The grumpy thread

It upsets me that I no longer really feel any emotion when seeing my daughter go to sleep under a general anaesthetic. I think today was the eighth time.

Don't let it upset you. Just because it's become routine that doesn't mean you don't care as much as the first time. My kids are 18 & 21, and I worried when they started crossing the road alone, then when they started driving, then when they started going out clubbing...and so it goes on.

In time, I stopped worrying overly about all these things, because experience tells me they come home in one piece. What you're going through with Little Miss Seth is just the same. The fact you're now more chilled about it is testament to how well you're coping, which will help her cope too.

Hugs to you all.

Thus endeth the sermon ;)

Mot comp switchover

So, I'm still on the old system, the new system is going wrong continually and yesterday as I'd logged a test a message flashed up on the vts.

Dear AE your switchover date is sept 4th, oh well, hopefully they iron out a few more problems by then

Get home, check my email and the email gives 28th August as switchover

So they've got a system that keeps crashing but they want everyone on it

There's going to be trouble ahead

Lost the spare saab key, so we're down to one.

I've had a car with one key before. That got expensive when one key became none key on a long dog walk.

How do i get a new, 3 button fob saab key?

It seems like the more people they switch over the less the system can cope - most of the crashes at the moment seem to be login related, and the emails have started saying

Please try to spread out entering your contingency test results throughout the day as this will help the service’s overall performance.

My top tip for AEs at the moment is to save the contingency forms to your PC the first time you log on. You can only get them while logged on, and you need them to test when it's broken.....

I am having some fun with it though :)

who would have thought that a gubbermunt it computer system doesn't work very well, if at all even after throwing a shed load of money at it!

yeah well I went to do my tax return online early.  Last year I had to get them to send me out a reminder for ID and password, thought I'd forgotten them but no they sent out identical details that then worked.  Kept said details safe and this year, you guessed it, system won't recognise my login ID which is IDENTICAL and hasn't changed at all since last time.  They'll sent the same ID and the same password out they did last year and it'll work perfectly fine, just as it did last time they did it.

Seriously tempted to go back to filing by post, never had these issues with that.  Why do online systems like this have to be such a ball ache?

Yes, this is a very well worn grump, but - today I drove to town and parked at the very top of the multi-storey - four cars on the entire floor. I come back and we're down to one other car, a 3-Series which, obviously, has parked in the space next to me. Get home and find scratches running down the length of the car. FFNNGGGG

To be fair, they normally work well - the tax checker, tax application, driving licence renewal all have been faultless for me.

My local MOT man was using it this week, I peered over his shoulder as I was paying for my garage rental. I could see the confusion in the back of his head which isn't something that's normally possible.

So why, Southeastern, can you not put a fucking ticket machine outside the lobby so that people can purchase to their hearts content at any time of the day or night without having to worry whether one of your fetid, corpulent wankstains of an employee is going to bother to turn up and open up access to the ticket machines before the fucking train comes?

Firstly, little harsh. Wouldn't go so far as to say I'm fetid, musty at worst perhaps but not fetid.

Secondly, the machines aren't outside generally because some cunt would try and break in to it.

Been around town with my CV today, because I really REALLY need to change my job.  Dropped in a few to car rental offices and the like, then had to stop because I ran out.  So I came home and printed some more off.  They've come out red.  I'm running out of ink, and the cartridges for my printer are like solid gold unicorn shit.  I still printed four though, so they'll all find homes in the next few days.

In a related grump, my boss directly called me a liar this morning (incorrectly) then had the cheek to say he thought my choice of word was a bit strong when I said he was seeing malice in my actions that wasn't there.  Well fuck off, either trust me to do the job I'm good at and don't interfere, or assume I'm lying and sack me.  I really don't care any more.

Eddy, in future you can try your local library, they offer printing and photocopying. I have used my local library a few times because as you say, these little pots of ink are like gold bullion.  They have decent printers too  :-)

That's evilbay's doing. Low feedback as a seller = 21 day hold unless the buyer gives you positive feedback before then.

From the 'help' pages:

While you establish your selling track record, buyer payments may be delayed. These funds will generally be available once:

  • It's been 90 days or more since your first successful sale
  • You've had more than 25 sales on eBay.co.uk
  • You've had more than £165 in total sales since your first sale on eBay.co.uk

I'm on 31K feedback, and still get treated like poo. Just in different ways.

This is what I've done......  Refunded the seller in full, which means Paypal don't have any of my money to hold, this means they also have to refund their fee's. I apologised to the buyer and he was ok about it.

So Ebay and Paypal, you can FRO if you think your holding MY money for three weeks, you cheeky bastards. I also withdrew my other items for sale, I will drop them off at the charity shop later!

Mozilla have defaulted to using the HMTL5 player for Youtube in Firefox 40. Should be good, everyone knows that Adobe Flash is a piece of shit and needs to die.

One thing however is that it doesn't fucking work, in true Mozilla not even half arsed any more style. Plays about 10% of videos, if that, the rest just showing a blank box, video with no controls, or one frame and a play button but nowt else.

I've noticed you seem to have recurring problems with Firefox and wonder if it is your OS causing them.

I use Firefox as my default browser (but not for Autoshite) and run YouTube videos almost the entire time I am online, never have it crash and videos are playing perfectly - this is on any of three machines, I use whichever is nearest and most convenient.

I done a terrible terrible thing today. I needed to change lanes at some traffic lights, not much traffic around. Anyway this is the WORST thing....

Changing lanes meant inconveniencing a white 1 series driver!!! They had to wait up to 5 seconds to allow me to swap lanes!!!

FFS why are the people that drive these utter bellends? Making it as difficult as possible for me to change lanes.

Big apology to that driver, I hope you gain back the important 3 or 4 seconds you lost off your VERY IMPORTANT BUSY Saturday.

They do seem to be getting a bit of a rep, don't they? I'm finding that too

all BMW's, and most aldi's too, are driven by very important bell end wankers, so how very dare you cause one to slow down!!

Interesting, I use Ubuntu 14.04 on both desktop and laptop and Youtube makes it bomb out on the desktop regularly. The laptop isn't so bad, but plays maybe 10% of videos now and it's getting less. I had just assumed it was hopeless on this version of Ubuntu.

I've taken it off my work computer, it didn't used to crash but I got sick of it choosing the most annoying moments to update itself, takes ages too.

I'm sorry I did it again....

I got bored and went on to retro rides. It's nothing but a mutual wankfest. No matter what the car, what's been done or going to be done to it every single one of the posts all love it* or some such guff.

Does my tree. I'm that sad that I've even thought of just saying what I want (I k ow they're not into that) even if it is "your cars shit" but I don't want my username to lead back here. I'm far too lazy to sign up again with a different one

Strange, I'm using Ubuntu (15.4 currently) on one machine and Linux Mint 17.2 on the other two.

Never had a problem.
