No one likes being overtaken by a K11 Micra. FACT.

Flat out Minors piss them off too, especially cunts in Audis who are still picking their nose/dreaming world domination when the lights change.   Driving slow cars means I am always checking the lights the other way, not poddling with a sat-nav....

Posted

I also found a general dislike among the VAG-driving population of being overtaken by a battered blue Rover 200 with a silver bonnet.  Fortunately the old crate had enough grunt that the frequent desperate attempts to stop me getting past were generally futile.

I really must get the old girl booked into a garage to try and find out where all the horses went.

Been outbid on a copy of Jalopy on eBay cos I was busy getting my wallet raped in Toys R Us and didn't have a chance to check my phone for emails.

Thought I'd see why one of the numberplate lights wasn't working - that's because it was cracked and the other one broke when I took it out.

The ax just doesn't want to sell, I have had a semi-promising offer for the engine alone, and it's mighty tempting just to part the sodding thing out.

Dropped my phone earlier, spidered the counting screen. Screens not replacable, its not insured and its not in my name so had to tell the old man so he could register it for some sort of gadget cover, wait a month then claim.

HTC one.

Take it to an Asian backstreet shop in a dodgy area of town. They will probably be able to replace it. Will most likely steal your bank details off it too once it is working but at least you will have your phone back so you can see someone stealing the money out of your account whilst on the move.

That's a one x screen, I've got the one, unibody lump if once sexiness, rated 1 out of 10 from ifixit on teardown ability.

Abd I managed to replace the screen on my galaxy s2, so looked at that option first.

Will chat to some aisian bretheren at work tomorrow and see if they have any ideas though. Currently sellotaped the screen so it doesn't fall out, working well but makes me cry every time I look at it

Auction for the Merc ended without a single bid. Guess no one wants a reliable, practical and comfy car then

MOAR ebay fuckwittery. Sold an item, buyer supplies address with no road name, I questioned it and they replied that there was no road name. So I posted it on Wednesday. Tonight I get a message 'try XXX road, tell them to turn left after the such and such'

Bangs head on table. And repeat.

Oh, and as soon as the auction ended I got a "give you £250 collect on Tuesday" message

Glad it's not just me that happens to. First time I listed my 306 I had three people contact me with stupid offers within minutes of the auction ending.

At least it provides an opportunity to practice different, linguistically interesting variations on the answer no.

I cant add up. I have bought the Visa but dont have any room. Hmmm. Something is going to have to budge.

The GT6 needs to stay as it is part way through a mini resto. It does need to go in the long run too as its expensive to run and surplus to requirements but is work bugger all at the mo but will bring in ££££ with a little work.

The Visa looks good at first glance, is good on fuel and parts are cheap.

The Audi looks amazing, drives like a modern car has been 100% reliable but is very very expensive on fuel and needs a bit of TLC. Parts are pretty pricey and because its like a modern car its a pain to work on.

The Imp is the Imp and stays where it is.

Fucksticks. So it looks like a toss up between the Visa and the Audi.

It looks like I am going to regret this but think I am going to have to offload the Audi in a couple of weeks when I push the Visa into daily service purely on a cost of running basis. The reason I got the Visa was to replace the Audi but the idea was that I would keep it, get the things that are wrong with it sorted and then keep it as a plaything.

I am not sure how I managed this. I do mathamatical shizzle for a living but seem to have difficulty counting up to 4.

Tell me about it my 5 series has been parked outside the bowling club in town for the last 2 months as I've not room for it. I promised myself I would never buy more than what I could fit in my lockup and my drive. Both the 5 series and the XJR are going up for sale this month. Time to move on.

Other road users made me grumpy today... I had gotten pretty used to the tailgating-at-90MPH middle management types when I was commuting to my previous job, but now I have to deal with a completely different kettle of fish :

Cyclists : I'm sure there's loads of sensible, responsible people who commute to work on a bicycle. Unfortunately, the ones I've been encountering are morons who are doing their bit to improve this country's gene pool by not having any lights on, not wearing any hi-viz clothing and carelessly riding in the middle of the road at dusk.

Horse riders : There's also loads of people doing this sensibly, in a manner respectful to others. Unfortunately there are those that don't, like the lady* I came across this morning who ignored a very wide, perfectly flat grass verge and rode her horse literally in the middle of a busy, 50MPH B road. I was really tempted to open my window and hurl a load of abuse at the fat, ugly, smelly beast but I refrained out of respect for the horse.

Dog walkers : What safer way to go dogging* than to take your small, black dog out at dusk, along a narrow, unlit country lane, while wearing black trousers and a black hoodie, with the dog off leash. FFS, a hi-viz vest is only 99p or something, are all those people suicidal ?

Why has Halfords completely stopped selling service parts for cars (thermostats, HT leads, etc)? I found this was good for Sunday car fixing when no-one else is open?

Posted

Dropped the 106 off for a "see what needs doing"  £25 MOT at Halfords cuz it's a short walk from work. Got a call 20 mins later, could I remove my car from their workshop as there is a smog of chip fat fumes emanating from the 106 so they are refusing to do the MOT.

My nephew has fixed my car. The little 3 year old was in the rangie pressing all the buttons and then suddenly the the fuel flap actuator burst into life. What a wee guy.

Irritating, but within their rights. Is the smoke any less with dino ?

Changed the discs and pads on my sister's W169 A Class in the rain. Didn't realise the pad wear warning sensor was not reusable so had to leave the car up in the air and dash to eurocarparts. Great, all sorted. Until then the new one broke while I was fitting it to the pad

Unless it was totally smoking the place out they were just being twats really,  loads of people have a right bee in their bonnet about using veg - the gaffer at work thought I was gonna get banned from driving for it.

That said you weren't doing yourself any favours going to Halfords for an MOT.

THE FRENCH.

After some investigation, I concluded that the blower motor in my Dad's recently bought Clio 3 was dead (we knew something needed sorting before buying the car).

They like to eat resistors, but this ones tests OK. As does the switch.

The blower motor is £230 from Renault, or £110 from Euro Car Parts.

ECP price isn't horrific and It doesn't make sense to buy a used one, when people are after £70+.

I see you. This shouldn't be too hard to change.

Ah...

20131029_123226_zps09b80e4b.jpg?t=138306

After all of that, the cursed thing still needs to be rotated topwise with the middle part updown to somehow fit between the clutch pedal box and a bracket/stud welded to the dash brace bar.

20131029_132906_zpsa3d1470b.jpg?t=138306

All sorted and back together now, without so much as a broken clip or spare fastener.

Even the A/C blows ice cold.

SCORE

This is one of the most awkard interior jobs I have ever done on a car.

Even the way the airbag removes is stupid, imo.
