The grumpy thread

Still waiting for my car.

It went in on 30th for valve stem seals and MOT, I just phoned: they are in the middle of doing the seals. Is this a reasonable time frame for the job? :|

I take it this on an A-Series in an Allegro? In a word, no. Should be a day and half's job, including decoke.

My grump for today: TV weather forcasts. The clue is in the name, really... forcast. I KNOW what the weather was doing today, thanks, I was living through it. I also do not need to know what it was doing in Timbuktu, because they're holding the world frog swallow championships there. Oh, and if you give me the highest and lowest tempretures you don't need to tell me that 'the average was somewhere between the two...'

It can be quite annoying when you get customers in the showroom I work in 'giving it large' asking for big discounts off cars...then no finance company will touch them cos they're scum.

Case today: man and woman looking at '10' plate Merc S350CDi . List price £77000 new, ours is 6 months old, 5000 miles £55,000. Pretty good saving, huh?

£55,000 is alot to put on finance on a motor car too, surely there are much more efficient ways of doing that.

My boss at work just bought (no finance) an 09 plate S350CDi with 19k miles for £28k. From a Mercedes main agent.

If the things are losing close to £50k in two years it's no wonder they're not giving finance on them to shysters. Makes sense really as there's fuck all chance of ever getting anywhere near their money back even if they repo'd the thing after the first payment.

Nice car, but as an investment it's similar to asking the the KLF to mind a suitcase full of money.

Yeah, the aggro. Bit annoyed. Mostly because I miss it and a little bit because we are sharing one car when Matt's on lates so I have to sit in the police station carpark every night at midnight waiting for him to finish... and it's nothing like watching Road Wars. In fact its tres dull.

Good point Pete, I had not even considered that side of it - having never bought a car on finance the whole concept is frankly a bit bewildering...

Just realised. '09 plate. It's lost £50k in one year....

As usual in the traffic there was a pedal cyclist weaving through the cars to be a bit quicker to work - and possibly be smug about it. Weaving between that car and van was not a good move - that towrope had him off a treat. NOT SO SMUG NOW ARE YOU :D Enjoy the gravel rash

:D

This cheered me up immensely, thanks!

I'm sure I've mentioned it before but the council spent £40,000 on a cycle path across the entire length of the seafront here, twats still cycle in the adjacent road beleiving themselves to be too good at cycling to use the normal person cycle lane. Dicks.

Are people still allowed to walk along said £40000 cycle path? That annoys me if I'm trying to get somewhere on a bike rather than just out for a bit of a social ride with friends or whatever. Councils rarely make cycle paths that are actually more convenient for cyclists to use: they make them because they have an obligation to do so. There's a route I used to take to work that the council have put a cyclepath/pedestrian way in beside. On the road I used to see 40 mph on the downhill bits, which when commuting was important as you could then use that speed to get you up the next hill without dropping below about 12 mph, then you were into downhill again. The cycle path has corners at the bottom of the hill that limit your speed to about 20, and I'd say even less in the dark. The energy that I'd already "banked" by going uphill in the first place(it was a sea-level start) would be lost in braking. This is not something that I'd want after 13 hours on my feet and with a total milage that day of about 30 miles of commute under my wheels!

Thank phuque I don't have to use it anymore because I moved away!

Fleas.

I've only lived in this current shanty for 4 weeks and fucking place is seemingly infested with the little bastards. Their cat died before I moved in and left it's friends hiding everywhere and they are IMPOSSIBLE to kill. I've got pliers in front of me for squishing them, that just about does for them. Are they made of steel? I might burn the place to the ground, that'll get them. I'm right fucked off with it, just thinking about it is making me itch!

It's practically impossible to crush a flea, they just pop back into shape like Tom and Jerry do, you'll never manage to find and crush them faster than they can breed. Chemicals are the only way, a vet should be able to sell you an aerosol can of stuff to spray around the house.

RE: Fleas

A vet we once went to suggested chopping them in half with the edges of your fingernails, or edge or fingernail and a hard surface. Seemed to work usually.

RE: Cycle lanes

The one here is on the promenade which is about 30ft wide. The cycle path is in the middle of it and is about 6ft wide. Despite being incredibly well marked, yes, morons do stagger into it without looking.

