The grumpy thread

When my dad retired he wanted to buy a Focus with cash. The Ford dealer wouldn't have it and insisted on selling the car on finance and instructing us to make the payments for X months before paying the rest off in one go. Result: Trip to local Volkswagen dealer to buy Golf with no fuss.

This is the same Ford dealer who wanted £100 for 'checks' on top of the 'non-negotiable' price of a used Focus. Result: Trip to local Volkswagen dealer to buy used Polo with no fuss and no extra charges.

Would this be E**** H******, the same dealer who offered me £50 in trade in for my 306 against a hilariously overpriced Focus TDCi?

Net result: For some reason I went a bought a C4 instead.

Got it in one. We were told the price of the (1.6 petrol) Focus wasn't negotiable because Focuses are popular and they'd eventually sell it at full price. Which is fair enough, why bother selling it to someone who knows a HPI check isn't supposed to cost the buyer £100 and doesn't want a car peppered with tiny dents with dubious tyres when a couple of days later someone else will turn up and just buy it?

As you might be aware from previous postings, I love my dog. She doesn't take too kindly to other dogs though, with one notable exception: a hefty Jack Russell that lives nearby, named, guess what, Jack. He's taken to invading our yard to be with her, destroying my pretty new bamboo fencing in several places. Why? Because Memphis is in season. Jack is very good: even with this over-riding urge going on, he will let me pick him up and escort him off the premises, but then he just comes back in another way (the boundary isn't 100% secure). Today I found them in her run where he had obviously been forcing his attentions on her. "Obviously," because they were stuck together! It says a lot for both dogs that they trusted me enough to let me pull them apart, which wasn't easy, especially without hurting either one.

Anyone want a Jack Russell/chihuahua puppy in a few weeks? I can't afford to keep them.

Alas, six months in quarantine would probably finish off any puppy.

Are you sure you didn't catch Jack before he got to his vinegars?

Sadly, that's very likely true, I'll have to try and find homes for them here, assuming she has any. I'm pretty sure they'd done what they had to do by the time I found them, but you never know, do you?

Was he smoking a cigarette and looking happy? He could suffer from retarded ejaculation like a certain shiter on here does?

He didn't look happy at all, which is unlike him. He looked distinctly uncomfortable! Can't argue with that, I suppose, imagine if you got stuck in some tart during the Horizontal Olympics...

I know this is the Grump thread, but even as I was trying to ease them apart I couldn't help seeing the funny side...

Now if you want a real grump... Mrs Ramrod's health. It was her birthday last week, and precisely on that day her vision suddenly became confused. She's seeing blurred and double images; also, she's finding it hard to remember the names of things, like a glass of water. Simple things. She had an MRI scan on Saturday (500 euros at a local private hospital) which has come out clean, so back to her own doc tomorrow (Tuesday) to check on some other possibilities. We've been seriously worried for days now. She's not showing any improvement worthy of the name. I almost didn't post about this, but now we're pretty sure it isn't a tumour I feel I can share.

Firstly, get well soon.

Secondly, maybe she's had a mini stroke?

Chin up fella, Mrs Ramrod never saw your pup at it did she? Might be shock :D

 No, that was today... well yesterday now, really, and she's been battling this for several days now, her birthday was last Wednesday. And it's not as if she's 99, she's only 56.

 Actually yes Norm, check out the Blue thread! 55 Chevy at Chula Vista marina, SoCal... and behind it is the lovely Mrs R looking out to sea, with her back to our rental.

And I'm sure I've posted a pic of Memphis before too, possibly in Grin, but it'll be a while ago; up to 7 months.

With the luck I have been having - if I had been a pair of knickers I would have been bought by Mo Mowlam or Anne Widdicombe.

I may have posted this before. My intended and I were in a road accident just prior to Xmas 2010, and we were SMACKED MY BITCH UP by a single decker right beside Belfast City Hall. Said bus hit us, in a stationary DB7, sufficiently hard enough to pivot the car against the kerb, up about 40 degrees and back down. I was hardly injured, but Kate's head went through the driver's window.

The first person she recognised was me, not by sight, but by how I smell. Kate too had to do a thing called CBT, Cognative Behavioural Therapy. For the first few weeks I bathed her, fed her, dressed and she got better every day. Not difficult or a chore when it's someone you love with all your heart.

I'll not bore you with the details thereafter.

Best wishes Sir. I hope you are as lucky as we were. ALL UR MATES R HERE

Ash: wow, and well done for helping your beloved back into shape. I'm with you all the way.

Norm: Memphis is the replacement for the two that were stolen, they were Cagney and Lacey. They are now probably three times her size but, I hope, still lovable. Memphis certainly is that!

And generally, again: thanks guys.

Even if she is a murdererous bint (which I'm not commenting on) she's still got better people skillz than most of my exes.

" Dress in something comfortable."

What, like a brown Leatherette swivel chair and some Russet coloured woven cushions?

I've just spend two hours writing a good car related thread on here and It's just deleted itself as it signed me out as i posted it. Arse.

Ouch! This happens to me so often, that I'm in the habit of copying every post I make to the clipboard 'just in case'.

I tend to write long posts or threads in Notepad these days, saving it as I go along, copy and pasting into the forum and then hitting "preview".

Well i got all premenstrual today and nearly left here but after some kind words from some other members I decided to stick it out and make a proper thread about some proper cars even using books as reference like a grown up, only to cock it up.

Slightly OT Trig but do you ever get lots of interesting imported tat arriving at your docks? Seaforth is crawling with USA and JDM tin of all ages.

I hear of a lot of stuff but i don't see much, A mate knocked over some boxes a few years ago which had two brand new Bentley Continental R's in and wrote them off and another lad knocked a box over once with some million pound 1960's Mercedes in, I've seen a few damaged yank cars parked by the customs house and a mate of mine saw these a few weeks ago by a warehouse down there.

But everything comes in containers so you never see what's in them unless it's big and had to go to the fork park on a flat, you often see buses, helicopters and UN vehicles like that.

Trigger, is that one of those South African things as featured on TG recently?

Presumably here for an upgrade, the remains of British industry that we don't talk about.
