Yep, my phones broken, good thing I kept my old one.Its insured, so hopefully vodafone wont play the 'Apple' card and simply blame it on water damage. Even though it probably was that, I didnt throw it into a puddle.

You got the same phone as me haven't you? I'm on my 6th one now and even that's causing me problems...grrrr......and I can't bloody sleep either, good job I'm back at work on Tuesday instead of today. I'd need to be up in half an hour from now.

Norton Antivirus. I hate it twofold.

In my humble opinion, it behaves rather strangely for a piece of 'protection software'.

Norton, How I Hate Thee: Despair Parameters

1. It installed itself without my knowing.

2. It hides itself away and doesn't appear immediately on the Add \ Remove Programs list.

3. It detects other, better virus software (i.e. Avast) as a threat (wonder why that is? )

4. It claims to show you lots of faults 'for free' and will only fix them by spending $70-odd on a license copy. Well, thanks for telling me, I've just removed them for free with Avast.

So, stealth maccinations, being elusive, claiming better things if you sign up for an extortionate amount - remind you of anything? Empirically, these things do not lead me to believe Norton is benign.

5. When you uninstall it (after finding it) you can't rid yourself of the sodding thing without filling in a survey (like work) that's extremely po faced (like work) and doesn't give you any options to say what you actually think (like work). They don't give a flying fuck anyway (like work).

6. Instead of just ridding itself from your system, it then takes you to a sales screen, and that stupid woman appears, bleached teeth et al, informing you that there might be VIRUSES and SPYWARE on your system! Oh noes!!!!

Physician, heal thyself.

Oddly enough, when I last visited the ancestors, their 6-month-old Norton-equipped PC was properly infested - I even had PM warnings from a couple of forums about it. Meanwhile, my 5-year-old creaking hulk remains utterly devoid of viruses, thinks to freely-downloaded software (Avast)

Go to the Symantec/Norton website and download the removal tool!

Go to download.com and get c cleaner.Great for getting rid of shit like Norton.

Posted

C cleaner is a seriously awesome tool, way more effective than windows' housekeeping stuff.

Would it not be easier to reverse in? Or are you doing that already?

Their Defragmenter is too.Never personally used CCleaner to remove Norton products though.

I have just spent the last god knows how long trying to fit the Maestro van into my garage. A Maestro van isn't exactly huge especially compared to most modern cars, it is now inside the garage finally with the door shut. To achieve this, most of the contents of the garage are now inside the van. Due to the clever up and over door the van has to be further forward, otherwise the door fouls the roof of the van when closing, which means getting out of the van and pushing it the last bit. Not sure how long I shall put up with this, anyone want to buy a Maestro van?

Ah, I remember this one well. When we lived in a house with a garage (attached, rather than at the end of the street!), I sold my car and got a company van... as Mrs_Pog can't park for shit, there was no point putting her car in the garage as she would only scrape it and / or complain profusely about getting it in/out, so I thought I'd put the van in at night. Couldn't go in forwards, because my tool drawers and worktop meant you couldn't go far enough forward to close the door, and putting it in backwards meant all the 'stuff' that usually hung from the rafters like bikes, ladders & hoo-ha had to go somewhere else, i.e. be moved every time you wanted to get the van out. Arseache, total, so I gave up and left it outside.

I think you're misunderstanding the meaning of "protection"

Norton does seem virus/spyware-like to me too. I always uninstall the free trial of Norton on new computers immediately.

Edit- is Avast better than AVG? I'm finding AVG a bit resource-hungry these days.

I prefer Avast! in conjunction with SuperAntiSpyware and Spybot Search & Destroy.

After years of no protection whatsoever ive now got a licenced copy of Kaspersky via a friend who got it free with his bank , have to say it seems to work well , not the least intrusive , regular updates and went nuts when i clicked on something on Google that was plainly vitus laden , it was free anyway so what the hell

Luckily she's not to hand.... although thanks to the modern age we live in, I can be nagged at and hassled remotely! Brilliant! Whoever invented the internet was clearly single.