Contact your local council - most will exterminate fleas free.

An internet acquaintance joined the EDL a while ago. Predictably he claims they aren't racist. :?

Here is a Christmas card he got from the BNP. Education, education, education.

That should be in the grin thread.

*facepalm* @ BNP card!

What a buch of morons. I recon Hitler would have had them exterminated for being educationally subnormal anyway.

Will they? My local council wanted $$$ to deal with a wasps' nest.

Depends on the council.

Ours is Sunderland. My mate has had fleas exterminated several times, he rescues cats and dogs that come with them attached.

My daughter had a wasps nest free last year.

At least it wouldn't need primed... if it was me I'd swap the front indicators for clear, put a pre-V grille on it, and (paint) roller the whole bloody lot white. Astra diesel estates only look good in white. Well, my work's hack didn't, but then that's the only example I've ever seen of a cal being rollered with a trowel. It also was an n/a 1.7D Merit with no power steering, no back brakes and 130k under it's belt so I think that was allowed...

Just noticed they've drawn the swastika the wrong way round.

Doesn't that make it a Hundu Swastika?

I have to admit, after growing up in a predominantly asian area of Birmingham I got fed up of getting my head kicked in and getting racially abused by roaming gangs of asian youths and I eventually moved away. The police aren't interested in this sort of crime, racism seemingly only works "one way". Its a topic nobody wants to talk about. I can fully understand the need some people feel to form groups such as the EDL but after reading up on them the majority of the EDL seems to be made up by football hooligans who will join any kind of group if there is half a chance of drunken violence. I think this is a great pity as it causes any sort of mature discussion on the subject to become stifled.

Bet you all have bad opinions of me now!

Posted

Not at all, Lankytim. Why should racism run just one way? Reparations will always be sought when a blind eye is turned to them, justified or not - think white phosphorus on Palestinian settlements.

Posted

It would appear the initial idea of the EDL was probably not that bad, they set out to only fight fundamental extremists. Unfortunately they got hijacked by racists and trouble causers.

If you ever get bored take a look at their website/forum, they do state they don't want troublemakers etc to be fair to them but I think it's gone way past that now.

The forums are quite funny (in an ironic manner) as there is (or was) plenty of people saying they weren't racist then when probed or annoyed, or their previous post history was checked, they made the BNP look like the Anti Nazi league.

Back to that Astra not only does it look completely shit but it's got the Slowblow engine too.

I'm not racist, but (WE SHOULD SEND THEM ALL BACK/WHITE JOBS FOR WHITE PEOPLE/ENOCH POWELL WOZ RITE), etc.

It's a sticky topic and not one which really ends well on forums, but there are a hell of a lot of grey areas. Votes by proxy, personal details being revealed for intimidation, people being watched, "arranged" troublemakers funded directly by political parties, smear campaigns, people used as pawns, gangs, fraud - and this is the case for pretty much every side of the argument. Some of the anti-racism groups are responsible for things just as shocking as the rest - it is like the mafia. If you read into it, there really is no group you can confidently stand behind, the whole thing is "dirtied". There's too many groups speaking on behalf of other people who have enough power to get everyone else's back up. A lot of people need to wind their necks in and there are some specific problems too, mostly to do with parents not bringing their easily-influenced "little angels" properly, also students need to shut the hell up and get back to studying.

The moral of the story is that we're not all the same, but there's shared ground in that the bulk of people just want to get on with their lives without hassle - if the vocal few weren't so prolific, that might be possible.

The EDL came down to march in Brighton, I went down and shouted abuse at them. They had to have a police escort the whole time, and not only were they outnumbered by the police, there were about 4 times as many protestors shouting 'NAZI SCUM!' at them. All in all a good day out!

It's related to the slowblow, but replaced the Isuzu TD and has a similar bhp figure.

I'm not sure why the 'Porsche wheel' Astrat estate is so highly rated, it's full of similarly rubbish ideas, applied to a rubbish base, just done quite well.

My Astra Estate looked better, and that was "patina"..... there are pictures somehwere of it fully laden....
