No, I'm complaining at you characterising it as 'free'. We all pay for it

I was on about the flu jab as I have to pay for it if I want it.

People who are at risk of serious illness if they catch the flu don't have to pay for a flu jab, I don't know why anyone else would get the flu jab.

Having a mate who does garden maintainance is good as often I get free wood.Rotten wooden sheds and fence paanels mainly as I think he sells  the logs from felled trees.Anyway when the wood-shed is nearly full I often give half my deliveries to my nextdoor neighbour. My neighbour has put in for a council bungalow as his wife is no longer able to climb stairs so his own wood pile is depleted.

A couple of weeks ago he mentioned the low stock so I said he could have some of the stack I have out front that I hadn't moved in the summer as a family of mice were living there.Didn't notice until the next morning but he'd taken the lot....Nice.

Monday this week I got another delivery so took less than half and stashed it around the back.I then went nextdoor and told him he could have what's out front.I then told him my car might be home sometime during the day Tuesday as I needed to buy a new suit for my dad's funeral which was Friday morning.

So yesterday afternoon I arrive home around 3pm all suited and booted and before I could get the key in the door my neighbour appears.Bearing in mind he has gas central heating and is in his 70's so has recieved his winter heating allowance his first words were "I haven't got any wood, you know" yeah, great I really wanted to hear that.

Turns out when I asked for part time they tight that meant I wanted to only work one day a week. Asked the boss* the other day can I have more shifts please. But it's Saturday again and I don't know what I'm working next week...

Is it just me or is he asking for exactly what I've just told him? Or is he a total fuckwit?

I think, pal, that he's a bit of a fuckwit, pal.

Why aren't insurance companies open on a weekend?

I and then travel to retrieve my car after paying £150 for seizing it, and £150 per day for storage (an arse fuckingly unbelievable £600).

1 cos theyre cunts

2 storage fees are usually between 10 and 20 a day not 150 quid - had an (ex cop ironically) bike seized as it hadnt been taken off the pnc and turned into a civvie bike (still had the number on the plate under the reg)

100 quid to cough then it was 12 quid cos it was there 1 day

ins co admitted the fuck up and paid that and 100 quid to me due to lost day at work pita etc

Posted

I'm sure the copper said £150 a day, which really didn't surprise me. £20 per day is better.

I'm going back to one daily and a project car and cancelling the trade insurance - it's working out to at least £20 per month per car for tax, on top of £105 for insurance. £185+ per month for the privilege of never using them, it really adds up. I've bought three cars this year and not since June.

Exactly what I thought then. He calls people pal in real life all the time and it's really annoying. You don't call customers pal, mate or anything else equally as stupid

Posted

I read that as you saying "for now " but he wanted definite days. But, yes, being called pal is rather annoying.

I might be wrong but the way I'm reading it you start by saying all except Weds and Thurs, then you say "looks like" all days.

I think "for now it looks like" could seem a bit vague; and I'm not getting at you because I have a habit of saying "I think" or similar (looks like) when what I mean is "I know".

Next time you see him say: "I can do... I can't do..." Don't offer any room for confusion/interpretation.

If you were saying "it looks like" because you aren't sure if something will come up, then I'd say be definite to start and then cross the bridge of changing if and when.

I've just had one of my cars seized because I didn't have the trader's policy insurance certificate and the police couldn't get through. If the cunting police officer had allowed me to drive to my garage (or at least let them drive me) and retrieve said document, he would've seen I'm entitled to drive a car owned or used with permission from the owner. Unfortunately, I have to wait until Monday before I can sit in a car and I now have to take Monday off, take my certificate down to the police station, get them to stamp my form, and then travel to retrieve my car after paying £150 for seizing it, and £150 per day for storage (an arse fuckingly unbelievable £600).

The copper was in the wrong

Mine was seized on a Sunday night but yours was in office hours. Correct procedure would be to ring your insurance company

Problem is most coppers don't know anything about trade insurance, why they haven't been trained in this is beyond me

Read my bit in 'breadvans legal shop of horrors'

The update on this is I got a letter last week asking me if I wanted to go to court for no insurance or pay a fixed penalty

I opted to go to court as I did have insurance and am legally allowed to ask for my costs back

I'm sorry bren, your superiors are utter cunts and the way its all done makes you lot look really bad

A HORT1 would have been appropriate.

I've said it before, this applies to everybody. Go get your insurance certificate NOW - fold it into a square, tape it to your licence and put it in your wallet. You cannot rely on the traffic police to be reasonable. I will not speculate on the reasons why, just go and do it. This is how it is now.

The last time you said that I thought "that's a good idea", but didn't do it. I've done it now though. When I got the Volvo it took about three weeks to appear on the MID and the promised documents by email took forever too. Luckily I wasn't driving it much or it would be a washing machine by now.

I've sucessfully argued this point with two traffic officers who wanted to sieze my car - it wasn't on the MID because of a typo and I didn't have my certificate on me, and it was a sunday evening. I just insisted that I was insured and could prove it on monday, and refused to admit any possibility that I wasn't covered, because I was. Eventually one of them went back to the car to look for the HORT/1 forms and came back with a fresh (still wrapped) pad.

Bugger rereading it I meant only Wednesday and Thursday this week but then he knows that as a month ago I gave up a sheet with all the days I could do, I assume he lost it.

Same as he know I want full time as I said it to his face last week. You're right though next time I will spell out exactly what I want. I was trying not o be pushy as I'm supposed to be on a 3 month trial but then who knows...

I don't get this - seems like the police are making up the law. The law says you have to have insurance, which you do, and be able to produce proof within seven days, which you could. I don't believe the law requires you to be on MID nor carry your certificate, whatever the police might think. Innocent until proven guilty is a fundamental part of our system - again, whatever the police might like to think.

Seems like you have a very good case to sue for all of the costs back, plus inconvenience? But what do I know, maybe Mr Breadvan can offer slightly more accurate suggestions...

Nope, I posted on there when I had mine seized but had no answer......

I've been stopped driving stuff not on MID in the past - both times because they came up as uninsured. Both times I gave the cops details of a couple of cars registered to me that were on MID. They checked them, presumably saw I was insured and were happy enough. I know that the same thing has happened to another trader I inow.

We had a similar issue with our works van - it was on the fleet insurance policy. None of the buses were on the MID but never get stopped 'cos class 6 MOTs aren't computerised. The number of times I got stopped in that sodding Sherpa was unbelievable.

Just as well it never got inspected really 'cos you could check the front tyre tread depths from inside the cab.

Brushroll or motor works intermittantly? Brushroll worn? Brushroll bearings seized?
