The grumpy thread

My insurance rang me the other day. Put my insurance premium up from 40 a month to 53 a month for a fault claim made against me in February last year and wanted to know why I didn't declare it. I didn't know about this fault claim and the only accident I've had was in the bloody van and that certainly wasn't a fault claim yet apparently it's on file against me.

Might just be an admin error? I had the same happen to me once, rung them up to explain the accident never happened and that was the end of the matter

been to lincoln today.

but lincolns nice, so how can it be a grump?

well where to start.....

weather was pleasant enough first thing, bright spells but otherwise overcast, but come 2pm, it was pissin' down with rain.

bloody great.

it then turns out that the mini has a water leak. but we found out where the water is leaking. its the heater matrix (an its a CONSTANT stream of water) so no wonder i could hardly see where i was going on the way home as the windscreen kept misting up.

finally get the car within half a mile of the lock-up and the throttle cable decides that it has hand enough of working and then either snaps or just parts company with the pedal. so the day was ended by the fookin' ungratefull twattin' POS mini been towed up to the lock up, and the little shit pushed inside.

the friggin' thing can stop there and think about its attitude.

so the current list is-

metro - broken it doesn't work so dumped on the drive under its cover. i've taxed it but think now i'm going to SORN it again and just get rid of it.

mini  - broken, it doesn't bloody work and dumped in the lock up BUT kerry knows someone looking for a mini so i'm hoping we can just get rid of it.

Rover 75 - still working but for how much longer? that fucker breaks and i'm just gonna dump it on the side of the road with the keys in the ignition.....

I'm wondering how this will all pan out seeing as Derby is on the list. Buses, taxis, my works van and numerous other delivery vehicles all diesel along with the audi, bmw, vw cars scattered across the city. Will also limit me from having a diesel in the future as i refuse to pay to get in and still pay the extortionate parking too.

apparently Middlesbrough is also on the list. it will be easy for me as its another bloody good reason NOT to go to the damn place.

Middlesbrough has one claim to fame, and that it is not as shit as Stockton.

and Stockton isn't as shit as Hartlepool......

Tried speaking to woman on phone about it but she was just saying over and over that the computer is right and nothing I can do. More information will be dug out about it though. Just pissed me right off.

So the government may look at a scrappage scheme for old diesel cars?

Do they not realise that people need 50mpg cars to get to their minimum wage zero hour jobs? How about stop taxing fuel to death you greedy twats?

It's part of the big plan to tax dizzle and pez off the road and persuade everyone to be good little taxpayers and lease a Toyosan Elektropinecone; once that happens it's 'achievement unlocked!!!11one!!' at the treasury, the chancellor breaks out his punishment dildo and fucks everyone with an electron molestation tax.

We could all go LPG! Maybe incentives to convert and save the planet.

Oh.

You can't all go LPG, many cars under 10 years of age can't be converted, most over won't be worth doing.

I sat behind a line of minibuses waiting in a London street last Tuesday. Some had been idling for more than an hour, this was outside someone's house. I already mentioned the parked Prius with its engine running presumably with fucked battery- why don't the twats sort this out before encouraging premature scrappage which in itself is environmentally unfriendly?

Surely the answer here is someone has entered the information wrongly onto the computer. It will be interesting to see what has been filed against you, probably a totally different vehicle in a completely different town but with a similar number plate or something

I've read about some diesel scrapper scheme, wether it will happen or not I dunno, but if it does ill buy the cheapest, most bridge worthy diesel I can find, and scrap it against a new dacia or summat if the numbers stack up!

Their not having my laguna though

What the FUCK is wrong with supposedly intelligent people these days?

A bloke at work, is married and has 2 small kids. They own 2 normal cars, a Golf and a 207. Nothing wrong with either.

They both work full time and that means £400 a month on Nursery fees.

His wife thinks he should get a newer car. More practical, bigger, perhaps an X3. He doesn't want to because her budget is too small, and "you can't buy a decent car under £20K these days"

By decent he means something with heated seats, leather, an 10 inch sat nav, and keyless entry, and less than 3 years old. Oh and 4 x4 for no reason other than "they tend to be bigger, and we need the space"

That my friends is someone about 30 years old working in the NEW klair industry with a Masters Degree.

