Fuck me as if a hole in the sills of one car isn't run enough for one day the sodding handbrake on the ST is clicking and when pulled on.

Don't know how may times this thing had been messed with but it's a lot.

In a very special follow up to this. On its way home from the shop it decided to start making a lovely banging sound from the offside rear.

God only know what it is as after half an hour laying on the floor checking everything I can find exactly bugger all wrong. Taking it to the main dealers tomorrow to let them have a look.

Supposed to be taking it to Coventry Sunday. Twat always breaks when there's a trip planned.

Sounds like the ratchet is fucked, easy enough job if you can get the car in the air to join the 2 cables underneath. Might be able to clean up the gears with a needle file but I wouldn’t bank on it, fit a used one.

The shot of the EGR you showed the other day looked like the same fitted to the 1.8/2.0 mk3 Mondeos, a bit tight but easily do able with a 1/4 drive socket set, should be a thin metal gasket underneath that doesn’t seal too well sometimes. A smear of RTV sealant should do it.

Either way I’d avoid the main dealers, I’d be surprised if they still stock the ratchet plus it’ll be a right bomb to have fixed there. It’s not a big DIY job tbh.

Minor grump - who does European breakdown cover for chod? Everything is for vehicles less than 10 or 15 years old. Back to ADAC at this rate unless they've changed their rules too.

My grump for today is we’ve buried my mother today, it was awful, a brilliant service and a good turn out but nevertheless it’s never going to be a happy occasion. I’m always the same at a funeral, I’m ok until I see people you don’t normally see upset crying.

ADAC have changed their rules, they will no longer accept new memberships from non Germany residents

My condolences on your loss sir.

Giving tide (www.tide.co) a go instead even though it’s not ideal for multiple users. They claim no hard credit check just identity verification and have referred the application for further checks anyway!

Do Starling do business accounts? I've found them top notch. Completely sensible simple modern banking.

Edit: they do, and they're free for small businesses

It started as the handbrake clicking but now that's quite. It bangs going over lumps and made a nasty sound turning left. It wasn't doing it this morning.

The main dealers is Coopers of Oulton who are excellent and haven't charged for tons of work.

On having a look the EGR does seem to be the same as others. I've been warned off it as Mrs Shrimp is pretty pissed off with cars at the moment.

Bad with sympathy but my condolences.

This is not in the same league as sierraman obviously, but I lay my grump down nonetheless. This is not directed at anyone here. It's the others, the non-shitters that are the problem!

Is it so hard to exercise basic civility?

I'm not talking about being moral, kind or some eloquent, erudite etiquette guru. I'm referring to being able to behave in public, around strangers and vague acquaintances, where the first thing others notice about you is not you malignant personality and/or reckless and dangerous behaviour.

Call me a traditionalist, but surely it should take some time before others get to know how truly odious we are? I just wonder about the extent of the general cuntitude of an individual, where just a brief glance lets you know they are a psychopath, or a chat about the weather and general fat chewing reveals they are pathologically selfish and malicious.

Thing is every time I step out of my flat I encounter at least one of these fuckers within minutes. It's been this way for a long time and now I dread going out. My work has suffered and I feel the hostility others express to fellow human beings, for no reason, is really testing my sanity,

I just think surely it's harder to tailgate and run someone off the road than it is to drive like a sensible adult? It's hard work harassing someone, right? Devoting your time to gossip, racism and defaming other individuals takes more energy than to just be polite and get on with your own business. It's easier to be polite than pointlessly rude is it not?

I wonder if these people ever question why they are disliked and lonely or why their lives are shit. Or what is their grand plan? To make everybody else as fucked up as they are?

I'm trying not to let it get me down or bite back, but I won't be applying for a shot gun license any time soon though. But keeping it together is getting harder.

Technology and the lies told about it!

FFS!

Everything you read claims 'tyre' works with ALL tomtoms as a route planner. It fucking well doesn't you lying cunts! I've managed to buy one it doesn't work with. So I tried to do things the hard way & add all the way points as favourites on the thing & halfway through day 8 it won't accept anymore.

FFS!

At this rate I'll be taking a hand written list of GPS co-ordinates to sit & program in every evening, hardly the point of a fucking twat-nav eh? Being a basic twat-nav it only does a single way point per trip so I'll be resetting it all day every day anyway each time I get to a random point I've programmed in. FFS! I wish I'd coloured the map in for my route now, it'd be easier than this bollocks.

tl:dr - software & hardware developers are all lying cunts.

