Work. In at 6.30 this morning, jumping from one fire to the other. Shit going wrong, things promised by others that's impossible to deliver. Way to stressfull I think I need to go solo or look for something else very as it's not having a good affect on me!

Our phone line has gone down. This is frustrating in the extreme! Now my only internet is via a smartphone with not very much signal, or by going down to the local hotel (where I am at the moment). It should be fixed by Monday apparently. That's really helpful.

Ran brake cleaner over a dyson motor as I normally do and the fucker seized solid! Had to spend £16 on a new one so thats a chunk of profit from that machine gone. The old motor will get torn apart to work out why it seized, then a stern talking to from a hammer if it cant be fixed.

Makes mental note that a new Dyson motor is only £16.   :)

We are still using a DCO4 that I got from the tip for £5 about 8/9 years ago. So many got chucked just because the power lead had a broken wire. (but you know that already :) )

I feel your pain.

My recent internet problems that 'will be fixed by Monday' turned out to be a two month saga of phone calls to Sky* and visits from BT. The alleged faulty phone line turned out eventually to be a borked router. Though Sky* tried every means possible before reluctantly sending a new one.

Still 'borrowing' internet from housemate as buying a Wifi dongle isn't as easy as visiting a shop and buying one, it seems all bloody cloak and dagger stuff around here. The Transport manager is hopefully going to try and sort me one out by the end of the week.

I have no Internet at the moment as we had a power surge on Saturday night and it blew my white BT Openreach box up (I've now ordered a surge protector), so I've been using my phone since which is rubbish.

A man from BT is coming tomorrow to fix it fingers crossed.

Right, MOT 'results' for my 306 have come to £362.50. It's madness spending that on a pretty horrible looking old car, especially when you consider that it still needs other things doing to it. I love it, however, and the economy makes it worthwhile to me.

My poor little sis is struggling with her young family and her runabout car has been weighed off leaving them in a shit situation so I'm going to give her my Corsa I think to knock about in, and sadly I'm going to have to sell my Cavalier.

Posted

It seems a lot but any car you replaced it with for that money would be pretty shit.

Some twat on ebay has bought one of my VW T5 pool balls that I spent ages working out how to do, and is now banging out copies at a quid less. (modern vw gear knobs are designed to make them a git to change, kind of anti scene)

All kinds of stuff: brakes, welding, brake lines (or something like that) and some ball jointy things. It's worth it (to me) because it's so cheap to run it's already paid for itself really.

£300 is nowt to put something through an MoT nowadays!

Billy, the 306 is a known quantity. What could you get for 300 sheets that isn't just a collection of someone else's problems?

Buy about 20 of them, or more, using separate accounts (maybe the AS massive could help with that) and neg him for every single one, pointing out on each one that "there's another seller who does them 10 times better for only a quid extra".

Then go round his house with a bag of them and rearrange his face with it.

Son says that the drivers front window on the Pintara has been smashed yet again.

Hes' taped it up (forlorn attempt to keep the weather out)  and had hoped to get it sorted before I get back to the UK.

He was somewhat surprised that no one knew what a Nissan Pintara was -or could offer any solutions at all.  Even Pilkingtons- couldn't offer a compromise.

Another lil old issue for me to sort out. Think I might bulk order them as someone clearly has it in for that car.

Is the Pintara basically an R31 Skyline/C32 Laurel?

I recently moved out of my house due to endless DIY driving me around the mutha flipping twist. Moved to some rented digs as a lodger. Ah, no more DIY!!! Except the new house has a mega shit hot water supply in the kitchen making it very difficult to do the washing up! Thus spent much of yesterday evening lying under a kitchen sink (that’s not even mine) plumbing in a new water heater. Brilliant.

Hi Ed

1992 U12.  A U11 window nearly fits- good enough short term.

Posted

Ah, you've got the later one. You're doing well finding a U11 window these days! I think I've only ever seen one Pintara here and that was some years ago. It was a bronze R31 based version which I saw in Boscombe. Never saw it again and I presume it's dead by now.

Car came from Wuz, probably a couple of years back now.

Last window came from Will, but he's out. There's nothing similar in northern Europe - now trying to persuade several companies to ship from Oz.  Not holding out a lot of hope.

Last time I made up a Perspex nasty -made the mistake of going too thin. I think I'll have to measure the width of the passenger one, remove & copy on a similar width sheet of Perspex. Its a tricky balance -  too thick for the runners, too thin (sucked out at speed)

Its an anonymous old thing, but it suits me. Its a very easy auto for me to use, with comfortable seats, enough power & a good auto box, but no unnecessary fripperies. Typically Japanese it can sit for weeks and fire up 1st turn, and its bland enough never to be noticed.

I'm loathe to bin it (despite it being near valueless).  Just hate the mindless vandalism

Nige, have you tried Uroglass in Bromsgrove?

Posted

I've got heaps of Datsun glass but I don't think I have anything that new. It's probably unlikely, but if you can provide some dimensions I can have a look and see if I have anything that would fit.

Ok -thanks Ed. I hope to be back in a few days, I'll measure then

If the radio has an M at the start of its serial number I think they're available online if you know the right website to go to.

EDIT: this seems to be the software for the Ford radio decoder. http://www.freefordradiocode.co.uk/fordm.html

Got around to sorting this: Serial number began with an M, website download worked perfectly and I now have a working cassette/ radio again.

Billy, keep in mind we have one here for breaking if you need owt.

PS, On Billy's 306, I know you'll want it right eventually, but if you can't get the bits in time for the test, pull rear seats and belts out... Not fitted = Not tested.

Somehow, while moving a car 69 meters, I have lost my best 1/2in ratchet spanner. I tightened a couple of bolts, got in the car, moved it 69m, noticed I didn't have the spanner before I even got out of the car. But where has it gone?

I spent half an hour pulling up the carpets, moving the seats about, even walking back to where the car was parked twice. I might just have to come to terms with the new gap in my only complete spanner set :(
