Getting there Eddy, getting there. Reading my piles of new literature, browsing AS and listening to some good albums.

:D Yesterday it was taking me twenty minutes to get out of bed.

How's Mrs RR?

Improving mightily, thanks. She can walk a bit now, even without her stick; settee to bathroom, that kind of thing. It must help that we live in a bungalow. :D

I suppose I should have put this in the Update thread, but really, it's probably redundant now.

Glad to hear the boss is improving Eddy. I was ill all Chrimbo day too with a stomach bug too.

Maybe the guy should have said something like "I love seeing things I don't like, and this numberplate thing has just made me go OOF" or "I find it amazing how much I dislike this Jap bent plate crap"

Thats VIP, their no.1 pseudo-moderator and internet health and safety officer, theres no need to take a blind bit of notice of anything he says, in fact i find him quite good value if you're looking to wind someone up on an internet forum. He defo writes into PC every single time theres a photo of someone doing something without gloves/goggles/additional axle stands etc.

He had a great for sale thread once where he had got a Honda civic to 'mod up', but all he'd managed to do was snap off every bolt head he'd touched (incluiding some fairly important ones in the suspension) plus the steering wheel boss, then given up and boshed it straight up for sale.

My local car spares place has recently been taken over by an Indian family who run some kind of "Ambulance Chasers R Us" operation from the back room. I went in there today to buy an alternator belt. The first guy behind the counter didn't speak enough English to understand what I wanted, while counter-monkey #2 didn't know what an alternator belt was (he also failed on fan belt and auxiliary belt)

I just refer to him as 'Bruce's bum boy' and everyone knows who I'm talking about. What a snivelling, unctuous creep he is.

There are loads of wannabee RetroRide mods on that forum "don't want to hear what you dont like" "I order you to be excellent to each other" "I order you to post up what you do like" e.t.c. They really should do something about it, I.E new rule, unless you are an actual mod, DO NOT act like one.

Top suggestion LT, and on a very cc specific page of GOM, as well!

It's the constant in fighting and endless threads consisting of badly lowered BMWs photographed in wanky soft focus that put me off Retro Rides a while back. I find rmad to be one of the rudest and least professional mods I've ever encountered and VIP is one annoying little fuck.

The Parts For Sale section is still quite good though.

Or they could accept some people have an opinion and allow free speech - oh no, i'm being silly now

I use to get really irritated with RR and their policy of enforced positivity but it's too much effort for nothing so it doesn't bother me anymore

Yeah but its all full of WIN (Wanky Inappropriately-modified Nails) on RR...

Just today I was having a browse of the general section to be greeted by the sight oferplates, bent numb crappy Honda Preludes and such like... gone seem to be the days when RR was a decent operation with some lovely, subtly, modified classic cars as well as some Batshit crazy engineering threads, a la SOC A40 and the lad shoehorning a Supra into a Morris Minor.

Oh and the MODs refusal to admit anything is shit and should be called shit, particularly as it encourages muppets to have a go themselves. And yet RetroImafuckingvegetariansoineedtosellthiswankysaabforamassivemarkupdespitethefactallitsdoneitsithereandhavemeweepovertheleatherseats is allowed to post random shit across the board whinging about everything, if he wasn't already known they'd have binned him long ago.

[/rant]

I suppose there is always the 294 Sunbeam rescue thread to entertain oneself whilst one is browsing the calvalcade of E36 Beemers.

Decided to have a browse of my copy of 50 Years of Classic Cars which has been on the bookshelf for donkey's years only to find that half the pages are stuck together. :(

I know the way you lot think and No, that is not how they got all sticky! :) Probably a combination of damp atmosphere and me cramming too many books on the shelf.

too many glossy pics, and slight damp atmos, can cause this too, the colour inks start to flow

stand it open near a radiator for a hour or so, then carefully seperate with a blunt knife, starting in the middle of the book (and spine edge) and work out. you might still get some ink transfer, but you should be able to read the text.

Thanks I'll try that, otherwise as it might have to go on the bay, half price for half a book

I was looking through one of my boxes of 7" records yesterday and a load of the picture sleeves were stuck together. I was pretty annoyed, even though most of them were Howard Jones or Paul Young etc.

I was going through my collection of Razzle magazines the other day funny enough but found a load of pages stuck together, Luckily it was only the readers wife's pages.

Renewed the insurance on Mrs DSdriver's car this morning. I was charged an extra £42.93 for being perceived as being a bad risk because I had an accident in a different car.

Effing crooks.

It might be worth getting yourself down to the doctor's for a course of antibiotics. Make sure you get the type that are not affected by alcohol consumption.

Cancelled the insurance on the Mazda and have been charged £70 for the pleasure. When you include the deposit, thats about £35 per journey

Fucking HMRC

The tossers have decided they've undertaxed me for 2008, 2009 & 2010, so can I please send them £5,800 by the end of January or call them to arrange a payment plan

I'm a fucking PAYE paying employee, not a self employed international playboy or anything!!

So I'm going to (a) dispute it and (B) take as long as legally possible to pay them back...bunch of inefficient cunts.

Happy New Year my arse :(

Oh, and in the same post but by a separate letter, I now have a negative tax code for this year as they anticipate me earning more than they expected

Make a claim under ESC A19 - there's advice on the HMRC website and also more useful practical info on the Martin Lewis Money Saving Expert site.

I had a similar letter last year advising that I owed £2,200 from the 2007/08 tax year - which just so happened to coincide with a switch of job when I gave back a company car. Thanks to Tayne, who gave me the heads-up on the above, I fought it on the basis that (a) I believed at the time my tax affairs were in order and (B) they should have spotted the error within 12 months. A couple of weeks later I got a letter saying they accepted my response and the amount was written off. Worth a try.

Our house has been on the market for a few months with ZERO interest, nothing, not one viewing- however the house we want to buy has been on the market for 2 weeks and has had LOADS of interest. Apparently someone is about to make an offer on it today.

Fucking housing market.

Be careful with this, as a work colleague was tricked into making a quick bid on a house he liked

house market is dead over xmas period and estate agents are lying bastards

dont believe a word they say

I agree. Never believe estate agents. Also don't start looking at houses until you have a buyer for yours. Better still, consider going into rented...The housing market is so fucked that I'm glad I sold in late 2006, even if any 'profits' I made have been long wiped out by the subsequent financial meltdown.
