I used Enterprise once... the guy picking me up was a cock, spent the whole trip trying to buy a Corrado off me I wasn't selling, then some girl manager in the making barged up once I was there asking what the cause of the accident I'd had in my car was?

1. I'd not crash my car it was just knackered and I needed to get to work.

2. if I had crashed MY car then I'd wager it's non of her bleeding business what the reason was.

I wonder if she was on some kind of LOYERS FUR U brown envelope deal ?

Yes, probably. They do accident management and direct billing to insurers. Would probably have been able to quadruple the rental rate and earn a butty for referral to an ambulance chaser.

"I was spreadeagled over the bonnet at a well-known dogging spot when this newby arrived and ploughed into the car...I've got a stiff neck AND have difficulty going to the loo as a result...Oh, the car? McLaren picked it up for repair this morning!"

I'd love to see what she made of something like that!

Nice avatar, M'coli - one of the few reasons I still go on facebook, and that particular one had me rupturing my spleen with laughter. The git hasn't done any of my requests yet, mind.

It's happened yet again, for about the sixth year running: DVLA send out the road tax renewal, budget changes come into effect, and by the time I'm allowed to buy 12 months tax, part way through April, it's a fiver more than they stated in the renewal bumphf. Why does this happen? I can predict it, so why can't DVLA?

Also, is this legal? - they've stated a price in writing, I'm (sort of*) willing to pay that, and yet when I come to pay they insist it's a fiver more. Retailers couldn't get away with this, after all.

Yep. 'Invitation to treat'; Fisher v. Bell, 1961.

Though I may be talking ex recto. BV72 (a real lawyer) will be along presently

it says on the form that cost may rise - dont worry, they have covered their arses well

All airports are shit. I made a decision never to fly again after my last experience.

Bankok airport is nice, it has a garden in it.

It is! Also VERY hot.

Nippa overheated yesterday on the way home! I noticed the gauge higher than normal!

I pulled over and let her cool down a little (it was rush hour traffic), and then blended in with traffic again, before the needle nearly reached the red zone. Knowing these Daihatsu engines have a propensity for doing the head gasket in a lot, I thought that's it. Pulled up again outside a truck stop type place and checked under the bonnet. Noticed new coolant everywhere. I'd forgotten to put the rad cap back on. I used the truck stop to get some water, and it did well all the way home. I got to Halfords which is just round the corner from my house, and as luck would have it, out of the 7 QH caps, one fitted my engine (through trial and error fitting).

Put it back on, drove to work the next morning, and took the cap off for it to vent through the day.

Drove home tonight, in the knowledge it had no air in the system, only to come off on a dual carriageway, and heard a loud banging noise under my car, peering in the rear view mirror to see my new radiator cap bouncing merrily down the road behind me.

I u-turned at the next juntion and double backed, and spotted the cap in the middle of the road. Not wanting to let another one go, I waited for a large space in the traffic and re-retrieved it and put it back on properly. Ha!

Bankok airport is nice...

Not if you want to go to Bangkok. Or most other places in Thailand.

It's way out in the sticks to the east with no practical links to the city, or to the domestic airport to the north-west of town!

(Was it a Corolla 'Limo' with plastic seats, rubber floors and 13 inch steels?)

Yes, there are some (relatively expensive) domestic flights from 'Swampy'.

Taxi from town is ok, though traffic, even on the express tollways is wildly unpredictable. Catching one from airport to town can be a real ball-ache. There's an 'Airport Link' train, but when they built it, starting at each end, they met in the middle with different gauge lines. Or something equally farcical. It's a national embarrassment. Well, the whole airport project was, and is, despite the propaganda.

Why are you saying that? The express train is jolly good.

If I'm still not even able to keep water down by later today then it almost certainly wasn't just something I ate and it's looking like no Bristol Classic Car Show for me tomorrow :(

Suck on ice-cubes, you'll get some hydration that way. It's what Mrs_Duke had to do after she'd had her guts rearranged by a surgeon.

I fear it may be Tayne, as my face is about the same colour as this website at present :|

So after spending this morning taking the diesel injector pump off the 306 I set about replacing the O ring

8662598951_9116b7141f.jpg

There is a large O ring on the distributor head which had gone hard and was leaking.I bought a rebuild kit with all the seals.

After putting it back together I put the pump back on and plumbed it in.Using the primer bulb I discovered another leak so off it came again.

Another hard O ring this time on a plate facing the engine block so it did have to come off.

Now the constant drips have stopped but it's still not right. There is a weep from somewhere and it appears to be the seal around the top of the unit.

There is no way I'm taking the top of a Bosch injector pump off even though I've got the seals for it.

Ever got two thirds of the way into a job and wished you'd never started it ? ...Well I have, today..

Ordered a new hub for the Xantia on Monday, It arrived on Wednesday but I only had time to fit it today. My Xantia is an HDi and has a wider track than other models, hence only a 110 item will fit. I made sure they knew it had to be the right item. When it arrived it was very rusty and had been cut off the donor car. It took ages to get it stripped down ready to fit. Finally got it on the car this evening. What's this? The disc wont fit, neither will the calliper! Yep. WRONG HUB. Its from a 90 or something. The supplier has promised to get it collected and send the right one. Grrrrrrrrr!

Still no sign of that steering wheel I bought A MONTH AGO. Ebay's typically helpful, it says I can't hit the seller with an INR strike 'because this item was purchased on eBay US'. Really? Merseyside's in the States now, is it?!

The stereo in the Rover 75. It's a Sendai job (I think Sendai is Maplins), and when you switch it off a message flashes across the screen saying "See you! Have a nice day!". Am I the only one who gets really pissed off by the modern trend for inanimate objects pretending to be my friend? NO YOU WON'T FUCKING SEE ME, YOU'RE A FUCKING CD PLAYER, YOU DON'T HAVE ANY EYES. TWAT.

My kitchen scale says "HELO" when you turn it on.

Wikipedia says that's the correct spelling in the Welsh or Malay languages.

Baws. I've luckily never known a Bosch VE pump to leak, despite running all kinds of shit through them.

There's no point in shouting at it, it doesn't have any ears either. :D

Great, I sold my Fiesta to buy my new mode of conveyance to it's happy new owner, who has now returned it demanding his money back. Apparently, it started making a funny noise despite me specifically telling him what the noise was (The pushrod engine!). He kicked and screamed and I argued back then gave in and let him leave it behind and take back the money.

He must've ragged the shit out of it, cos' I sold it with 3/4 tank of fuel in it and it's on the red line. No idea what he's done, but I've done a trade off with my cousin who does about 3 miles a year.

The only positive is that I've got a 1.5 vtec Civic to bazz about in, but I'm pissed off cos my new-new car may be off the cards :/

Sounds like the arsehole just found a great way to get free fuel... What an arse.

Stripping the fuel pump down on my Audi 80TDi finally killed it off. So it's not all bad.

Hats off to you, Ben. A lot of other people would have told that bellend to FRO.

I wouldn't mind, but the mileage has only gone up by 150... That's DOUBLE the fuel use I experienced, I reckon he realised it wasn't a bird puller/drag racer and felt a dick turning up in McDonalds with it personally.
