I've had a few phone calls on my pickup-for-sale. Most lose interest when they realise it isn't 4x4. One called yesterday and wanted to see it today. I'm still waiting, needless to say. Can't believe I've still got that thing, it's stupidly cheap for what/where it is. Oh, and I've had at least three calls on the X1/9, wish I'd bought a fleet of them!

Why don't you just tell them it IS a 4x4? You would of probably left the country before they find out. :D

Hardly a proper grump, but here goes - I haven't done any welding on the Imp in the last fortnight, and today I popped in to do some. At first I wondered how my mask had water in the lens and hoped the roof hadn't also leaked onto the welder itself (the roof does have a leak but well away from where the welder/mask were.

Oh no, it it wasn't water. It was cat piss!!:evil:

Trying to sell something on ebay with a newish account and newish paypal account.

It's a long, convoluted process and something will always go wrong resulting in having to go through a lengthy robot helpline before speaking to a person who doesn't fix the problem.

Paypal is holding 200 quid of my money and it's not letting me have it because it can't/won't authorise my account.

It wants me to add another bank account,

It wants me to confirm tracking numbers of parcel delivery companies it doesn't recognise,

It refuses to deposit money into account for verification purposes,

it obviously has took it's charges from the money it is refusing to give me - also it won't let me use the money to pay for shipping, money I don't have which is the reason why I sold these fucking things,

Automated helpline promises another helpline which is just another automated helpline - it then offers a phone number which is just a speaking automated version of the previous automated helplines - fucking dogshit appalling. Leaving the premium rate phone call to run through it's options for 15 minutes puts you through to a human being (possibly one of the 10 that works for the ebay/paypal operations), who is as much use as the automated 48k computer helpline after I've gone at it with a big fucking hammer and then done a great big steaming shite into it's smoking electronic components.

Why has no-one else stepped in and produced a better business model than ebay? There can't only be one successful online auction site (apart from ebid which is hardly a competitor), the gap is huge for someone to offer anything which would be an improvement on paypal/ebay?

I refuse to use ebay after this, it's a big load of messed up bollocks even in the simplest of cases.

There was supposed to be someone coming to see the Alfa tonight at 7 .

Theyre still not here and no call or text. If youre not going to show then send me a text! Now I can't go out and buy more cooking sherry as if they turn up the mrs will be in on her own.

I take it back they turned up and bought it. I took a bath on this one folks but that's the nature of these old knackers.

It's a good job too as I brought the Volvo down the road tonight and it's sculking around the corner. Now I can put it on the drive.

Is it me, or is there a new bastardisation of the English language involving missing words doing the rounds now? It seems to revolve around expressions starting with 'It'll need' such as: 'It'll need trailered away'

Surely that should be 'It'll need TO BE trailered away'?

I've noticed Americans using that kind of expression, Billy. "It needs restored" for example. Yeah, it grates on me too. It needs restoring!

The standard of education in the US is abysmal, kilt is apparently the past tense of the verb to kill. They probably spend too much time in the schoolroom teaching kids that Darwin was wrong and also that there is no such thing as global warming.

Spell checkers are also partly to blame.

Since when has Millom in Cumbria been in the Highlands? Logistics is in a new phase of nightmare - I now have to get a customers postcode and check whether it is designated "Highlands and Islands" before quoting delivery. I expect if I could be bothered to check that they are surcharging the Isles of Dogs and Sheppey.

I would say the former is correct, or at least less grating.

"It wants to be" pisses me off. Example: some years ago my Uncle and I built a rally car for a gurning Yorkshireman, who complained about everything. While he was bitching about the seat, he said "it wants to be a quarter inch lower". My Uncle lost the bap with him, and said "It's a fucking seat! An inanimate object. It has no aspirations or desires whatsoever you cockhead"

Funny enough, the seat was just fine, as it happened.

I use a site called Interparcel. They are very good as they give you a choice of different carriers, delivery options and prices so you can choose the most suitable. However, in this case they only listed two couriers willing to deliver to Millom and I tend from experience not to choose the cheapest as they don't collect when they should. So that left one company. I am not sure if each company has its own idea of which places are "Highlands and Islands" and Interparcel have refused my initial request for them to supply me with a list of the affected postcodes (which they used to publish on the website).

I am pretty sure we were promised that this sort of thing wasn't going to happen when HMG removed the Post Office monopoly. It makes it difficult for small businesses and ebay traders to give a fair P&P and it penalises the rural areas.

They still sound better than HDN \ Yodel. A mate's new phone got sent to Inverness by mistake because they reckoned Salford was somewhere in Scotland. It disappeared up North to the wrong hub, and then one of the staff nicked it. 'They're from the agency', was their excuse.

I sold my big telly the other day, after reposting the ad with some reductions (including that). Very nice chap came, saw it, bought it, paid cash, no haggling, took it away...

...Today I got a PM from him. He set it up, watched it the first night, smelled something overheating. Following day, no picture. He's sent it away to be assessed, and hopefully repaired.

Shit.

I've spent at least half the money already, on fripperies like bread and milk. Do I play the good guy and offer him a contribution to the repair? Or do I just say "look matey, that's tough, but hey, it's yours now" which makes me look a right cold bastard? Fucked if I know...

Bugger.

Further complication: we talked about a tool cabinet for outside use; it just so happens I have one, and I've already offered it to him at 1/3 new price.

I hate selling stuff and I hate dealing with people.

Also, Mrs R is full of cold. Understandable as we're getting some real English weather at the moment! You should be able to see individual drops...

(postcode is correct, hermes have both mine and mechanics phone numbers on the parcel, but havent rang either number) still not delivered after 16 days. the caliper is a freeby for a customer sent to his mechanic's address. looks like they are running out of excuses and the parcel is lost/stolen

Bought an original Allegro tax disk holder on eBay. It arrived last week and looked awesome. I left it by the front door in an envelope until today when I collected the car from it's garage. Could I find the tax holder anywhere, nope! The Mrs now admits she thought it was rubbish and threw it away...

I'm seriously annoyed.

Since Thursday I've been struggling to connect to the internet on my new Dell PC, it was fine until then but now it keeps coming up with install a driver for your network adapter.

I rang BT thinking it was my old home hub and got the brand new home hub 3 delivered today and it still won't connect.

So I've been on the phone to Dell this afternoon for 45mins trying to fix it, after installing a new driver fix it still hasn't cured it, it turns out the modems knackered on my computer and its all part of the motherboard and it needs replacing.

As its only 2 months old its under warranty but its 2 weeks before i can get it fixed or pay £29 and have a engineer come out tomorrow and fix it. what a con.

Well the last puppy went to a new home today. I'm going to miss them, especially him as we had him the longest. He was 8 weeks old yesterday.

In other news, we've had industrial quantities of wind and rain over the last few days. My carports have been lacerated, and since I can't afford to replace the covers I'll just have to patch them up. And there's more wind and rain to come, apparently...

Also, the bloke who bought my telly has been in touch, seems it's a 400 euro repair. He's wanting to return the set and claim a refund. I've told him I've spent the money, but he can have it when I sell something else. I don't think there's really anything else I can do, so that's as fair as I can be.

Money = the root of all evil. It certainly seems to be, in my life!

Why do people put ebay classified ads on their watch list? Just phone me, FFS.

I've been known to do that - Bookmarking it until your own car sells and you have the cash
