The grumpy thread

Mine was the same.

There is some slight discolouration of the glass near one of the pins so I suspect that that pin has sheared.

I'll be buying another bulb to test that.

The CX's nearside high beam has failed. Got the bulb out only to find the filament was still intact. Cleaned the contacts and stuck the thing back in. Still nothing. Scratched head, puzzled. All the other headlamp bulbs work perfectly.

And still it rained. I'll check the fuses some other time. Ditto the air horns and compressor.

I’d check the connections- Citroen were never big on relays, but those there are on a s2 were all behind the n/s headlamp. If one beam is ok then it’s not the switch or the relay, but the connector to the lamp itself.

Minor vehicle-related grump.

My BMW key has decided to stop remote central locking. I like things to work and despite the claims that the BMW (diamond shaped) key has a battery that gets recharged everytime it's used, eventually the batteries die.

I managed to open the key fob, and locate the battery, which is soldered 4 times with tiny soldering points. They are easy to prise apart, but as I did the last one I noticed that the bottom battery contact track has broken away from its solder.

Arse! No wonder it stopped, there may be nothing wrong with the battery after all. Pah, now I need to get the track soldered and I ain't good at soldering, oddly enough, I used to be great at arc welding. (Yes, I know, different but similar principles)

Is the ews chip on the board or separate in the case?

People do that in the woods where I walk the dogs. They've picked it up and then hung them in the trees or over the gatepost as you walk into the woods.

Well done morons, if you'd left it on the floor unbagged it'd just rot or wash away. Bagging it then hanging up in a tree means it won't rot or wash away but will stay there for years! Why!? Disgusting.

Life today is all about being seen to do the right thing. If someone is watching then they bag it up and throw it later when nobody is watching.

Could it have been the people who provided them in the first place taking them back?

Highly unlikely, we think it was tatters who we discovered later had been in the area.

Original installers would surely have made contact first and it is unlikely that they would have been aware of the change of ownership and the lack of need for them.

Wondered if it was the council (or a sub contractor) and they had been made aware the adaptions were no longer required.

You need to swap an Xbox for a pitbull to keep in the back yard...

Seperate in the case. Yes I could just the case with EWS and key on thier own, but I'd just rather not. It's a constant reminder that I need to do something about it sooner rather than later.

Doing battle all this week with the Streetwise SCU which is handily* wedged in behind the air conditioning condenser unit with the space of a gnat's penis in terms of wriggle room between it and the bulkhead. I have to get the bloody thing out and packed off to a technogenius in Brighton as I have no working horn or rear fog light (or rather I do, but the horn stays on permanently - known issue with a failed chip on the SCU PCB) and MoT is looming.

The vague Rover instructions seem to be, yank the A/C housing out as far as you can (needs one hand), then stick two hands up behind to wiggle the SCU box to the left to unlatch it from a hook welded onto the bulkhead - then it simply* drops out. You see the problem ? I need three hands....

The alternative is to take the whole bloody thing to bits which will be a royal PITA

Anyone else done this on a 25 or ZR ?

My first one had sudden hydro failure at 160 kph and almost killed me as a result,

my second one thankfully threw a rod just when I was royally fed up with that pile of shit.

None of the two ever had a fault as trivial as a non op headlight bulb.

Well, aren't you the lucky one?

My kindle is dead :-( night before last is used up all its charge. Last night at 18% it just went off. Black screen wouldn't turn on.

Left it on charge just in case it was the battery flat but found it very hot today. Took it out of its case and there's a spot on its back a different colour.

Took the back off. Unplugged the battery and it started clicking from the chip under the spot when I plugged it back in so it must have over heated while using it and died. They've actually gone up and are now £50, sod that.

Spent from last weekend being woken up at three am by the police. Checking to see if foster child one had been back. He finally reappeared on Friday. Downside is because I have been so tired and run down I have caught a cold off my grandsons. Who I minded on Tuesday and Wednesday cos off school. Can't remember when I last had a cold.have been thinking about swapping big jap bus for something a bit nicer. Then yesterday kids get bikes off rack and drop it onto side door while leaning it up. Another dent. Then they come back and stand all over seat to get into the rear seats. So dirty seats. Ahh well . Tomorrow is another day and all that..

They may not do anything useful but is it worth contacting Amazon to see if they will replace it?

Think it's 2 years out of warranty but it won't hurt to give it a try.

I'll have to get Mrs Shrimp to do it as it's her Amazon account.

FFS Weather. To get owt done in my garage needs the car out, car has crap battery and knacked autochoke/misfiring and idling issues. So that means motorbike out the way first and jump off the "good" car. Fumes everywhere and... Oh look, its raining AGAIN. Did I mention the car isn't watertight?

To get at anything, summat else has to be shifted first and the place is CHOCK FULL of old cardboard boxes filled with secondhand car spares that I hid away on the offchance that I'd need them, or they'd be worth a bit on eBay one day. I have multiple of the same thing x100 different parts, but usually in three totally separate places each.

Its all getting a bit too much for me to be honest, I don't want to lob out saleable stuff especially as Old Ford Tax is starting to kick in on a lot of it, but I haven't that much spare time and when I do get a chance to rifle through it all, it takes ages just accessing where it is.

Maybe a nice spell of decent weather will boost my motivation?

Sorry, we actually had sunshine in Wales today. It was so dry that most of the puddles on the driveway vanished! Most of them.

Get free Kindle app on your phone.

Loads of free books too. I use mine all the time, reading about 50 books ATM.

It's the bigger screen I want for stuff like Netflix and showbox. Books I just use my phone.

Got my eye on a spares car for my Tipo and Tempra, but the owner selling it seems to be in love with it and i feel slightly bad for intending to break it. Of course it's not worth anything to anyone else really, and its up to me what I do with it, so why does it feel painful to do?

I need to stop giving a shit about this really.

^^ AlabamaS.

Ahh, fair enough. I only use Kindle for books, not films. I use either phone or tablet.

I use books for books and a telly for films.  My phone is for, well, phone calls.  What am I, some sort of dinosaur?

Isn't this for a mk3?

Mk2 Festival. 1987 edition. Low spec narrow dash so no high level stereo mounting possible, but bespoke console so they could offer with the CTX transmission selector. Think I'll lob that one on eBay and see what happens.

Just do what I do and every time the garage gets full, build another shed and keep the garage accessable
