Me and my wife were told on Friday that our newborn son has Down syndrome.

While I Cannot say that I will be able to buy the best things in life for him, he will not be short of love and affection.

My wife is one of 3 children, she's the eldest, her sister one year younger is Down syndrome, her next born sister isn't.

She is now 42 years old and has been living independently for the last 15 years and shares a house with two other Down syndrome adults, she has a fantastic life, she has been and done everything.

There are introvert/extrovert and ones in between but they can have a good quality of life in this modern age

Good to see positive examples, but....

Sorry to be pedantic, but she may HAVE Down's syndrome, she IS NOT Down's syndrome. Any more that a very fat person IS diabetes. Or a drunk IS alcoholism. (Or I AM twat) :-)

My Mrs works with people who have learning disabilities, and these little subtleties have been drummed in :-)

PERSON with a disability, not a DISABLED person. See?

Sorry to hear about your newborn Bren. Just give him the best quality of life you can. Virtual love and encouragement sent to you right now.

I aren't good with words especially when people really need them. All I can say is I'm sure everything will be OK in the end. Me and everyone else on here are always here to help if needed

I think people with downs syndrome are the loveliest people on the planet. No joke. They always seem to be kind and loving souls and there's not enough of that around.

Manager at work just called me and woke me up at 7:30 on a bank holiday. "Collegues have to work two bank holidays and you were down to work today. I've had to send someone out with your load".

I pointed out he'd woken me up, and suggested that maybe someone tell me I'm down to work today, as no one did and the whole day was crossed out on the rota, so I assumed there were no deliveries today. So, looks like I've got to brave the rain and work this afternoon instead.

Bloody annoying. I hate this place and can't wait to finish uni so I can get out of here.

GGS, sorry to hear this fella. Lots of support on here as and when needed. Fingers crossed for your Ma.

For whatever reason (I am not at all religious) you and your Mrs have been chosen Bren. Both been chosen to have one of lifes most honest superstars.

Hadn't realised you were expecting a little one Bren, many congratulations to you and Mrs Bren.

I'm sure you have a support network, but don't forget we'll be here if you need to get something off your chest :)

Wife took the 75 to Asda, parked in a parent and child space (yes we have a wee one) Can back and some arsehole has smashed the indicator on the wing clean off and pushed the wing in a little bit. Raging is not the word.

Sorry, i had not read the few posts above, mine somehow now seems a little unimportant.

Raining.  Must be BHM.  No shite-tinkering today, then...

Congratulations on the little one Bren! It'll be hard work, frustrating, tiring but ultimately the most rewarding thing in the world. I think that's true with or without DS - sounds like you've got the perfect attitude and your little one is very lucky indeed

The normally lovely Polish family next door appear to have gone away for ??

Mum and little girl haven't been seen for a couple of days, older son and daughter not in. There is a woman and young son staying with the family but they were not around either.

Not normally an issue but the family have two dogs, one is a boy terrier 5 years old+ and a 11 month old puppy.

We were woken this morning around 06.30hrs by howling dog. This went on and off for a couple of hours. I knocked and left a note but nothing happened. More howling but it sounded then like it was indoors.

I just popped to the shops and came back to find Mrs. PBK knocking next door and getting no reply. It has been raining all day and the terrier was soaking, hungry and tired. No sign of the pup so we presume she went with her owner.

Fence panel lifted and the terrier has a new play space now. He's been dried and fed. We are not very happy, although he is.

Don't know how people can do that. If you go out at least leave the dog some food and fresh water, a kennel is not that expensive FFS. Grrrrrrr

How many times can you tell the same person you don't know what fucking gearbox is in your car?

Went over a speedbump in Aberdeen on Friday and my centre exhaust mount gave way, exhaust is now supported by the back axle and makes a fucking awful clanging noise on anything other than a smooth surface. On the 50 mile drive back from Aberdeen this morning I countered this by turning the radio up but a more permanent solution will have to be implemented...

I'm not a dog (or cat) person, but can't understand how people can mistreat animals without conscience. Call local dogs home, rspca ? If they don't come back tomorrow.

Looks like the person supposed to be house sitting and dog sitting has also gone back to Poland. Seems like someone is being sent over today. We will monitor.

In the meantime he is fed, watered, dry and warm. Also had a good brushing :)

He's named Lucky. I doubt we will be keeping him but he seems like a good pooch :)

I've just been well and truly 'shown up'! Jo came round and instantly went to my fridge and started pulling everything out of it. The state of it has been bothering her since Friday apparently!

All the shelves out, bleached, washed and polished and then all put back in and then she attacked the bathroom and the kitchen sink.

I am ashamed of myself :(

Bought loads of bleach (2 for 1) and kitchen roll (2 for 1) now and also a huge bunch of roses (I think, could be daisy's for all I know) for her.

Tomorrow is the first of September.

Whaaaaat?

It was July yesterday and May was about 3 weekends ago, no?

Dark at 9pm.... nights drawing in..... soon be Christmas..... grumble grumble moan etc.

In other news I took the Metro out for a spin yesterday and had a single key for something important in my pocket. Its just straight-up disappeared. In the seat, under the seats, under the mats....nope, its just fucking gone.

I've just become one of them fucking ebay idiots.

Bike advertised as having 12 months mot but clearly been stood for a long while.

question I asked: Does it run?

Well of course it fucking does, it's got 12 months mot and for sale as a runner.

What I meant to ask was "as it's clearly been stood for a long while, how well does it run?"

But i didn't. So now he'll think i'm an illiterate twat who either can't read or can't be bothered to read his description.

I hate ebay idiots, and now I am one. Shame on this house. :(

I keep eyeing up the wood burner, but it's been no where near cool enough yet. Won't be long though :)

Is the handbrake still working?

I keep eyeing up the empty space where my wood pile should be - better get a shift-on with that over September.

Yeah, me too. Best get a move on because all the cheap wood goes quick as soon as it gets cold.
