junk mail  you can tell it's election time when election candidates leaflets start coming through the letterbox instead of the usual pizza or shitey new indian resturant opening nearby... but whilst looking at the faces staring back at me from the leaflets it got me thinking why the hell i should bother voting!!just look at the candidates i have had so far belowLABOUR: Rushanara aliCONSERATIVES: Azir khanGREEN PARTY: Farid bakhtRESPECT PARTY: Abjol miahUNITED VOICE: Hasib hikmatas you will all note, a fine tradition of "british" family names to choose from.. but what do these people know of british values? unless they mean the values of todays britain.. which don't exist.if britain had the same policy as u.s.a does in becoming president you have to be born in the u.s.a then none of the above would be eligable to stand... the united voice candidate born and bred in the east end(of where??) has lived and worked in the community for the last 15 years. AMAZING! because i have never set eyes on him before.. ..take a look folks at britain going down the plug hole.

Thanks for all of your kind words of support. Mutha Claim seems to be on the mend but they are keeping her another night in hospital to be on the safe side. Luckily she had gone to A+E with a numb forearm when it happened so you could say she was in the right place for it to kick in properly.

How do you know that then? Does it state their place of birth?

Hey, arnie is governor of California and he wasnt born in the states.

That reminds me of the Dead Kennedys' song, "California Über Alles"!

Would you vote for them if they had nice snow white faces and names like yours, regardless of policies?

I had a letter from Unite union today who I'm a memeber of through my work telling me how i should be voting Labour as they do so much for us and how not to vote for Tory as they are the worse thing that can happen to the working man. It's actually made me a bit angry reading it, Kissing the arses of Labour, So i binned it.

Sounds like a case of 'so far so good' then. Good stuff.

New Labour haven't exactly been working their arses off to repeal the anti-union laws that Thatcher's government brought in. I'm not sure I want the country to be governed by any party, they've all got some policies that I disagree with enough to make me not want to vote for them.

That makes me grumpy. People who think other people can't possibly be british just because of their name. Good grief.Oh, that and the number of fuggin idiots around my area who seem to think the UKIP are offering salvation. Sadly seems to be quite a lot of them.

+111,692.7. Wtf has someone's name got to do with it?I'm in the union (just 'signed up' to be a rep actually) and got the same letter about voting Labour. I probably will anyhow to be honest.

I get the point, but, as said the name do not indicate Britishness, a friend of mine has the surname McDonald and has only lived in this country for 2 years..........Labour, death of businessesConservitive, seen as anti workerLiberals, seeen as pro Euro and in favour of taxing their way out of a problem........so thats Hobsons choices then? GREATYes I will be voting.

Posted

Well, I'll happily admit that there doesn't seem to be the best choice. Especially when 46% of my neighbours voted Tory last time.

I dunno why everyone is giving Maxpower a hard time, He has a valid point. Its hardly a neo-nazi statement is it?

Posted

I thought it was slightly unfair on maxpower as well, They wasn't the most english sounding of names TBH.

I dont think anyone was being judged, by their name or otherwise.

The implication was that there are no traditional British names in the line up, so im guessing it must be an area with a very high Asian population, maybe as high as 100%. There is obviously no itegration in this area, no "multiculturalism" This is Britian going down the plug hole. There was no implication of any of the candidates being unfit for the role because of their name or race.

Posted

S'funny. In my line of work 80% of the people I deal with on a daily basis are of Asian origin. Most of them are more pissed off about the state of this country than the 'whites' are.I've lost track of the number of times I've heard comments along the lines of "If everyone here put a bit of effort in, this could be the best country on earth"... from the Asians, and "Bloody immigrants stealing our jobs" etc, from the 'natives'.Perfect example is a friend of mine, local lad, Scouser born and bred who works hard, has his own business and doesn't do too badly. I was talking to him about a chap I know who's trying to start a car hire firm, about how this other chap has worked 18 hours a day for six or seven years to get everything in place to get it off the ground and how he's finally getting there. Scouse mate "Nice to know people are doing their bit, too many lazy bastards about. Good on him"Me "Yeah, he's a good lad, Zahir"Scouse mate "Fucking dirty P***!"I've not really bothered with the Scouse lad since. Can't be doing with racists.

So if there was white people living in Bethnel Green that would make everything ok?Its 37% white according to the 2001 census.I think we can consider it a zero-plughole area then?

If the area was more multicultural then yes, I think it would be better.Whats a zero plughole area anyway?
