The grumpy thread

Why are the majority of 'trades men' twats that just don't do what they say they'll do?

Today's example is what I thought would be a good new mechanic with a recovery truck.

He picked up my ST the other week on time and was really talkative about it (as he used to own one) said he restored some old Ford and how he was into them and was interested in my Fiesta. Gave us a card, ring him for anything, yeah he'd love to take a look at my car.

Two texts and one voicemail later he finally answers his phone saying "no I didn't get any messages but I'll ring you Monday morning to arrange to come weld a small bit on the Frontera exhaust and look at the water pump on the Fiesta"

Monday, 0900, no call. Ring him at about 1030. "sorry on a pick up job I'll be there at 0900 tomorrow to get your car and then go from there". We'll 1034 nothing, no even a call to say why.

What's the point of trying to support local businesses when they seem to be run by wankers.

TL:DR people are bastards

Does the cost vary according to how many pre-allocated points you chose?

I'm sure you have done the obvious and checked where you last used any of the cards contained in it and gone back to check if handed in.

A former colleague lost his wallet for over a year, it eventually turned up in the pocket of one of the site jackets hanging up in the office, not his own, but a spare that he must have used one day by mistake.

I last remember having it in my car and then taking it into the house.  I checked and nothing has been spent on it. Only 1 card in there and driving licence, plus halfords trade car etc.

I can only think it has been sucked into the land of lost socks .....

Mine lasted 2 days after it started doing that! Get a clip ordered now, you'll need some help fitting it with pushing the cable in and out, handing tools and being able to swear at someone

Not clicking just a rubbeery creak.

Forth road bridge is FUCKED though.

Ah you might be ok then. Mine did that the other day, scared the shite out of me but it's stopped now. 4 more days and I no longer need to be scared!

Tell me about it...

Currently sitting at bridge control on the south side waiting to see if they get it open again, the diversion route is a nightmare too so fuck that.

The bridges twitter feed is pretty good, they're moving the van now.

^^^ what happens in 4 days?

New car! I've not said what it is to add to the collection Fred mystery, but I think I'm being a bit shite at hoping people don't know...

I didn't reveal mine before the day either, yet I still got helpful suggestions of how to get there & why selling the goona en-route made sense...

I ended up going west, towards the Clackmannanshire Bridge. It was utter gridlock all the way to it, then the roundabout onto it was coned off so you could only go over the Clackmannanshire Bridge, they weren't letting anything travel north on the Kincardine Bridge.

I went up Glen Shee for the hell of it too, so I just got home about 15 minutes ago. That was a long day, but...

Worth it. I chased a Skoda Octavia towing an empty flatbed trailer from Glen Shee all the way to Aboyne. The guy was fucking going for it! LHM suspension works really well on those roads too.

Cue some upside down in the footwell action and a bloody big crowbar to lever the brake pedal out the way,  think I took the drivers seat out last time I did one

I managed it without the seat out, but did need Tabact to help pull me up from under the dash when I wedged myself in.

The metal spring clip is a proper, proper proper bastard, ill warn you now!

Bloody windows 10 is been configuring and updating for an hour now, I turned it on so the kids could do their damn homework. I wonder if people using them in an office bill Microsoft for the wasted time every time it happens, can't even crash out of it and book up Ubuntu in case it eats itself :(

Posted in the grin thread about starting a job yesterday but unfortunately it hasn't worked out. When applying I thought it was going to be something you were called on as and when, instead it's about 60 hours a week and you cannot leave until the work is complete. Next week they want to start at 6am, which would mean me getting up at 4, which with a college course in progress just isn't viable. Today I was trying to park a LWB Boxer in between two others and after 6 or so attempts I couldn't even get close and had to ask someone else to do it, so failed that part of the assessment. So I'll just ring them tomorrow morning and explain I can't continue, leave it off my CV and get back on with the search.

∆∆∆ That sounds like a bummer, commiserations Mr Creep. It's been a long time since I worked for someone (as opposed to being self employed), but I wouldn't want to go back to it.

health and safety at work act 1974 says its the employers duty to ensure you have had relevant training or instruction- ergo someone should have made sure you know how to deal with a lwb boxer

NatWest bank, the fuckers are never open, used to open Saturdays and stopped opening Saturdays and informed me by letter 3 weeks later.

Yesterday I dropped Money in to the night deposit box at 8.30 in the morning, the manager walked past just as I was doing this and said good morning to me, I would assume the box gets opened at 9.30 or 10 or whenever they can be bothered to empty it.

The money isn't showing, the deposit box has a key that's a shit fit and you are supposed to open the draw again to check it dropped, I didn't

I'm thinking it's stuck in the box or they couldn't be arsed to empty the box or someone else depositing has been tempted to nick it as it didn't drop

Meh...

On the induction they said never be afraid to ask for assistance if you can't reverse something, but as soon as I did they got shirty. Would have thought it was better to do that than just carry on and damage two brand new vans, but there you go. Back to the search.

Brother the Princess called earlier. He has no luck with cars, sometimes self inflicted like topping the brake fluid up with water because he thought that was the radiator fill.

Anyway he has a Peugeot 807 which needs an exhaust, he tells me this has to come from the main dealer as it is the only place that has them.

He also has a pair of dead 206CCs, one has been standing for about the months, needs a battery out on it to see what is wrong.

The other one he was using until it came up with an EML on Monday. He booked it into the garage today but when he went to take it the front spring has snapped and is stopping the wheel rotating.

So he is using my Dad's ex-pbk Volvo, he can't swap insurance again until July as they got shitty with his last change (onto the 807 as a fourth change) earlier in the year.

I'm going to look at them on Saturday, hopefully can get one 206 running. Families eh?