To the silly old fool who pulled out of the doctors surgery into my path earlier without looking - well done. You obviously thought a 53 year old drum braked car could stop on a sixpence and give way to you in your shitty SAAB as you needed to get out of the doctors and get to some urgent appointment. As it was he seemed surprised when I screeched to a halt three feet from his bumper and blew my horn, if I'd been going any faster than 30mph I would have hit him. Some people eh :roll:I know it's been mentioned before, but making drivers over, say, 70 retake their test - this guy was in his mid 70's - good idea?

some old biddy just drove straight at me in the retail park the other day. She was looking sideways at the car parking spaces and not at all in the direction she was driving!

I reckon that 99% of the people in a car park, drivers and pedestrians have switched off and got their mind on other things, like the ones who push their trolley behind you as you're trying to reverse and the old girl who nearly wiped you out. Some of them switch on again when they leave the car park....but not all!!

Jeez - I try not to tar any group with the same brush but I've had so many near misses with old giffers. Last week I was cycling, approached a roundabout with offset exit to go straight, signaling like a bitch and yet still I find a maroon micra creeping closer to my left rear 3/4! Would've been knocked off if he wasn't going so slowly.I'm like: "wtf are you DOING?!? - can you actually see?" he and his old bit of stuff looked as shocked as can be - I mean, I'm wearing a hi vis yellow jacket ffs, looking like a nuclear waste worker glowing like the sun, how much more visible do I need to be? This old giffer didn't even look - just went, I was practically in front of them when he pulls out. My Grandad who's 80 odd still drives ( :x ) he is the classic 'rev the nuts off it and toast the clutch' - even starting off going down hill. He buys a brand new Golf every three years (!) as he doesn't want to MOT it. He clocks up a grand total of about 7K miles a year if that - these Golfs are barely run in when he trades them in. Of course, there's the obligatory dings and scuffs on every corner - he drives around with my other G-dad who doesn't drive and reports have it that he has on occasion dinged other parked cars and drives off blissfully unaware.... Only last month there was a big smash on the M8 in Glasgow. An old boy had traveled up the wrong lane. In the news the wifey was all: "George couldn't have caused this - he is such a careful driver etc.." now this month a report tells that he has 'decided to give up driving'... 'bout time George.

My granddad (the one I like  ) is 79, he still drives his 2006 Subaru Justy G3X with a huge amount of dings and scratches, but only 4000km a year thankfully. He knows that his driving isnt as good as it was 30 years ago. He often tells me that he feels overstrained by todays traffic, but he can´t give up driving because otherwise my grandparents wouldn´t be able to go anywhere. There is not much public transport in the area where they live, they even wouldn´t be able to go to the local supermarket without the car. Some month ago he got a phonecall by the police, they said some one phoned the police because he scratched another car in a parking spot. He didn´t even notice. :?

I do feel something needs doing about old giffer drivers , my pop is 76 and does drive rather well but the wifes late dad was scary , he had a Juice green Mundano with 28k on the clock that looked like it had been banger raced a few times , made even worst by his aerosol spray repairs .Front bumper was held on with a dozen zip ties , poor car

My wife's Grandmother was apparently very scary. Didn't really pass her test as she was so old there wasn't actually one. Would stop on motorway slip roads and wait for a gap, and had a habit of reversing around roundabouts if she missed her turn. In a Rover SD1! Family were very pleased when she finally quit driving (IIRC, she asked the local butcher to arrange for the sale of the car!)Yet statistically, old folk are still safer than young'uns! I've certainly had my fair share of old giffer moments (the chap driving the wrong way around a roundabout was exciting) but when recalling near-miss moments, I can't really say that old folk are more of an issue than younger people (like the 30-ish year old male who almost drove straight into my Renault on Friday for instance - just wasn't looking where he was going at all!)
