All these people grumping about being back at work. What's wrong with you all, don't you want to get paid so you can buy more horrible old cars/maintain* the current ones?

The problem is I can't afford anything interesting nowadays. I will have to settle for fixing the ax for the time being.

Yesterday the dog snaffled most of the remaining Christmas cake so we had to get her to the vets for a puking injection. So savings took another hit.

Stupid ST has got a broken handbrake making the back drives side stick on. I can't fix that :-(

Took it to the garage. Might be £55 might be £110 their not sure as no one knows how many cables it's got

Since when is an AX not interesting?

Got a card from the post office demanding £11 odd for import duty. £3ish duty, £8 robbing bastard fee.

I know there's no charges under £15. Item was $22.50, which the interwebs tells me is £14.77. FAQ says think we're robbing bastards? Pay up, then tell us why on this form.

Anyone want to place bets that customs has an official exchange rate of eleventy million pounds per dollar?

Next doors cats.... Whilst I quite like cats, and the ones from next door are both black and cute they are bastards.

They antagonise my dog, shit in the garden and kill my pond fish! Am an animal lover and wish them no harm really, but FFS. Mrs B was cleaning out her car yesterday and one of the cats jumped in and hid somewhere. Mrs B realised this after driving off to work and had to return home with a noisy cat in the car. Late for work!

Dog owners are deemed to be responsible for their pets. Not so for cats it seems. Grump.

I would of taken the cat to work and let it out there. Aren't cats supposed to find their way back home or something. I am sure it only did it for the challenge

Not really sure that it would survive the M65/M55 journey alone.... :-)

Failed miserably to replace the blown dipped headlight bulb in daughter's C3, an hour down the drain and only mutilated hands to show for it.

The other two bulbs are easily accessible.

Came home (only across the road) and my son gets up (nightworker) and informs me that one of mine is out on the C5.

I think you're confusing cats with pigeons there.

Yes yes, but do you have two mischievous black cats living next door?

My GF offered her 1 year old laser printer for free on FB, some girl she knows snapped it up within 8 seconds. Then no response for 3 days on when she is collecting the damn thing, eventually today she gets in contact to ask what cartridges it takes?? Well if you ever collect the soddin thing it tells you on the box, besides it already has ink in it.

She turns up eventually saying ' Hi im parked up the road in the car'.......... Yeah and, lost the use of your legs?? So my GF had to carry the printer up the road for her.

I wish it was mine she would have been told to FRO and go and buy a new one for £50+ there and then!

No.

Well, kind of.

I want to work a job that I WANT to do, not a job that I have to do because bills need paid and there is no other choice. Unfortunately, I dont know what I WANT to do.

Even in Primary school, when the class would get asked what we wanted to be when we grew up, everyone would say...farmer....space man...nurse....truck driver....vet....police man etc and I would shrug and say "dunno". 30-odd years later that hasnt changed.

Todays grump - first full day back at work and I was cutting trees down. Playing with chainsaws and stuff should be fun, but I lack the energy for it these days - Need to make a proper effort to get fitter.

Anyway, I was using the Land Rover as a ground anchor with a steel cable to pull the trees as they all leaned the wrong way. I would hook the cable round the trunk as high up as I could get, hook the other end to the towbar and draw forwards to take up the slack, then make the cuts at the base of the tree, but not go right through, then let rip with the Land Rover to pull the tree over so it fell the right way. Easy enough, except the wet grass soon turned to mud and even with knobbly tyres I was having troubles. While manoeuvring, I made the mistake of putting a wheel into a section where the earth has been turned, ploughed and rotovated for a veg garden so is very soft. Scrabbling on the grass, it slipped sideways down the hill fully into the soft ground where it bogged right down to the floorpan. It drove out eventually, but I made a right mess of the place. The prop shaft bearings got clagged in mud and since they are forged from pure Chinesium, will no doubt start rumbling in a day or two.

On the subject of dogs.....

Stayed up all night cuddling my mutt 'cos today was the day for her big op and I was scared. She slept like a baby and snored in my ear all night. I did try to go to sleep, but no fookin' chance. Took her over for 9:00 and then it sort of went wrong. They didn't have the metalwork needed in stock (ECP overnight?) so just sedated her and took loads of x-rays. I hung around (other than taking Chester for a walk) and collected her 90 minutes later. Seems that she broke the other one back in the summer! So her 'good' leg is also a right mess, but it's way too late to do anything about it. I took her to the old vets (Dart Vale) back in the summer when she hurt her left front and they just said it was her arthritus....

NOT FUCKING HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is such a stoic little dog (well, biggish as she's a lab) and doesn't make a fuss or cry and other than limping a bit, she never let on. Apparently, the difference this time with the other leg is that the joint she's broken clean off is displaced and needs to go back from whence it came! Special titanium smooth bolts with only thead at the end are being overnighted to join it all back together. The vet today was amazed at her, given the damage how she let him pull it around with objecting and how little 'play' there is, yet when you look at the x-rays, it's a bloody miracle she's not screaming the place down!

Still not sure what to do about Dart Vale, anyone know if there's a proffessional body for vets I could complain to? They deserve a punch in the throat for their lack of care of her while liberating shit loads of cash out of me.

Maybe that bit should be in the 'Main Dealer complaints' thread?

^where is the sad face button, hope she is back on her feet soon

Vets do know how to charge don't they!

And, like you, I'm rarely convinced they get it right.

When my lurcher, Stella, needed a cancer op, ( still not convinced 5 yrs on) they made such a mess of her that there wasn't enough skin left to sew her back together. So they hooked the two sides together, leaving her quite literally banana shaped. Couldn't lie down , couldn't walk straight.

After I had kicked off, vociferously in the middle of their Reception , they 'sorted it' with sutures, just leaving a hole you could put your fist in, with no bandages that could stay on more than 20 mins.

I resorted to duct tape, and personal nursing. It worked.

I expect you can guess what I told them to do with their £2,875 invoice......

Aww that's terrible, poor doggy :(

A swift Google says Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons but (after reading some horrible stories similar to yours and worse) be prepared for them to close ranks and deny everything. Seems like the only thing you can do is, if your vet's are a bunch of idiots, find a new one-

I've got nothing but praise for our vet here, she works long hours for piss poor wages with ancient gear but I reckon she's a genius. On the plus side she's cheap (sometimes free when I fix her gear and her car), which is what you want in a vet if you have 4 dogs and 5 cats.

Trading Standards.

Or...

Are you anywhere near Chester?  Billy at Cavcraft can do you a great deal on kidnap and fire...  :)

A plant spray full of water is good aversion therapy for cats and doesn't do them any harm.

You have my sympathy. Once tried helping a friend change a bulb on a C3 and after several of us had ripped our hands to shreds, we decided it was easier if you removed the engine. We sent him to Halfords so some poor bugger could try and do it. They did to be fair.

It's not that it isn't interesting but I had hopes of having owned a few things by now, I fell in love with this at an auction and still haven't scratched that itch:

Also after Skattrd had one of these for sale a while back;

I've been messing about with Axs for half my life, but I am looking forward to getting stuck into the current one.

Work. Just work.

Yep, then the bastards want you to die before you have a chance to get back any of the dosh you've paid in all yer bloody life, if you hang around too long they leave you helpless on a trolley in a bloody freezing corridor to hurry things up, then they get gongs.

Keep yer powder dry chaps, there has to be payback one day.

Anyone want a bike?

Got a tube yesterday, it is one that allegedly self heals (got goo in it that scabs over any small holes), the brand has mixed reviews but it was the only one in the shop in the right size. Put it on last night, just crammed my flab into my ridiculous cycling gear to go out...
