Not really a grumpy moan but i was just in the VW garage getting a pinch bolt for my Passat when i over heard to salesmen talking.It seems that Volkswagen had just sent a bloke all the way from Portugal to just check two nuts on a new Eos they had, Apparently Volkswagen wouldn't let the garage register it without them being checked by VW first, So this bloke turns up, spend 2 minutes checking to nuts and flies back again, It was the only car in the UK to be checked.Even the other salesmen was questioning to why they couldn't have done it.Also saw my first '10' plate car, Looks a bit odd to me without a '0' in front, Bit like it's trying to spell a word, the one i saw was 'AY10 ***'.

IMHO the system is stupid full stop. If some clueless moron gets conned into buying a car which is older than they think it is then isn't that just people getting what they deserve?In my native western Australia the system is like this 1AAA111 and it just ticks over like an odometer and any car can wear any plate so you could buy a car today and get an old plate put on it or get a model t and have a new plate put on it. Also eliminates the look at me I've got the new plate!!!!!!!! fools you always see around at changeover time.

Imagine all those poser-wannabes with really crap lookalike plates being gutted after forking out for their special plate, only for it to be free to have whatever you like.Would put a stop to plate-raping too.

Fucking speed humps and road engineering!!!!Whilst out trucking today I encountered more than my fair shair of these useless aids to "traffic calming" and decided to do an experiment:I reset the trip computer in my 18 ton Daf at the begining of the three quarter mile "humped" road and drove as normally, the result? 2.1 MPG!!!! in a truck that normally does 11 mpg easily. HOW FUCKING DARE the politicians tell us to drive 5 less miles a week when they engineer the roads in such an enviromentaly unfriendly way! Here's an idea... Teach kids the green cross fucking code and road safety from an early age.If you insist on puttting speed humps down then buy the deflating or retracting ones where you can maintain an average speed then, and only then, can you two faced pricks tell me to drive less miles a week.Also combined traffic/pedestrian lights that turn red to let "invisible pedestrians" cross the road at 4 in the fucking morning stopping traffic in all direction while they cross! If you are too stupid to push a button on a crossing then you deserve to be run over.Sorry! Rant over. For now......

Ive never understood speed bumps. If you were to hit them doing the legal speed limit of 30 MPH you would soon wreck your car. Wheres the sense in that? What about all the road springs that crack and break or the tyres that are damaged without the car owner noticing that contribute to accidents? I read that when speed bumps were first introduced a taxi driver did some legal swatting up and found they were totally illegal. A case was mounted against the governemnt which would have resulted in every speed bump being removed at massive expense, however the government cheated and changed the law.

Thing is round my way, which is the mong capital of Devon, most people seem to go over the speed hump slowly then its full on the gas before braking hard for the next one ansd so on. Strikes me the most dangerous place to be is just after a hump, where the mindset is throttle, throttle and more throttle. And safer just before the hump because they are braking, but they wont notice you because they are too busy looking at the speed hump as it is mighty distracting, and might rip bits off thier car. Instead of just rolling along at a safe speed ready in case a child or whatever runs out. Those staggered bollard things are just as bad, we have them outside a local school. People try to beat each other so they dont have to wait, or just come charging through if they are driving an X5 or some other wank mobile...and walking to school down that stretch of road with two kids is a nightmare.....you might as well be running through giant swinging blades. Fucking road safety.....arseholes....

Have noticed that on certain junctions the lights just change to red for no reason, and you can see there's nothing on the road at all, as for road bumps we have some of those horrible square ones, I know of one village that had some, but seem to have vanished, must had some sort of petition to get them removed.Don't forget potholes, would it be possible to spend some of the £40 or so billion raised from VED to be actually spent on the roads??
