I've been quite unwell recently, nothing serious just wearysome.

Any way my mum decided to clean my house for me while i was at work ( i rent it off her ) as a surprise.

Cue me coming home to find nothing where i have left it, and my middle aged mother informing me "i've even organised your porn!"

I nearly died of shame, damn my catholic upbringing.

How did she organise it? Using the Gooey Decimal System?

Charity bags.

EVERY BLOODY DAY I get at least two of these shoved through my door, mostly from charities I've never heard of. Went away on holiday for a fortnight a few weeks ago and had to wade through the sea of them in my hall when I got back.

A good idea which is now way oversubscribed and just wasteful.

At least you don't need to buy bin bags any more.

So very true, if I filled up all the various charity bags that came through the door I'd have no possessions left now - nobody has that much stuff to give away! On the plus side they do make good bin liners.

Ha my company has just won the business of doing these bags for a major 'charity'. Going out via Royal Mail door to door, the costs are eye watering!

Still, more free bin bags!

Posted

Most of those bags are for made-up charities anyway and are borderline scams. Just bin em.

Don't most of them have holes in so the kiddywinks can't choke?

Weighing in clothes.

After seeing several places advertising for 'scrap' clothes, fabric etc, I tried to take some stuff to weigh in.

It was mostly in poor condition, old curtains, clothes that were too rough to even donate to charity.

2 places turned my scrap fabric down. On the basis that they sell them on and the clothes were not up to their required standards.

What the actual tits do they expect for 50p a kilo? Unworn designer gear? Can you imagine taking a car to the bridge and being turned down because it's not up to the required standard?

Posted

I read elsewhere online that these places buy your old cloth and bulk ship it to Africa where they sell it at a jillion percent markup to the locals. Its still cheap....ish by local standards compared to buying new gear, but the cloth "recyclers" are purely in it for the profits, which are apparently very large indeed.

Helping others....yeah I can see that, but I dont want to help some middlemen make big money in the process. Id rather just tear up old clothes and use them as garage rags.

While in Romania I saw various market stalls where they sold clothes straight from charity bags, predominantly German, though.

Posted

Yep. Czech Republic is full of shops proclaiming that they sell British second hand clothes. A large number of which are from fake charity bags.

Also, that fucking pony bullshit makes me feel ashamed to be part of the human race.

Now you know how we feel.

In 1990 I was working in a student residence that ran as a sort of budget hotel in the summer. We played host to a football coaching course that involved most of the Scotland team, including Andy Roxburgh. It was all pre-arranged and ran during the second round of the World Cup, they never had any intention of even trying to make it to the second round.