You've described my experience quite well there Wrenchvolt, I've been telling myself that these scumcunts are a minority and I'm being over-sensitive / age is lowering my tolerance, it's the population becoming denser as my town turns into London so naturally I'm encountering more arseholes, or it's that temporary free and easy credit thing bringing the maggots out of the woodwork and all that guff but I've been very wrong. People are turning fucking feral on a big scale, maybe it's living like rats turning them into disgusting rats, evolution has certainly hit a U-turn, and I fear the eons it took for our race to reach the peak of civility, somewhere in the eighties, will be totally reversed over mere decades, if it's not already too far gone.

I hear you, brother. I genuinely think it must be easier to act like a massive bastard nowadays, for most people at least.

Tiring, isn't it.

I agree Des, a degradation in environment is a massive cause of a degradation in behaviour. I'm normally positive and upbeat but I think things are going weird out there (not an especially scientific statement). I live in London, but when I go elsewhere in the country, people seem a lot more pragmatic and calm.

Hey Mr.Ben, it seems easier at the time. A couple of psychos tried to run me off the road today at a traffic light as the light turned green. They tried to get past as the light turned green immediately by mounting a traffic Island. I pulled out of their way as soon as was safe (within seconds), that wasn't good enough for them tho. The driver indicated to pull over for some Neanderthal Ronny Pickering shit, I just turned down a side road, went home and had a cuppa with the Mrs.

My particular problem with this stuff is I don't respond well to people getting in my space. Some people respond differently to potentially scary situations I suppose. Some remain calm and of sound reason, some get an adrenal dump(a poop in the pants does happen :-D ). I read about fight, flight and freeze instinct and some of us are wired to respond in a particular way. This is enhanced by nurture too. I'm the sort that if a rino was attacking people in a supermarket, I'd try and punch it in ass, It's the way I'm rigged. Which is hysterical given my small frame (I look like my profile picture). I have a hard time controlling some very strong feelings when people get up in my face. It's also my default to be peaceful and friendly. The stress really upsets me for a long time.

Update.

Turns out it only works on some tomtoms, not cheap ones, not very old ones & not new ones - thats handy then as it's described everywhere as working with ALL!

I'm getting a Garmin at lunchtime for a lot more than I wanted to pay but it appears to do what I need, I'll just have to spend another night programming all my routes in. Anyone want a cheap tomtom smart 20?

The thing is though you mention small frame, what a lot of people forget though is physical size doesnt equate directly to strength and power.

don't you read the ebay adverts, they literally have everything including pretend to be a nurse kits though from what I read back in the 90s dozens of  fake doctors were actually employed by the NHS  so you get a free lanyard then.

I'm sure it's easier to buy fake qualifications these days

That lanyard wouldn't be allowed here, we need the triple breakaway ones which that doesn't appear to be.

Sadly, in my case it does, you are right tho in others it may not. Being in a physical confrontation with me would be a bit like being savaged by a limp banana peel.

Besides, I gave up trying to be tough, many, many years ago. The risks for getting into street fights are in most cases far too high and what's the reward? Satisfy one's ego or feel you have carried out some sort of justice? Stabbings, acid attacks and being locked up are too close a possibility with such an undertaking.

I always say to myself "J, Don't over react. You don't have to meter out karma, there are plenty of other nutters to do that, the aggressive ones are suffering, don't be a div and suffer with them".

That ebay seller is probably where we get ours from. It wouldn't surprise me!

Nah I'm sure you'll use an 'approved provider' so they cost about £15 each.

yet another load of road works , with fairy lights for stop go farting around .....

engage pissed off mode in my old car

so I drove over the cones that appeared into my view as the big lorry exposed them to me .....

and kept going ....

with the dying cone stuck under my car ....

and all the pointers wafting in their new posh  cars pointed and said unto me " you have cone stuck under your car !! "

as I progressed along the road with the man in the council truck chasing after me   .....

so I drove up the kerb to release it but it wanted to play some more ..

so I reversed over it which brought forth more crunching of dying cone ...

at which point I got out and handed its remains to the following council driver who slung it in the back of his truck ....
