name, and should just get a proper bike, get off road and stay out of the way of people actually trying to get on with something productive.

It appears the left-hand head gasket has gone on the Scimitar. Arseburgers.

should have swapped it for my Cortina when you had the chance :D

i have headgaskets, if you need one

have you stuck this on the scimitar 'cloth-cap' forum?

it is far too cheap at 450, and they would lap it up

Aye, but then it would probably have let go halfway to yours - I have a feeling it was on its way out anyway. Still, 223,000 miles on the original head gaskets isn't bad going...

Inkjet printers. Bloody rubbish! That's it. I'm now after a colour laserjet. Anyone got any recommendations? I'm sick of the fact that inkjet printers are just designed to be 'throw away after a year when they go wrong.' No. An object should work for longer than five minutes.

Posted

Just be aware that colour laser ink costs £££££ whatever you choose to buy. The one we have at work is about £300 for a set of carts.

PC Fools have a Hewlett Packard CP1025 colour laserjet for £99. Full set of inks= £150. My colour inkjet is 8 years old and still going strong, it gets a lot of use, I only use the cheapo ink carts @ 2 quid each, and I spilled vodka into it once. It's also full of fag ash. I'd suggest to anyone with an inkjet who doesn't use it much to turn it on now and again, just to let it run it's motion and heat cycle.

Yes, but do you have to replace them every five minutes? Inkjet cartridges are not exactly cheap - though you've always got the option for buying some 'remanufactured' ones that will pack up even sooner. Laserjets tend to be built to survive an office.

No more DW. Those Brother lasers are shittier than a shit thing covered in shit. Also, don't believe the page yield figures quoted by toner makers. HP regularly bandy about 6000 pages for a mono laser cart, and after 17 years as an IT bod, I've yet to see one get even close.

too late, looks like its heading for the re-sale market

Yep, this Mal person seems quite into it - he must be if he's going to come all the way up from Wiltshire with a trailer. Still, book price for a Condition 3 SE6B with a galvanised chassis is £650, so even with the cost of a head gasket and the fuel to drag it home he wouldn't be losing out.

I did wonder whether I should try lobbing a bottle of K-seal in there and see what happens...

Half an hour for you maybe - more like half a weekend for a mechanical luddite like myself.

lol. I couldn't change an essex HG in half an hour. Half a day is much closer (with A5 on kettle and spanner passing duty)

Rover started grumbling yesterday. I had a look today and the grumbles are coming from the aircon compressor. that could get expensive

Posted

i was listening to a repeat of moneybox live on r4 last night, and there was a case of a chap who had moved from Bristol to north London, upon moving, his insurer told him his postcode was uninsurable and cancelled his insurance on the spot and charged him £30 for the privilege.

at that point they had an insurance industry spokesman on, who said, you should always inform you insurance company if you are considering moving house and it was his own fault for not checking before he went.

considering!?!!? for fuck sake, they are supposed to be a service industry, how about you just do what i pay you to do and stop acting like the police. they are gangsters pure and simple and the public are slowly waking up to this

That's the printing works at Blists Hill, Ironbridge! Great photo, did you take autofive?

Mine has been like that for over two years. The noise is annoying but the compressor still works fine. However, you do need to start saving for a new one if you are planning to keep the car for long, as most aircon parts from scrapped cars will have died long before the car did, plus it's nigh on impossible to check them without regassing the system. And the buggers are expensive...count on a couple of hundred notes.

60-plate Mondeo got broken into during the night, my work holdall got nicked. Camera, a box of blank tachos, a defect book and blank rail replacement banners gone. Drivers side rear window got put in which'll cost coin I don't have to fix.

Topping it all off, it happened at my pal's house, while I was trying to pull her together after she tried to top herself last night. Been up all night with her. Could have fucking exploded this morning :@:@:@:@:@

The owner of this over on RR spammed my inbox last night first asking if I'd swap my Kadett for it (Which i haven't even got anymore) then asking if I'd swap my Frienza for it (I've never even owned one), what a twat, he also said in his advert "I really don't want to do this, but i'm gunna be doing hundreds of miles every week, yet he hasn't past his test from what i can work out.

He's only had the Derby a month as well!