Even the bloke in the office with a 17 reg 5 litre V8 Jag thought he was mad. (He's 65 and fucking loaded and only comes to work to fund 4 cruises a year)

Like you say 'supposedly intelligent'. He should tell her to fuck off. I see them all the time, brand new Audi on the drive on a PCP, can't afford to do go for a pint or have a holiday, so they're sat at home trying to find a new way of funding this mission to ensure other people think they are 'doing well'.

I'd make a point of going on at length about how little you spend on motoring.

If the numbers stack up... so you'd have to be spending £200 a month in repairs to offset the cost of paying the finance on a new xxxx...

No car should be costing you £200 a month in repairs, it wants chucking away if it does.

This is where my neighbour left his car last night, and he's not answering the door. Unbelievable

That would drive me utterly mad NC..

It's an offence to block someone's access to the highway, plain & simple.

That's ridiculous - that is clearly obstruction. Depending on how much of a hurry and how important my journey was he'd be at risk of finding his car "moved for him".

Posted

If that happened to more than once I'd cheerfully slash his tyres before setting off to work on my bike.

Posted

I wasn't planning on going out today, but that's besides the point since if I let him do it once he'll just keep doing it

Wasn't going to pay £200 a month, but if I can get a new duster or sandero for £80 a month with the deposit paid for then I'd possibly be up for that.

It won't happen though, and I'll have to get some amusing* scrapper scheme survivor for the gooner and xantia (which I still have...)

Two trolley jacks & a mate to help push...

I had some fucker who used to block me in one place I used to live, as I had two cars it didn't work. It worked even less after he blocked my Carlton in for the 'umteenth time & I used my Disco to drag his car 400 yrds down the road & left it in the middle of a busy junction.

I didn't see his car for days & he suddenly learnt to park after that too....

One trolley jack and spin it 90 degrees then call cops and say it's blocking the road !

Just answered the door at the third attempt and moved it. I have no plans to go out today, but if I let it slide once he'll do it again.

I bought a new battery for my parents in law's meriva. I was in a rush. More haste less speed. I chose haste.

The new battery fell off the front of the car where I had perched in and landed on its head. The positive terminal is pushed in and cracked the plastic casing. Some liquid came out. Not sure if it was acid or water and I chose not to taste it to find out.

Is it terminally broken (SWIDT?) or can I bung some gaffe tape over it? I bought them another battery, but I could maybe use the broken one on the allegro.

Btw, it's a 53 plate meriva with 14000 miles and totally immaculate.

Nottingham has a lot of electric buses. Trouble with me is I really don't like using the park and ride. No good for just nipping to motor factors or collecting a shonky lawn mower.

Very rarely would you need to go into a city centre to collect a lawnmower though, and there's motor factors out in the suburbs.

For me, P&R is perfect. Cuts down on town centre carparks and traffic, cheaper than parking, more relaxing.

£80 a month? You couldn't get a skateboard for that... that works out as a 10 year finance ageeement at 0%?

Some pay that a month in welding supplies alone!

Are they the same people who moan about everything made after 1st August 1992 was fucking wank and unreliable, but then go on about how they've spent the weekend rebuilding the cylinder head. Again.

All this baloney in the papers about 'Diesel Bans' boils my piss. Why?

1) It's not actually about banning diesels; it's about banning anything pre Euro 4 (2006).

2) How can it be tenable to use a series of standards which have been shown to be bollocks to be the foundation of any future legislation?

If they want to ban diesel's from many urban areas fair enough but to come up with some attendant phony petrol ban is ridiculous.

I am not sure if the French have the right idea or I have read it wrong, but they have brought in a licence system in Paris that every car that enters the city has to display a disc to show it's emission levels. The discs are about a fiver and thats it they stay with the car. Apparently on days when pollution is high they only let the cleanest of cars in. How this is policed I have no idea but you will get a fine if you don't have the disc which includes UK registered cars as well. I got one for the Porsche as we are off to France in the summer in it and will possibly end up in Paris so thought I better get one just in case. (They work out at about a fiver) I am assuming there will be signs on the roads into Paris to inform drivers of any restrictions. What the hell happens if you drive in on a day it is allowed and have to leave on a day it isn't is anyones guess.
