Sorry to hear of your dad's passing fordperv.

My grump - sitting in an immobilised Espace waiting for Autoaid. Third time in eight months. Symptoms - no engagement of the starter motor when the start button is pressed.

UPDATE: car started with a jump. Recovery bloke noticed earth lead was very hot. Checked battery with a multimeter when I got home (car running) - 13.1V. Vive la Renault electriques!

A young girl in the town got this Mk4 Escort 1.6 GL for her 21st birthday in December...

Early Thursday it was stolen off her drive and found this morning in a nearby village...

Double check your security measures guys, don't become another statistic.

Shit, that scenario must be depressingly familiar for you.

Note to self: Do NOT move to the same area where trigger is.

Sorry. That's an utter pisser, though. Why even steal a 1.6 GL though? Is it just because older car = easy to steal?

Round here, they leave the shite alone. Instead, they break into people's houses and steal the keys for the brand new Range Rovers / Audi S4s etc. on the drive.

There just seems to be a epidemic of old cars getting stolen, there was also a Orion broken into in Felixstowe last night but thankfully they didn't start it, I'm guessing it's because they are a easy target and I'm hearing about them as i run a large local retro car club.

What's the chances it was the same oxygen thieves that did your Astra, Trigger?

Posted

I don't think so, this is out of their 'patch' and it was AWOL for too long before being torched. There has been several other cars locally burnt out which could have been them again though.

Just had some mega-spanner getting his wife to ring about my car. Her first question was asking my 'final price' which obvs. got my back up straight away. Even more annoyingly I could hear this turd truffler telling her what to ask, winds me up that.

Anyhow eventually he came on the phone and asked me five fucking times what my final price was so I've just told him no offers and put the phone down on him.

That's shit about that Escrote :(

You could get into them with half a tennis ball though, so not a secure car.

Was it stolen for parts? Looks like doors are off and rear bumper. Crying shame whatever the reason. Poor lass, nice thing to have at 21 as well :(

Doors are there and i think the bumpers been ripped off. I'm guessing it was joyridden and then torched where it died, right next to someones home...

I get so mad when I see pointless destruction like that.  A lovely example of a car that has survived 30yrs, to be ruined by mouth breathing scum.  I drive a crap old Astra, but do put its Disklok on every night.

I don't get it either. What pleasure can these losers get from destroying something? Pointless people.

I hope they get what they deserve, horrible thing to happen.

You'd hope karma would catch up with them one day.  As supernaut said above, old chod seems to be more or less left alone where I live.  You're more likely to have a new Range or Merc nicked by someone breaking in and stealing the keys.  At least modern stuff is more easily replaced, but it's hardly a comforting thought.

edit- unless you own a Land Rover Series/ 90/ 110/ Defender of course.  A lovely 50s Series 1 went missing from just down the lane from me, apparently taken away on a trailer (it was a non-runner), never to be seen again

They're destroying potential forensic evidence/ finger prints.

Like the police would bother unless it was used in a 'serious' crime

Had a Notice of Intended Prosecution through for 82 in a 60.

Last Sunday at 20:33 in Norfolk, I haven't been to Norfolk in about 10 years so looks like I've had my plate cloned AGAIN

Now trying to figure out if I actually have an alibi..

Did they send a photo yet? Could it be a foreign plate they have camera'd?

Would I've never visited Norfolk as I'm scared of meeting Bernard Matthews do as an alibi?

No they apparently don't release the photographic evidence unless you contest the ticket (which seems a bit backwards in a supposed innocent until proven guilty system) but I have rounded up at least a dozen witnesses willing to sign affidavits that I (and my car) were 100 miles away at the time of the alleged offence. I also used my debit card 100 miles away within 2 hours of the offence but I suppose they could contest that'd still possible (especially if you were speeding)

It's just shit because A) someone is out there with my plates on up to who knows what, B) I now feel like the guilty one trying to prove his innocence, I think I'm gonna report the fact someone has cloned my plates to the non emergency number tomorrow as a crime in its own right

Last time it happened it was clear cut because they'd impounded the vehicle (hence writing to me) and it was fairly obviously not me by virtue of the fact I was still in possession of my car.

Obviously I expect the police to be nothing less than disinterested, but I got to unexpectedly listen to 'it wasn't me' again by shaggy, so it's clawed a shit situation back a little bit.

My 'mate' has been back on about the Civic.

'Can I come down immediately to buy car?'

I'm going out now sorry, won't be back until about 10.00am.

'Oh, ok, I'm in Manchester and I'm at work now until mid-day, I'll call you then'

I should have just said to come down right now.

What's the policy on closing complete sections of motorways in this country?

M40 section closed, then the M42 and then the M6, and about 30 miles onward, the M53. I drove alongside and couldn't see anyone doing any work on it.

Drove from Surrey to NW, and this added on 3 hours to journey driving round A roads. The worst bit was in the West Midlands, finally getting back on, then immediately getting diverted off. So frustrating, and must be worse for HGV's. I was following a Kingsmill van and he was absolutely nailing it round country lanes, obviously had to meet a delivery.

The music charts have always been a bit shit, but at least they used to have variety

Even he (Sheeran) said it was a bit of a joke.

Is this because they now count downloads and people buy songs as opposed to albums?

Turned the central heating to manual to dry some clothes yesterday, accidentally left it on all night and only just realised now. That'll have eaten up a fair amount of gas and the house is still only sitting at 18C after 16 hours of the heating being wound to max...
