The grumpy thread

Away in the camper, I've had a mission of a day and done fifty miles on the mountain bike. I'm fucking starving!

Turned up an isolated country pub (no other source of food for ten miles in either direction) at 4pm:

"sorry, not serving food while 5"

Fair enough, I said. I'll hang about til 5 because I've not eaten since 7:30am.

Bought a pint and sat in the corner of the totally deserted pub..

5pm rolls round, I wander up to the bar to order the massive pile of chips and beef that I've been staring at on the menu..

Same woman I spoke to earlier :

"have you got a booking?"

No...

"we're fully booked tonight, sorry"

Usual British hospitality there.

Well this happened today - I was told by the umbrella company that actually pay me to stop work immediately and await further instruction.

Likely going to lose 6 weeks pay minimum but there’s a chance of restarting with another agency fairly quickly.

Not sure if this is a grump or a grin, time will tell?

Relatively minor grump... I bought a Pentax K50 online from CEX for video use, since DSLRs that do video are getting to be more readily available than 1080p camcorders (sort of, long story) and I already have an older Pentax that doesn't do video so already have a stock of lenses. The CEX listing said it features a mic jack, which is great because it means I don't have to use an external recorder to use either the wireless lav mics or the shoe mounted shotgun mic.

After it had already been dispatched I was double checking some specs on the official website... It turns out in fact it only has a built in mic! Grr.

It's not the end of the world, since I have a digital recorder with a mic jack that should do the job, but I absolutely hate manually syncing mic audio!!

On the plus side, I can use a little adapter ring to use my old m42 mount lenses with no degradation in optical quality. I already have one, but I've lost the tool to remove it from the camera body and it's currently mounted in a Chinon film SLR. I never really needed the tool because I didn't have any film era K mount lenses.

There I was, all happy last night, so much so I nearly posted on the Happy Thread:
SLK: new steering rod/mecanno type contraption fitted, steering damper fitted, four ball joints split with minimal effort. Result.
ATF drained, kit arrives Thursday arrived just now.

Hang on, ATF only - no filter or seal?
Seems they're on a different delivery note and will be here on Monday. That's useful.

[edit] Update - after some to and fro I've told them to shove it and ordered a Febi part from CarPartsinMotion on Royal Mail 24 (so tomorrow or Saturday).
Methinks the 'kit' was being dropshipped.

Phone updated to Android 16 overnight.

This has resulted in Google Photos duplicating my entire library for reasons only known to the idiots who made it.

Of course one of the tools which vanished long ago (around the time they dropped the Picasa name) was a tool specifically to hunt out duplicates.

Great!

That's a problem for future me, I've not had nearly enough coffee to deal with this level of argument with technology yet.

I'm running 15, version 7.0. I hate it.

On a similar note whichever dipstick decided to recently change Google's SMS app to make it significantly harder to send texts with a specific SIM can get to fuck.

Ah, yes.  This has of course resulted in me going from having used about 70% of my cloud storage to being totally full.  Which also means I now can't send email.  Great.  Wonderful.  Perfect.

BBC news at 1 includes “the news where you are” ( presumably regional news is too hard to understand), which in my case is BBC Scotland. Half the stories just repeated because Scotland is mentioned (airport charges, The Open  etc. Ditto the weather.

Complete waste of resources by the BBC who constantly moan about lack of money and wanting to increase the TV Tax. They can FRO.

I’ve a few on the phone- google maps, waze, tomtom and calimoto ( primarily a biker oriented one for fun routes).  The car has tomtom built in, but it’s traffic knowledge isn’t very quick.

I use Waze for preference

They're quite good at this online too. I'll get a notification for a road closure, or a storm warning, and when you look at it, it's from three days ago.

If I actually go onto the BBC website these days, it's to look at the weather, or the articles attached to the bottom of the page from local papers etc, at least they're usually reasonably up to date

I've had really mixed results with them. Last year I manked on about them here on AS, then they got better - they do dropship so I guess they are reliant a bit on third parties?
Then, in May this year, they got me a condenser here for the CLK overnight Friday/Saturday (we were off to France on the Sunday) so they were back in the good books.
(They've not yet marked this Febi part as tracking so I guess we'll see what happens on this fuckabout)

The one thing I have learned of late is that always to use the AmEx card and just claim direct from them - PayPal and eBay both f*ck about - AmEx just refund immediately (so long as you upload all the evidence)  and then wait for/handle the squabbling from eBay.

Episode 1 season 1 if I remember correctly.

Unfortunately, a lack of nudity in the rest.

Sounds like that's well tattooed in your memory ;-)

Think I'll skip it - HeartBeat was never really my cup of tea tbh. Maybe if I start I'll not be able to stop............

It could have been better if had more nudity and sex scenes. Greengrass doing an old farmer's widow would have given much higher viewership numbers as an example.

Chuck in Worzel Gummidge for a threesome scene and it'd be pulling in the prizes (what an image to have in your mind's eye. Put you off sex forever)

With AI, this is probably possible to create. Unfortunately I can't do AI but if I ever can I will pm you the video.

So do I, but occasionally it has a nervous breakdown and can’t find any routes. I have Paddington as the voice at the moment.

I've taken Master Grogee to 'kart school'. That's not the reason I'm grumpy...

It's the full kit wankers that turn up with their race suit and Sparco helmet! FFS mate if you were that good you wouldn't be at karting school barging the beginners out of the way.

Also: backwards baseball cap dad. Seriously?
