If anything, woul replying not make it more likely the spambot will post again?

Annoyingly, he has the car listed for £1500 - I sold it for £250.

What he lists and what he gets are two different things :) Take solace in the fact it'll linger around like a stale fart at that price.

It's going to get worse. Windows 8, due out in 4 weeks time, does not include Flash support in the native browser - only if you use the legacy one.

Flash is old and shit and doesn't need supporting any more. HTML5 is the future.

Who told you that? I'm using Windows 8, and have been for over a year, pre-beta, beta, milestones and am now using RTM (the retail version). Flash works on IE10 in both the version you launch from the taskbar, and the frameless version from the Metro UI.

EDIT: Just re-read your post, and mine. I get what you mean, some do, some don't work.

How does the numbering of Windows versions work then? We had Windows 3 (and 3.1, and 3.11), then there was 95, 98, ME, XP and Vista, but the successor to Vista was Windows 7 - logically I would have thought it should have been 9, and the latest version should be 10?

Posted

Expecting logic is where you were going wrong. It goes:

  • [*:1tpujmpr]Windows 1
    [*:1tpujmpr]Windows 2
[*:1tpujmpr]Windows 3: Windows 3.1, 3.11 for Workgroups, Windows NT 3 (the DOS and NT based Windows share a version number despite being very different under the skin)
    [*:1tpujmpr]Windows 4: Windows 95, 98, ME (DOS based) and Windows NT 4
[*:1tpujmpr]Windows 5: Windows 2000, XP (all NT now)
    [*:1tpujmpr]Windows 6: Vista, Windows 7 (yes, Win7's version number is 6.1), Windows 8 (6.2)

Posted

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about 2000.

Thanks for the explanation. As you say, logic doesn't seem to come into it. Kind of like the numbering of Ford Transit marks, but the other way around. Or something.

If it's anything like the one I had on a Cargo open the bonnet, look for a sort of round shaped 'box' with a BFO black cable running into, it then yank said cable out.

*Disclaimer: if that knackers everything else up instead don't blame me

Every time the popular press report on motoring matters, they fuck it up.

I notice that most times there's something on the news that I know a bit about, so I imagine it'll be the same with every subject.

According to Microsoft, they operate a "whitelist" to help large firms migrate to HTML5. They'll be allowed to use Flash in the IE10 App if they ask nicely, for a set amount of time. Everyone can use Flash in Desktop IE10. So yeah, I think I got halfway through writing what I was meaning to write, and then forgot to finish the sentence :D

My demo to people I'm training on W8 support has been to load a Youtube video in the IE10 App - black screen. Click "view on desktop", it loads the same page and plays fine. Recently thought it sometimes works on the App - I think Youtube might be defaulting Win8 users to the HTML5 version.

I'm not actually doing bad converting people from "Yuck, this is horrible" to "Actually, I can see the point...." within a day. I'm doing technical support and retail training on it.

Found some hitherto hidden grot in the offside front inner wing of the Stagea today, which I'm not happy about. It was hidden behind some sticky rubber shit which was holding some wiring in place - I noticed a bit of a brown stain round the edge, so pulled it off and it looked rather nasty underneath. Ten minutes with a large screwdriver later and there was a 2" by 1" hole in the inner wing. It's close to the strut mount so will definitely need welding up before the car's next MoT in November. Arse.

Last use of Gumtree was complete failure. Mark up new car for sale 100 quid more than I'd want (600).

Fella views the car, tries to wing me down with questions of how much would you sell with 12 months MOT, eventually said I'd sell as is (1 week MOT and 7 months tax) for 500. Cue email:

hi its billy who viewed the car the other day if you can give me your best price maybe we can deal plus what price with 12months m.o.t price must be around 400 mark

No. No it must not be around 400 mate.

I might lose my job because I've lost my reliable transport there and back. I can only keep it if I take a 30 minute bus ride with a 30 minute walk each way each day and if I move on to the less practical Afters shift of 1pm to 10pm. If I lose my job, I can't afford to repair the Princess as the money I'd be borrowing for a couple of weeks while my wages catch up couldn't be paid back without the job.

Not really sure what to do about this at the moment, aside from looking for another job and falling back on the self employment again. The car is a big motivation for staying on, but I can't rely on the bus to get me to work on time every day, especially Sundays. There are no car shares or agencies schemes to help me get to and from work on time either, and being unable to use my own car means I'm likely pretty shafted with this one.

WHY is every Honda Sky that isnt a fucking basket case so far from FY3 Land?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-SKY-MOP ... 481wt_1064

This looks ace, right price etc etc, but is about a 2 day ride away at 29.49999mph.

Oh sure I could nip to Braithwaites and try and hire a trailer but that defeats the object of a shite 0cc bike trip doesnt it. I'll keep my fingers crossied its still for sale in 3 weeks when I have a week of leave booked and can set off on an ePic expodiction.

Gumtree-yeah, I should have known really.

Lost count how many people want to buy my Almera (probably 30 at least) and the majority are 'definately interested' and will 'definately have it. Except no-one has actually bothered to turn up, none of the three who promised a deposit by Paypal have got back to me and I've had a few asking if it's still for sale then not getting back to me when I said it was.

Why do people do that? Do they just sit there and think 'Oh, there's a car I'm after, I think I'll e-mail the seller, see if it's still for sale and hopefully it won't be?

It's just thick people who don't think things through and don't have the capacity to control their child-like impulses. The world is full of them.

Most of them like to click the 'commit to buy' button on ebay at any opportunity.

That isn't too far away from me, but do you really want a moped unless it's for a half mile trip around town.

How about a Honda C90 cub or something.

Or a Vauxhall Corsa diesel. How about a Vauxhall Corsa diesel?

Turns out I'm now unemployed (or rather, self-employed on paper) but it's not entirely a bad thing. The agency have said that once I've got some wheels again I should give them a call and they'll set me back on again, which is unusual as normally if you leave/are fired from the place I was working at they don't let you back. Because of my circumstances, they've bothered to make an exception, which is nice.

So... plan is still to view Princess 2 on Tuesday, wait for report from assessor and repair Princess 1 with help from Bank of Mum & Dad and then get myself back to the old place of work, commuting in Princess, and paying back the BoMnD loan. Should take a few weeks, but at least it's a plan and I have a bit of a fall back in the meantime.

I think I'd rather scoop my own eyeballs out with grapefruit spoons than have to drive a Corsa again (no offence, Billy). If I buy another car (apart from Princess 2) I can't sort out Princess 1, my priorities make sense to me, even if they don't make sense to anyone else.

You should just leave the plate on for the lucky* new owner. I know for a fact he won't mind.

That's three deposits not received for the Nissan now, it might just as well get partially stripped and fragged I think.

My grump: Sold my Volvo wheels on fleabay, to a bloke in Portugal, and it's turning into a massive ballache.

I've had to package each one individually, and he can't seem to grasp the fact that they are ROUND, therefore the height and width will be the same.....

At least he's paid for them i suppose....

Now, the bloke whose bought the Capri wheels.....has been conspicuous by his absence.....twat.

Getting up at 5.30 tomorrow morning to go to the immigration office in the next town where I will probably be told 'all slots are full today, come back tomorrow'. This could well occur indefinitely. If anyone has read Kafka's 'The Trial' that should give you some idea of the Czech immigration process.
