The grumpy thread

Ah, but the current rear are VERY very perished, has been on the back of my mind for a few weeks. Current fronts have tread, but are both no name part worns so I think they've gone hard. Will order 2 more next month, and hopefully find my spare wheel bolts so I can re-tap and fix the chewed up threads and just leave the whole car with the tyre place as I need to keep the wheels now.

Also hoping that new rubber will stop the annoying in-line-with-speed clicking sound that comes from the drivers side front corner above 40mph

Thats what i mean!

Get shot of the rear and fit new. You know how the front handles on currents-leave that til you get the 2nd set of new ones.

That way the front end grip/reaction will not alter, the rear will improve-means the car will react as you're used to:)

Getting a NIP for speeding in Cramlington last month (39 mph in a 30 limit that up to recently was a 40 limit). Great. That will be £100 and three points then. Hey Ho.

Then on the same day reading in the local paper that some bloke had deliberately crushed two guinea pigs almost to death then thrown them out of a window (where they died of the injuries) in a domestic argument.

Said bloke also smashed up some of his girlfriends property because 'she was leaving him'.

He had to pay £50 compensation.

Soooo..... Drift over speed limit = £100

Cause pain, suffering and death to innocent animals whilst terrorising a young girl and a woman = £50.

"Blackpool magistrates ordered him to pay £50 compensation to the youngster so she can buy two replacement guinea pigs."

WTF? As if buying two more guinea pigs makes it ok...

Made me proper grumpy.

Is that near Cramlington High School - sorry - Learning Village? If so, those dual carriageways are pointless. Never seen a camera van on them before though. NCC are utterly obsessed with speed, surprised they haven't chucked a few full width speed humps on it.

Was whinging on Facebook about the timing of the lights on John Dobson street in Newcastle, you get stuck at something like 5 sets of lights on a road about half a mile long because they're timed to go amber when you hit them. Newcastle Council have a solution to the problem though, the road is going to be closed to everything except taxis, buses, cyclists and pedestrians. FFS! I can't even think of an alternative route to go due to bus lanes. There's nowt there of interest for pedestrians and they're well catered for by crossings (which they ignore and walk out in front of you regardless of traffic light colour) and cyclists can use the pointless bus lanes.

Usual "there's a traffic problem, let's solve it by closing roads and putting in bus and cycle lanes!" solution*.

The alternative is to use the central motorway, but you have to join it going uphill on a sharp right hand turn and join the carriageway on your LEFT with people trying to come off the same slip road at 50-70 MPH, deeply unpleasant.

Sat here listening to the wind which is blowing at about 150mph.

I've just ridden nearly 14 miles home in that. I feel like I've done several full laps of T de F.

Yep. Dudley Lane so quite close.

The bastard home button on my iPhone's broken, only had it 4 months. Does anyone know what Apple are like to deal with for this - didn't buy the warranty so I might have to try spewing Sale of Goods Act at them. Bought the phone from them new with cash on Boxing Day.

Apple are generally pretty good in my experience, have found it much quicker to go to the apple shop than fuck abt with O2 in the past, think there's a 12 month manufacturers warranty too

They're usually alright if there's no physical damage and the water sensors inside aren't tripped. If you're planning in popping into one of their shops, you can ring up and make an appointment beforehand.

I wasn't up to battling the wind and rain on the bike today so used the 2cv. Almost as difficult!

Just been out in it again, fook me it looks like downtown Beirut out there! So much rubbish blowing around (bin day tomorrow) and fences down etc. Dogs ears were blowing around so much I thought he was going to take off! :)

Just spent a lovely two hours trying to get to work. In the end, I gave up and came home again.

Anyone considering going anywhere near the Dartford Crossing - don't.

Traffic is backed up for miles around due to emergency repairs on the bridge.

Cost me a night's money.

The V70 behaved itself impeccably though, temp gauge stayed bang in the middle.

Painting the new house walls has resulted in paint bubbling. Not to worry Ronseal problem wall base coat will fix it.

Will it fuck. Two hours painting and it has bubbled again. Arsebiscuits

Sympathies Moog. For some reason one bedroom in our house turned the paint to cheese, whatever we painted it with.

Wallpapered the f***** eventually.

Buy a replacement on Amazon. It takes thirty minutes to fit. I cracked my screen so many times I was an expert at changing it.

Or just go through warranty if it's new. They usually give you a new phone there and then.

Sounds good, thanks for the advice all. Had a read through the warranty (hidden in Apple's website!) and it basically says I'm covered for things like this, and they'll repair, replace or refund. It seems like the likely outcome is replacement as I've heard that from a couple people now - hope so.

Ha, I didn't think that one through!

Re iPhone - as a temporary measure you can get an on-screen "Home" button via the settings - accessibility menu.

Yep, I was stuck in that as well. 1hr 45 mins to get from the A127 to the bridge because they had two lanes closed on the bridge (although typically, no work was being carried out when I finally drove past).

And yes, the Victor also behaved impeccably!

It seems no offers and no delivery must actually mean 'will you bring it half way to Yorkshire' '£175 tonight' and 'swap for my telly'

Also: just quoted someone £20 to do a ball acher of a job, and they asked if I'd do it for £15 as they didn't want to walk to the cashpoint to get the extra fiver. Un-effing-believable.

Posted

I reckon I'm probably the only one who can do it in the time frame wanted, so hopefully they'll get back to me when they'll promptly be told to FRO.

Addition: I hate when my shift bus is allocated to a hired in driver. This has happened over the weekend because I was in Liverpool, and again today because I have the gaffer's coach. He did a shift on Saturday, a shift on Sunday and broke down two hours into today's shift. The bus has just been towed back to base as it no longer has any friction material left on the clutch, which was absolutely spot on when I parked it up on Thursday afternoon.

Should be entertaining trying to get a clutch kit out of Volvo for an '88 Mk2 B10M in the morning

That'll be pretty fucked then

Wild bird smugglers cruelty:

If they do survive, the mental scars will stay with these birds for life. These are intelligent creatures with the intellect of a small child.

I know what I would do to the smugglers given half a chance.
